Conclusion: The rebuild was great every bits & pieces, old & new parts falls nicely into place. The reason why spring was not used for the rebuild is simply because of weight. good video. i love those old white Ind hubs and cranks. i'm still hoping to snag a high end Marin hardtail as they came with those hubs and White Ind cranks . I still have the fork from the old 1995 Marin Pine Mountain but the rest is all gone.
Yeah MARIN Bikes the infamous greyish-silver frames are always sleek and clean. Those white silver hubs and white cranks will definitely make the bike glow even more. Some how the Manitou 4 and the Manitou EFC always go very well with MARIN bikes. They just don't look very nice with ROCKSHOX Judy's. Yeah I love these old White Industries HUBs very much since the 90s too...The Ringle and Chris King HUBs just didn't hit me but they were very very good performance HUBs too. Another or my dream bike is the GT TEAM LTS 1995, the one with the FOX ALP 4R rear suspension. I hope some day I can get to rebuild one.
Great bike and video. I love GT's and built and sold them in the mid 90's. I have a 1991 Karakoram in purple swirl and Ubrake, 1995 Timberline in Team Scream,1998 Avalanche Le, full XT the only year in 90s they made it 6061 like the Zaskar, 1999 Zaskar full XTR ,and a 4130 LTS4000 .
Thank you ThinkPad. Nice collection of GT bikes you had there. I am working on the second video for the Zaskar LE 95 stay tuned ☕☕
Such a satisfying process of restoration... Even though i saw many forks in much worse conditions. Thank you
Thank you so much Steppenwolf : )
M900, Judy, SL, nice !
Thank you Resynthesizer & happy new year to you : )
Nice informative video!new sub here!when I put this kit to my Carisma crawler,it works but when I turn the steering it stops my throttle ,any idea why this is happening.
Hi mpampis thanks for the sub. Check your plugs if they are connected properly. Channel 1 to (servo) Channel 1....Ch 2 to (esc) Ch 2....because there are so many wires to wires connection we lost sight. Make sure your plugs direction are all correct position too.
@ thank you!
You are welcome : )

Nice job on this GT!
Thank you Mike. 🎄Merry Christmas & Happy New Year🎄
perfect bass
我应该使用 Dji pocket osmo 来录制立体声。因为我使用的 iPhone X 只能捕捉单声道。谢谢您也祝您新年快乐。
Wow, those decals are no joke. Well done man. My Plazma MKII is on back order... The decals on it look challenging as well. Great job!
Yes you are right those decals were quite a pain the .... to deal with. I should have use more soapy water technic to get them easier to work with in the positioning at the body shell. Yes the Plazma Mk II seem quite challenging as well.
@divisionbreak Yes, I saw a video of a guy using shampoo and water to make them slide across the lexan, then he uses a small, squeegee style rubber card to remove the soap. Same technique as window tint, just smaller scale. Then he hit everything with a hair dryer/heat gun. Im curious, what country are you in? Greetings from the Space Coast FL, USA!!!
Hi SpaceCoast. I am over at Singapore (South East Asia). Pleasure to meet you. 🎄& Happy 2025 New Year to you too.
Excellent rebuild! Meticulous to the point of OCD, which I respect.
Thank you very much Steven. Merry Christmas to you🎄& all the best in the year 2025. Take care. : )
They used to make tires called “city slickers” when ya riding pavement, skinny front and thick back is the way to a smile on you’re face!
My kind of dream build, thanks bro, nice apartment too! Perfect video
Thank you very much Dwayne. Stay tune for a 2nd video with some upgrades with the 95 GT Zaskar LE later.....Salsa, WHITE INDUSTRIES, Ritchey, Continental, Maxxis..... & Merry Christmas to you 🎄: )
can you let me know... esc, battery, motor?
1. ESC : Kyosho LE MANS 240S ESC (Speed Controller) 2. Motor : Kyosho LE MANS 480T Brushless Motor 3. Sensor Cable (Route 246) 4. Battery : Gens Ace 6000 HV 7.6V 100C 2S1P
Thx bro😅
You are welcome. 🎄Happy Holidays 😀
you can't fucking talk ?
very nice bike, but why you did not assemble the complete bike first and rebuild after cleanig, greasing and polishing all the parts?
