I’m a naval architect in Canada. We have been using a similar method to dry dock VICTORIA class submarines in BC for over 15 years where we transfer the submarine directly from the land to the floating dry dock. And Damien shipyards in the Netherlands launches new builds this way as well. Ergo it’s a little odd for Austal in the USA to claim this type of launching is unique to them.

Next step, move the dry dock in front of the assembly hall, and skip the barge.

I thought that production of the LCS class had already come to an end, so this was interesting to see. I served on Nimitz class carriers back in the day, so I know how the Newport News Shipyard conducted such operations, making this process quite unique.

Great presentation! This some 5 years and some 230.5 million dollars later for a ship that has had more problems and recalls than a Tesla. Also just like Tesla this is high tech and only the manufacturer can repair certain parts, unlike Tesla though the manufacturer doesn't have garages out at sea and in war zones. Guess they need to invest in more PR videos like this.
