Easy DIY mousetrap is very effective
Просмотров 1995 лет назад
I show how I built a simple mousetrap with a bucket, dowel and scrap wood. The trap I make in the video is for a friend and they caught their mouse on the first night. This type of trap can be very effective to catch multiple mice. Fill the bucket 1/2 full with water to catch dead mice, or leave it dry to catch live mice. Thanks for watching! -instructodad

    Pumice sticks, and they do have them on a stick, don't work at all. They just break apart and clean nothing.

    That is a very nice little bracelet and looks quite simple,to make… I have hole punches so no need to use the drill… but I commend you on your creative thinking! When I first saw the drill I thought, "oh boy… drilling holes in leather will make it twist up around the drill bit." Then you show the wood blocks and I was like, "ok now he's cooking with gas!" :) I think I will try to make one of these out of some scrap leather I have….not sure I have a piece long enough to do exactly how you made it, but I bet I have enough to make two separate strips though! :)

    Instructodad, you must have been in the military or a government employee at some time. You can turn a 30 second instruction video into a 4 minute instruction video with 90% unneccessary blathering to fill in space. The military can jam pack 4 hours of training into a week long seminar and by the time the class you forget what it was all about.

      If you look online or in stores, it's called a 'rib rack'. Most stores that sell BBQ grills (at least in the states) will have them. I probably got mine at Walmart or Lowes. I had to cut it to size to fit my smaller smoker.

    Most helpful video I've seen. I'm wondering what he means when he says he adds 'fresh wood' before putting on the Mesquite. Does he mean more lump wood. I think that's it. Thanks anyway mucker!

    • @instructodad
      @instructodad 4 года назад

      “Fresh” is probably the wrong word 😄 even the mesquite is dried (not fresh). As you noted, I added lump charcoal to increase the burn time and also some mesquite to increase the flavor.

      @@instructodad Thanks so much. We're in rainy Belfast, Northern Ireland and we've just bought a wee kettle smoker to try out. We've lump wood, briquettes, Weber applewood and beef smoking blend. We're gonna try a full chicken. So do you recommend briquettes with a few applewood bits?

    • @instructodad
      @instructodad 4 года назад

      Give it a go and see what you think :) be careful with chicken- it needs to heat up quickly so as not to grow bacteria. The general guideline is to get the chicken temp up over 60 degrees Celsius as quick as possible- if you don’t get an internal chicken temp there in a couple hours, maybe move it to the oven to finish. You’ll have good smoke flavor after a couple hours anyways. A temperature of about 105 degrees Celsius would probably be a good temp to try and hold in your smoker. “Low and slow” for smoking but not too low for chicken! :)

    • @instructodad
      @instructodad 4 года назад

      I used scrap wood from a shipping crate, so it’s possible it was a 2x4 in a previous life- in my build it is about .75inches by 2 inches in cross-sectional dimension

    What screws did you used ?

    • @instructodad
      @instructodad 4 года назад

      Phillips head :) Glue is my primary holding mechanism and screws are the clamps. I used drywall screws and some longer construction screws where needed. My recommendation would be to look for construction grade or better screws- I’m making that switch myself on future builds.

    Awesome idea man 👍👍👍 how is the temp control on that thing?

    • @instructodad
      @instructodad 4 года назад

      On a summer day with little wind it can hold a temp like 225 F for 2-3 hours. Hotter temps burns the fuel faster, but you can still maintain a fairly even temp before needing to remove ash or add fuel to the fire. The biggest problem is when there is wind (especially on cold days) it’s hard to keep the temp steady and it requires more constant attention adjusting airflow. I have seen others make insulating blanket wraps and wind breaks that would eliminate those problems.

    Lump charcoal burns pretty hot and fast, great for grilling, not so much for smoking. Briquettes are usually better suited for a smoker.

    • @instructodad
      @instructodad 5 лет назад

      I believe if you restrict the oxygen, you can reduce the speed of the burn. I prefer lump charcoal because there are no extra chemicals or binders- just wood.

    How do you remove the accumulated pumice “sand” that sets in the toilet tank after multiple cleanings? I have been using pumice stones for years due to stains from sitting well water (even though I have a whole house water filter system), and have yet to figure out a good way to remove the sediment. Thanks in advance for any recommendations! Jill

    • @instructodad
      @instructodad 5 лет назад

      If you can get the hose to the sediment, a 'shop-vac' type vacuum which is rated for water and debris may work.

    OK, DON'T SCRATCH PORCELAIN! (Just Like the Dentist will seal your teeth's "Enamel" after a cleaning) The Gloss and Glaze are completely gone and your basically sanding clean the sealed porcelain. (My tub and toilet are from 1976) The Luster won't come back, But the stains will shortly after cleaning. unfortunately you and I need new porcelain.😧

    • @instructodad
      @instructodad 7 лет назад

      Hi Tamara, the hitch I used actually came in two parts: the hitch part you see when you wear it and then what looks like a short bolt that screws in the bottom of the hitch. The leather gets sandwiched between the two pieces. If you watch at about 5:30, I'm putting the bolt portion of the hitch in and then screw the hitch on to secure the leather loop. Hopefully that helps! If you look close on my website you can see the bolt end of the hitch in the materials pic instructodad.wordpress.com/2016/08/01/leather-bracelet-brass-ring-and-hitch/