Thank you so much Phil. Because what you are seeing there is the actual sequence of the parts availability from ebay mostly, then to parts arrival, parts cleaning, parts assemble to bike. Or new accessories from online shops ......which ever parts come first I will get them unbox and video record it in order. Hence while waiting for item to arrive.... I could be doing the wheels first or I could be cleaning the bike frame, could be greasing bottom bracket first......I wont know......so thats why the whole build there seem very random but it's the actual order of the build I took. And the whole process took nearly a year to complete....from hunting for parts online (subject to availability) , video recording, video editing. The GT Zaskar LE bike was purchased in June 2023.
@@divisionbreak thanx for your very detailed answer, know i can understand your intention about the build. a few years ago i wanted to build my dreambike, a MARIN Eldridge Grade from 99, it took a year to find a frameset for my height 55/56 cm, so meanwhile i picked a nice Mavic SUP wheelset with Hügi 240‘s, XTR 950 RD and FD, Magura HS33 raceline brakeset, KORE stem and handlebar and so on…, after repainting the frame and rebuild the bike i was so happy that it turned so nice….but 2 weeks later a lousy thief broke into my workshop and had stolen this and 2 other bikes i was devastated because not only the money but all the planning, searching to keep all the parts and all the hours of work to make my dreambike happen.. So always keep an eye on your Zaskar and enjoy your rides
I feel you man Phil. It must have been really devastating to experience that. When I was a kid 9-10yrs old (1988) mom bought me a Taiwan made USD$400 White BMX bike so that I could cycle to a near-by neighbourhood for tuition. I locked the bike at a housing water pipes with a cheap china cable lock. When I returned to my bike after tuition...it was gone. I search frantically every corners...gone...devastated....lost. Never had any more bicycles then on....till 1995 GT Avalanche. Which other 2 bikes the thief stolen from your warehouse? Your set up for the MARIN looks awesome I love those bright yellow MAGURA too. Now I am wary for my bike, I try not to leave it out of sight when I am out riding. Thanks for the tip.
@@divisionbreak hi the orher was a nearly brandnew Rose Count Solo ( from my son) and an older Giant mtb, hopefully my insurance paid for the damage.
I wish you all the best. Hopefully you will have a new bike some day to ride again. I actually have a 2nd video to present for the GT Zaskar LE later. I have finished up lacing a pair of Ritchey Vantage Sport rims to a set of White Industries Hubs. They were my dream Hubs back in the 90s which I couldn't afford back then. I am still searching for a pair (Blue) Salsa Titanium Quick Release. And hopefully some Ringle MOJO (Blue) Peace cantilever cable hanger. And hopefully a 26.8 Syncros titanium seat post. They are very hard to come by these days. : )
I salute the effort to make the fork lighter, but I cannot justify switching from metal coils to elastomer stacks for the spring function. Elastomer's softness is temperature-dependent, coil is much more stable. Elastomers can literally melt from overheating during hard riding, while the coil will survive it. And assuming if the fork won't be ridden hard - then why bother with the weight so much? Maybe going after titanium coils to save weight could be an option. I do not know how realistic it would be to find a titanium spring of matching dimensions and stiffness. Nice job on the damper unit!
Thank you Grigory. I went with elastomers because I wanted that genuine that authenticity feel of how the suspension should be designed by the engineers. Depending how much you ride. I believe these Elastomers will last for a quite some time (a few years at least). And they are not overly expensive to purchase too for replacement in future. : )
@@divisionbreak Yes, modern elastomers should last considerably longer than their predecessors from the 90's. I have recently rebuilt an older fork that uses elastomers as negative spring (and air for positive spring). It works fine now.
What bicycle are you riding now Grigory.
@@divisionbreak Right now I am lying on a couch and not riding :-) Otherwise it's a bunch of different bicycles. The one with Magura Durin fork that I've rebuilt is not mine however.
@divisionbreak - Why don't you recycle the metal instead of putting it in the landfill?
They will still be recycled later at the sorting facility with the general waste.
