I made a music box "Thingy" 20 times LARGER!
I take a device commonly used in music boxes that creates the melodies and scale it up 20 times. I didn't realize the issues I would encounter because of physics.

In this video, I really need to see what I have with the 1971 Pinto I recently purchased so I remove the left over stuff from the rodents, seats, rotten wet carpet, and headliner. I just rebuilt mine again the last thing I took apart was the head all four valve seals had come off. If you clean and use the old filter the o-ring in the oil filter should be replaced the filter should fit snug on the nipple, I will get back with the size. The valve seals will come off I glued them on with super glue. I use the same kit you use and have had the seals to come off. I would like to know are they supposed to be that easy to push on? Why because it’s not normal they fit so easy, I don’t think so. The last kit I got from Fayetteville NC the timing belt was a bad fit a real bad fit. I would like to know where you got the info the chrome faced piston ring goes on the middle grove?. Just curious.  To finish up I have never seen valve seals push on that easy are the oil scraper ring be chrome faced.

    You should definitely finish this! You could potentially replace the tone bars with keys from a xylophone, or perhaps fabricate your own from aluminum or steel bar stock. The part that spins to regulate the speed is known as the Governor (it 'governs' the speed of the mechanism). It might require some trial and error, but I think you could get your current iteration to function properly.

    For the tone board, you can used a sheet of metal and regulars the actual note by adding weight to the tip (what you used the miter saw for) or reinforcing a strip near the base.

    Maybe maple for the tone board and probably much thinner. The regulator could in fact be used at scale with modification. Possibly a simple adjustable drag brake. The spring was my only initial thought of worry, scaled it would be highly difficult and dangerous. Not to mention difficult to obtain a flat coil spring that could preload enough energy and power to move the mass of the drum. The project as a whole is there, I mean close though, would love to see you revisit this after awhile. Great start!

    • @NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS
      @NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS 11 дней назад

      Hi thanks for watching and the comments. I learned a lot of things building this project. The spring was a concern for me and I knew the difficulty of building or sourcing a spring like that. One idea I had for the spring was to tie the drum shaft to a much smaller drum, say 4 inches in diameter. I would wrap around that drum with something like a seatbelt strap. I would then use two large extension springs that would pull the strap. This would also require a one-way coupling between the two drums. The coupling would allow you to wind the thing up as you wouldn't be able to spin everything backwards otherwise. I think you may have already but if not please consider Liking and Subscribing. I would really appreciate it.

    Well done video. I have a 2000 and just replaced the conventional rad & thermostat, so on mine it's simply an unpressurized plastic overflow tank. My neighbour just bought one that appears to be a sister to your's but his engine bay seems totally stuffed compared to mine. Prudent 50-50 weight distribution with a tiny non-leaking battery in the trunk is A-OK too!

    I am getting ready to replace 80 year old siding ( it did not leak) with vinyl and I too am concerned water will not return to the outside along the windows etc. . The standard way to install at ends of vinyl siding seems very risky and leaks are likely, almost certain. I like your idea but want to go further as water can still run behind the siding and could end up running off the vinyl to the wall. I don't like hoping and praying to prevent leaks. (which god should i pray too for leak prevention?) I want to be positive no water can enter the wall so I get at least 30 years on trash bag siding.

      Hi thanks for watching and the comments. The way my windows were designed in an effort to eliminate the "J" channel around us horrible. As you could see there was no way that they wouldn't leak. I think that within a few years there will be huge lawsuits regarding vinyl siding. The installers really don't care and know they won't be anywhere around when problems start showing for home owners. Either way I think you may have already but if not please consider Subscribing and hitting the like button. I would really appreciate it.

      Hi thanks for watching and the comments. Yeah, my thoughts are the screws going thru the aluminum channel are an excellent source for a leak. They penetrate thru the extrusion and thru the roofing material. Usually there is only a small bead of caulk that seals the top edge of the extrusion. I pulled out the plastic strip that covers the screws and covered them with the tape. It might choke down the small gutter a little but they clog easily anyway. Good luck with your project. I think you may have already but if not please consider Subscribing. I would really appreciate it.

    When I torque the rod arm to the crank the crank won’t turn it locks it up any idea why it is doing that

      Hum, that's really odd. Do you have them turned the same direction as they were when you removed them? Is the crank pushed completely into the case? If you didn't get the crankshaft completely back into the case the rods might be binding when you tighten them down.

      @@NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS I do have them the same direction they were removed along with the marks lined up. I will double check to make sure I have the crank pushed all the way in and I will let you know. Thanks for your help.

      As I remember you can move the 2 idler pulleys by hand to get enough slack in the belt. I believe they move outwards away from the center of the mower.
