Artist Spotlight: Acrylic Painting and "The Classical Tradition of Painting" with Artist – Alex Hess
In this video I share the story of what influenced my works and how I utilize acrylic paint in a way that is reminiscent of the past masters. The shots throughout this video were taken at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona, PA. In this exhibition "A Glorious Tradition" I have 13 paintings on display.
“It wasn’t until I began to explore these masters and developed an avid passion for art history that I began to fully realize what the human potential for art can be,”
I believe this video provides insight on my vision in ways that are personal and continually push the boundaries of creation. Thank you all for the support.

    Somehow this video managed to omit Picasso's La Vie, which is probably the most well-known painting in the museum. Kind of like going to the Louvre and skipping past the Mona Lisa.

Great presentation. FYI- it's Lock Naw. Like Lochness Monster, not Loch-naw. Also helps that you paint. Painters see things non-painter's don't, so listening to your take on aspects of a painting is not only informing, but also enlightening. I Subscribed. Thanks, can't wait to watch more of your video's.

    Thank you for this presentation- your awareness brought so much to consider and absorb to someone who is, to begin with, saturated with a deep appreciation for all that Sargent's wizardry conveys. I would love to add that his focus on values brings with it a feeling that is so similar to Edward Hopper's work, in that they render beauty, at times, with a singular perfection whose essence emits- a seeming loneliness. Your copy of Madame X was stunning. Thank you for sharing your gifts.

    Monet and John Singer Sargent are my two favorite artists. In 1999 for my birthday, my husband and I flew from San Francisco to Boston for the Sargent retrospective at the MFA. Most wonderful day of my entire life, as I got to see "Carnation, Lily, Lily Rose" in person. My favorite painting of all time. It was so beautiful that I burst into tears, along with many other visitors. The museum had place handy boxes of Kleenex on the benches. I have been trying to find a copy of the exhibit book ever since, as I failed to buy it then. Thank you for your wonderful talk and I look forward to more. By the way, I am a docent at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, and have spent my entire life going to art museums. Thank you, Dr. Lou Ann Vidmar

    Who are you? Do you paint? How old are you??You might want to realize that its art, not work and watching someone stare at a monitor and talk about what they think without showing it ?Well thats not really helpful as painting look very different in life then they do on a flat screen.....another observation if you want to make videos is "Get a personality" the artists we remember,WE REMEMBER BECAUSE OF WHO THEY WERE AS MUCH AS FOR THEIR "ART".....considering that art has become so common and digital well ,talent and skill with a brush is developed over time....try to paint for the love of it and dont try to have a career in art as it will ruin your creative spark and unique vision you should develop.....its arrogant and silly to think you know about the great masters without time and experience and respect....just saying

    • @karinvankempen6892
      @karinvankempen6892 Год назад

      @@alexhess_artist No, Just saying what an artist would not need to do, tracing. It’s a skill that people study for years and I think it’s a pity that on you tube there’s a lot of teaching that skip the drawing part because they are tracing or even ‘teach’ to first trace an image. Getting the proportions right is a difficult part of the job. If video’s are just for teaching painting it’s allright because one might make a copy anyway just to teach techniques, but then it could just be mentioned that the drawing is traced because of that. I see you got a few questions about it. If you were not tracing the sketch, good for you, then teach people that too…people would like to watch that too.

    • @alexhess_artist
      @alexhess_artist Год назад

      @@karinvankempen6892 That's fair in some ways... I will say, I think it's a dated way to view painting and making art in general. // BRAVO! you spent 20hrs sketching and gridding out a masterstudy // Thinking pragmatic... If you were smart you would spend 20mins and "trace" or project for basic shapes... I once had a professor tell me "No one cares about the details of how the sauce is made, they ultimately care if it tastes good." I would recommend focusing on creating compelling art and focus less on if someone follows the rules... Hate to break it to you - Art has no rules, that's why people love it.