Just a great video - I have a 1997 Zaskar in 18'', so this is quite similar. GT crossed the shift cables at the down tube, you seem to run them in parallel. Was this an active decision on your side? I think I'll do the same, and my YF007 shift guide has been cut by the shift cable. You're using a Shimano shift guide obviously. Thanks! Your Zaskar LE is a dream bike.
Thank you so much Amerigo. You are really 👍🏼. I never thought anyone would take notice of that you are very attentive very detail. Yes I wasn't convinced crossing the cables. Everyone took it for granted and adopted that crossed cable fashion for their MTB. I dug back to look at how specifically the 1990s GT Zaskar LE photos and learned how they were done. And indeed they adopted the parallel route. Don't look at those newer rebuild in the recent years in google images. Find those GT Zaskar LE that was photographed back in the 1990s...especially those from the 1990's product catalog photoshoot PDF.
@@divisionbreak I just double-checked on my mine. They are really crossed and this gives a very natural, harmonic curve for the cable sleeves. I'll have to install new shifter cables anyway, I'll see if I follow your path. Also, I'll have to open my Rock Shox Judy. Thanks for that video, too. Great work! Where are you located?
Thank you Amerigo. Try your best to keep the cable hose horizontal for about 1.5cm - 2.5 cm from their adjusting barrel. I used this video for referencing. Around time stamp= 3:25 (ruclips.net/video/Xg5MrDgLhHI/видео.html). I am over at (South East Asia) Singapore : )
@@divisionbreak Thanks, this is helpful - again. I will just follow all of your videos from now. Thanks for your support, with greetings from ZRH to SIN.
Where did you purchase the rebuild and sticker kits?
Hey Thomas. They are from SRP specialtyretroproducts. All the links are at the youtube description...
A friend has the first version Soundstick and several magnets fell off the back of the tweeters. I have read a few websites that the satellite housings are glued together and using a razor/penknife to score a line is enough to weaken the glue bond. In my case, they are solidly glued together and I have made several attempts to score a line. Prying apart is nearly impossible and wedging a small screwdriver is also impossible. Any tips, please?
Hi Mark. The cleanest way to get it open is still the Pen-knife scoring method. Otherwise another way is by using a Dremel Tool. The Pen-knife method definitely require a pair of steady hands and determination and controlled force to hold the speaker down on a table and just keep scoring at the groove of the speaker shell. Try to find a (OLFA PC-L) Acrylic sheet cutter. I feel that cutter is way easier to score than the conventional pen-knife.
Great attention to detail noticed the FE Gleeson map on the wall. GT my favorite bikes l have had many over the years had a freestyler BMX in 82 now I now have a Aggressor sport .
Thank you very much Gary 👍🏼
🖤
Thanks bro.
Epic workmanship 👏🏼
Thanks aada.
Beautiful bike! Great build with nice components. The yellow KORE stem is classic high end GT Back in that era, custom components were a big thing. I still ride a ‘93 Zaskar love to see this level of appreciation. Ace build, dude!
Thank you so much Tyler. I am rebuilding a set of new rims currently: (Ritchey Vantage Sport w/ White Industries Hubs). I'll get another video out for the new upgrades soon. Take care & ride safe. : )
Just finished my chassis and electronics today. Will tackle the body in a week or so. I like the tip on using the brown teflon tape. Great idea.
Nice work Miller. All the best for the outcome Fantom. 👍🏼
Very nice👍👍👍. I would have kept the Sugino crank - they are of the highest quality and polish up nicely - I just prefer the silver to the black - but that's just my opinion. Please never hammer the headset in - you can make a tool using a piece of threaded rod, some large washers and a couple of nuts and press them in. I would love to get my hands on a Zaskar to rebuild.
Thank you John. Yes a silver crank like the XTR M900 would have been nice too. A blue set of KOOKA crankset or a CookBros I wouldn't mind too. I didn't like this flat profile look and feel of the Sugino Crank hence I changed it.

@@divisionbreak thank you mate
Thanks for your video. I would like to know what brand and type of tape was used to wrap around the damper piston shaft before you placed the cone shaped end plate on the shaft. Thanks again.
Hi Roy you mean the grey tape at 19:40. That's just a Japan: 6mm MT masking tape. I wrap a tape there was to let the (shaft end plate) sit more snug-fit (tighly) on to the shaft end. You can also use any ordinary tape too if you find your end plate sit loosely at the shaft end.
