Evening Primrose PART 2: the Taproot
If you are looking for something to eat, why not give Evening Primrose taproots a try, it’s free food from the earth…how incredible!! It’s the perfect time to get out there and harvest roots.
In this video we focus specifically on the Evening Primrose’s Taproot, but if you want to know more about the plant as a whole, please check out Part 1: The Seeds.

Evening Primrose PART 1: the Seeds
Просмотров 3572 месяца назад
In this video we look at Evening Primrose [Oenothera biennis]. It’s a good time to get out there and harvest the plant’s most medicinal part - the seeds. Evening Primrose seeds are loaded with an oil that is rich in the fatty acid GLA [gamma-linolenic acid] Ingesting the seed of the Evening Primrose will allow you to gain all the benefits of this free radical inhibitor; reducing anxiety, chroni...

They love peanuts in the shell... so do the jays and squirrels though.
So picturesque! Amazing moment captured 😊
Thank You for helping Crow.
It makes me happy that Crow is loved by you.
Thx 👍
I buy raw peanuts in 40# sacks monthly. Every morning they wake me to come out for their feeding time. Crows are extremely smart and entertaining. They will grab 2-3 whole peanuts unshelled in their beaks and fly off to stash the treasure and immediately return for more. Crow are feeding from the ground and squirrels have their own feeder (a hole in an old oak tree about three feet of the ground. Thanks for the video. In Central Florida instead of turkeys we have Sandhill Cranes that feed 2-3 times a day. They have become friendly and stand at the back door and holler if the cracked corn is low.
So amzing what you're doing. Very courageous. How does your handsome little vid friend keep his paws from freezing. My beagle would never be able to handle it 😄
That’s kind of you to say, thank you. Not all dogs are built equally😅. I babysat a beagle not too long ago, incredible dogs but difficult to control outside. I had a pug who wouldn’t stand a chance, and I have a rottie who prefers a warm bed. Shadow is an Australian Cattle Dog, built tough for extremes. She’d follow me anywhere rain or shine (or snow). She’s the best partner. Thanks for watching.
A person that loves a crow they can't see get's a sub from me. Love is precious.
You are delightful.
I love this haha that’s why I’m hear I swear I said the same things took me a couple days to do all the research collected a bunch found lots of good recipes
@@robynstone5834 🙌
I would of started with putting his good on the picnic table there. To gain his trust.😊
I had 2 guys that would sit on the wire attached to my soffit and he'd look down at me and puff up doing a low like purring sound and of course I would talk to him tell him handsome he is, are you hungry pretty bird...i could walk on the lawn where they were !one a few feet from them and they would just walk to the side and wait for their goodies.😆😎
Hello Lisa and Thank you for showing us how you made the crow feeder. May I inquire about your coat and what the name brand is? Looks super warm and I have been looking for one that is quality. Thank you :)
Hi Ruby, thank you for the lovely comment. The coat is amazing, I’m very glad I got it. Keeps me warm and comfy no matter the weather. It is Swedish wool, Micklagaard is the brand. Here is the exact model: micklagaard.com/en-ca/collections/anoraks/products/anorak-abisko
@@offthepathlearning Thank you sooooo much. A friend from Michigan, USA! :)
I like the fact that you seem to mainly use glass and stainless steel forgoing the plastic. I’m attempting to do the same. I’ve seen your jar labels in another video. Where do you get them from? I like the old-timey look!
Oh yes, I try my best to avoid plastic where I can, and I love old-timey anything! I got my labels from amazon, though these days I prefer just using masking tape if it’s for my own use. It makes for an easier cleanup when you are done, those cute labels are hard to remove, but I still use them for gifts. Here are the links for some of the labels I’ve used: tinyurl.com/52km8xpv tinyurl.com/56za3m8j tinyurl.com/bdfbvf4k
There are secluded water front areas in Pennsylvania (USA) but very very few. To have so few neighbors I’m sure is both a blessing and a curse, but wow the peace and serenity has to be amazing. Truly blessed. 😊
If you’re looking for topics for videos… I’d like to know more about the fire Pitt with the cage over it. Was it built to meet regulations, are you in a high risk fire area etc. we rented a cabin in Maine and there was no outside fire Pitt which is very odd for a lakeside cabin in Pennsylvania. It was in the pines so that’s the best we could come up with. LOL I’d be interested to hear about the cage. I’m odd what can I say?! 😂