I copied you and god damn my board turns like butter now
Nice...👍🏼
Is it still stable at high speeds?
The stability of the board depends on how tight or loose you adjust at the Kingpin Nut. You don't want to over-tighten to over stiffen the board. Neither you want it too loose as it will be wobbly. The set up there has a very well-balanced of stability.
jai la meme fourche . le rebond se règle ? je vois qu'il ya marquer adjust + ? merci
Thank you phillip. No the fork is unadjusted. I did not increase the knobs at the fork. Neutral.
Hey man, cool vid. Do you not need to use glue like in the instructions for the stock transmission? Cheers from the UK!!
Thank you very much Eddie. Nope no glue was neeeded. Only Loctite-Threadlocker for some screw joints.
@@divisionbreak Cheers dude!
Nice job. My dream bike was a 1995 Trek 9800 Pro OCLV that I still ride today. No V Break but XTR through and through, SPD Pedals and Judy fork upgraded with Speed Springs.
The Trek 9900 OCLV Pro Issue 1995 was a head turner. I remembered my friend had one. It feels out of this world when it was released. Extremely light and the subtle carbon textured details was amazing. The 1995 Trek 9800 Pro OCLV purple color one is beautiful.
Nice job. Polished aluminum is my favorite "color" on the Zaskar.
Thank you Alex : ) 👍🏼
Nice job mate.
Thank you bikerebuilder 👍🏼
Nice job. A little crazy heavy with the paint. The placement of the decals was meticulous. I will use this video for my rebuild of my ‘95 Trek 9800. Thank you.
Thank you for watching kz6nc. If you are going to redo the paint job for your suspension fork too try a stronger primer. The one I used in the video had some paint chipping off later. Try this or other brands instead: www.mr-hobby.com/en/product2/category_33/1872.html
Thank you so much for this! I've just picked up a set from eBay and hope to return it to its former glory with a damn good clean. One question if I may - the set has the original power adapter (measured output at 16.66V DC) and, while the set sounds great, the blue LED is lit but *very* dim. Could that be caused by a problem with the power adapter, or perhaps a failed component on the circuit board? Thanks for any advice you can offer 🙏
You are welcome anytime touchstone64. Thank you for the kind words. And yes you are correct. Get yourself a new power adapter if the original one is what you will be using. Because they have been around for 2 decades. My blue LED started to get dimmer and dimmer, day by day, night by night till it just cut off sound/music all by itself but comes back alive when you hit the switch off/on again. I am living in South East Asia we use 3pins plug here same as UK. @@divisionbreak ordered 👍 Again, thanks for your insight and for being so helpful 🙏
Nice. The new power adapter will definitely deliver a sonic impact for the HK soundstick for sure. It's my pleasure to help. All the best, take care & enjoy the music. : )
@@divisionbreak yep, certainly sounds great! The new power adapter hasn't had an impact on the LED brightness though, so I'm going to disassemble and have a look at the components 👍
I have learn something from it thanks bro.❤
You are welcome bro : ) 👍🏼
Me too ! thank you for the heads up on this item much appreciated!
Nice work!!
Thank you very much Cycling Inc. 👍🏼
It was a nice job, but I would like to share a few ideas. If it were me, I would choose a higher series so that I could upgrade to v brake. Also, I think the rear derailleur outer cable was long. the longer the longer the more friction. Finally, hand tools are best, the park tool, but the big wrench you use with them can strip them.
Thanks aplerenkaradeniz : )
What is the advantage with Carver CX raiser pad?
Hi ronnie the original riser pads provided was really hard like some kind of cheap plastic material. The Carver riser pads have better cushioning and is quieter. Means it can absorb more vibration better than the original pads.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching madi : )👍🏼

I just put new tubes and tires like 2 days ago and this video popped up! It’s a sign
Indeed 👍🏼... I am changing new rim tapes for both rims right now. My inner tubes started to blow from the inside on separate occasion. I suspect the spokes that are protruding and the deteriorated old rim tapes are adding some pressure to the tubes causing them to puncture. I got these: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005444716181.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.6e5e1802cZizYy