It was not an easy task to get that thing in its place, so thanks for noticing 😅 Yes, there are regulations about fires, you can’t just have an open fire, and the risk level is dependent on the conditions at the time. Fires may be banned out right during certain periods if it’s too dry. I was very apprehensive about making fires when we first moved here, the thought of burning down the forest terrified me, so I wanted it there to be safe…but it does become a hassle when you just want to burn brush. Here is the exact model: foyersfiremax.com/en/produit/the-ember/
@ very cool thanks! Great stuff! Watch more of your vids!
Would like to see a video about the green wagon in your shop. I’ve been looking for one with a dump. Looks like that may be one. I like the big ATV tires on it too. Looks like a great yard wagon! Looking forward to seeing it. I’m a new subscriber! 🎉
Ah it’s a great little trailer, made in Ontario and has all kinds of extras like aluminum skis for winter. Here it is in action: ruclips.net/video/QCHoCeiEEso/видео.html muts.ca/product/muts-atv-dump-trailer/ Thanks for the sub! 😄
Great video keep it up!
Wow what a very nice feeder!!! Awww yeah you built it great and its Super tough cause you glued and nail it and its built well!!! That thing will last a long time! New subscriber here! Thanks for the work ya do and Crows have always interested me!! Kudos!!!!
thanks for the sub! (and the nice comment) 😃
I have a few crows that would come to my backyard and I feed them with peanuts and cooked chicken strips. They would caw in the morning to let me that they are ready for their breakfast 😊
Thank you for the video of your project. I live in the woods in the PNW and want a feeder similar to that. I spend a lot of time out in woods and have to ask- How do you have such nice nails working like that? 😉
It’s a great feeder, I like how high it goes, and the animals love it, but not ideal for Crow activity. Given the recommendations in the comments, I think a stationary post is the way to go. Looks like beautiful country where you are, do you like to forage? When I lived in the city, I used to like having long nails. I missed them for a bit and there was a window in the season where I thought I could have them again…it didn’t last long 🤭 Thank you for watching and the comment 🙏
@ I haven’t foraged yet. I want to get better at it-especially with mushrooms. The mushrooms I’ve found and identified with an app have been poison so far. I do know there are a lot of wild plants I can eat. It is so beautiful here! It’s been a challenge as climate change creates dangers to our environment and the little micro ways that it’s changing. I enjoy your RUclips!
I have been putting out peanuts and sunflower seeds for crows , magpies and squirrels, I put the peanuts on the city owned garbage bin and compost bin, and I put the sunflower seeds on an old wooden table as a diversion to keep the Corvids and squirrels separated,I have had a small family of crows show up I think it is a mother and 2 offspring but the bulk of the birds that show up are Black Billed Magpies, not the least bit timid, unlike their Crow and Raven cousins, who are quite timid and easily spooked by stray cats or strange sounds, like blenders..darn breakfast smoothies.
Thanks for the video. Again something I've not heard of doing.
@@zachcarney3910 thanks for watching Zach

I have seen other videos that say Crows don't like a feeder that swings. They like them stationary on the top of a post where they feel more secure. You might try that.

@Lissa is it the sound of a Wolf at the 4 minutes mark?
@@DavidBeaudoin-ey7om I can't say for sure, but I think it's a coywolf. Coyote/wolf hybrids, common up here. It was quite haunting to hear... incredible moment

Just found your channel. Can't wait to see more. Thank you!
As tu déjà eu se problème? Merci!
Oui!!
These are out again! Just found a bunch for the first time. I only have ever found the ringless honey mushroom here
@@HoneybeeHollowGardens yes they are!! So exciting, just harvested some today ☺️
No, there aren't necessarily honey mushrooms growing next to it.But they probably are in season and are growing somewhere around. But most of the time you do find the Grey entaloma mushroom next to the shrimp..this year I did not...shrimp was alone

any bird will eat from any table if it is hungry enough so im ignoring the "crows like this type of table" did you know all wild animals eat meat or bones? Little ducklings will even eat each other if overcrowded, evolution is moving constantly the only areas that dont (as much) for example would be like an ant eater eating ants.... you're not gonna put seeds out for it. if anything, changing routine habits that are not held by evolutionary discipline provides opportunity to learn so this is a good thing.
