    We may be disappointed in specs etc. But this release is what makes changes, new and better tech. We should be applauding RM for beeing in the driver seat of innovation. This is what makes competition up their game and this is what leads to better tech for us consumers. My boox go 10,3 got stolen on tusday, wednesday I ordered the rm paper pro. I may be disappointed, but I think this will be a game changer.

      You won't be disappointed bro, not at all. It will be a awesome machine, and you're right, it pushes innovation. My gripe really isn't with the tech, because, to me, the screen is super impressive, and absolutely necessary for mainstream color adoption. Kaleido 3 wasn't and isn't the way, it's more of a stop gap measure along the way to better technologies, like this Gallery 3 screen in the rM Paper Pro. Besides that, it's going to be to best built device of 2024, without a doubt. I'm getting one as well, even though I know I'm not who they are marketing to. I'm getting it because I know for most people, it's going to be all they need, and I'd like to be a helpful resource for those people... as well as my power user homies who wouldn't touch this with a 10' pole lol. Thanks for the comment bro!

    As always my friend, a great video and perspective. And don't worry, you beat me to it. I'll be talking about it this weekend. The pen to ink issue is because it is an active pen, no Wacom layer. I have heard some say that was the only way to get the particles to behave correctly. Not sure but a recharchable proprietary pen reminds me even more of Apple.

    Don’t stress about not “being first, behind, or catching up”, we can all watch the other channels. We came here for your POV the other “firsts” and invitees were more about impressions and such - which is good. But I listened (didn’t not view since I was focused elsewhere) to those guys and frankly, production value = 10, content = 2 “find previous tech content, replace with RMPP content-voila” - each episode for those channels just sound the same regardless of product. You good dawg. All good.

  • @gulpowizzard
    @gulpowizzard День назад

    RMPP specs are only disappointing to those who expect running 3rd party apps as those require more power. Remarkable team creates their own, well optimized Linux distro for their devices. Gallery 3 decision is really interesting as they made it to work by using an old but fancy trick - the device first draws a line in a fast-reacting color (black or blue, idk) and then redraws it in selected color, as for Gallery 3 colors does affect the speed of drawing. The Bigme Galy showed us this the wrong way. Overall, the color and size make this device worth it along with Remarkable being the Apple of e-ink (now even stylus is apple like) :). My SN A5X still reigns although I can't say that I'm not interested in this.

      Thanks for the rundown of eInk techniques. I'm super interested in how it functions in hopes of understanding these devices better. Its a good device and its gonna sell, but it's not "special" like how the rM2 was. And other than that screen, it's not doing anything new.

    🙋‍♂Hey Roderick! For those who need a focus device reMarkable is the way to go. The only issuesI have is the chipset which was launched in 2012 and the 2GB of onboard RAM. If you need to open multiple PDFs at one time the device might get sluggish. I know power is not a very demanding issue for these devices but seriously an extra 2GB of RAM was not going to break the bank. I was not impressed with the Gallery screen as I noticed delay in the color rendering. The typing aspect ratio is the same as the reMarkable 2 where the text is centered and does not use the full screen. The pen is proprietary and is not Wacom-compatible, so if you lose it need to buy a new one from manufacturer unless someone comes out with a cheaper version and at that point will it work properly. On the plus side, you have 64GB of onboard storage, Google and Onedrive support and the back light is nice touch👍. Price! spending nearly $1,000.00 for the tablet, the Plus Marker and the Typing Folio is a bit much for just a note-taking and PDF reader/annotator in my opinion. The expense may be justified by the end user. I agree with you this not a revolutionary device but more so evolutionary. As always Kudos from NYC🗽.

    I'm an architect, and the most difficult thing in good design is the ability to remove the unnecessary. With all due respect to many of the comments I see on this video, I can tell the commenters are not a regular user of the Remarkable 2. I've been using it since December 2021 and it's value is that it's not trying to do everything like a tablet. It's easy to compare a remarkable product to competitors on specs and see the remarkable fallen short however if you ever use it on a daily basis you'll find like I have that it becomes an indispensable piece of tech.

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology День назад

      The reMarkable is a very good, well-designed and executed device. It's "simple" UI design and Tools are a plus for the majority of people. Majority being the operative word here. My viewers are oftentimes more power users (The minority) who need way more tools than what the reMarkable devices provide. That's not to say that the devices are bad, just their simplicity isn't a plus for us. I own and use the reMarkable device, not as often as my Supernote or Boox Go 10.3, but it has its uses, like when I'm doing collaborative work and other people who aren't familiar with eInk devices, will be handling my device - I choose the reMarkable in those case. Anyone can pick it up and use it within minutes, or even seconds. You can never cover all the bases, and reMarkable chose the ones they wanted to cover, leaving some, like me, unattended to. For the most part. Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I value all perspectives :)

    They keep the glass screen, which is brittle and more likely to break. They tout the larger screen size to hide the fact that they need a significantly larger battery to keep their two week battery life to accommodate the Gallery 3. I think reducing the max colors to 20k was a smart move; it might improve power efficiency. And the ecosystem is still restrictive compared to Supernote, e.g., no syncing with OneDrive. The screen looks nice and the marketing is slick, but I think I'm going with the Supernote A5X2.

    I ordered one right after the livestreamed video finished and as soon as the website refreshed. I was so hyped but I started to regret after I looked at more comments on reddit and on the specs. I blindly thought they improved all the specs in addition to the highlighted features. Among the 3 highlighted features, bigger screen, color display, front light, I am only interested in the bigger screen. Big disappointments/concerns are that 1. The screen resolution stays almost the same as reMarkable 2 (I thought 300 ppi is standard in today's market. I guess they have to make compromise for their unprecedented color e-ink tech. But I am not really interested in color. I just want higher resolution...) 2. The stylus is now an active pen, meaning there is no more customized EMR pen, potentially higher chance of failure?, inconvenience due to needing charging. And did anyone notice - they don't sell replacement nibs for the new pen separately. Does it mean I have to buy a new pen if all of my replacement nibs wear down?? If that is the case, it is so disappointing to see. They probably want to make big profit off the pen alone.

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology День назад

      I agree with every point you made here. I honestly think reMarkable has gotten complacent. Since their 5 year old device is still selling like hotcakes even with its miniscule specs. That has emboldened them to continue the underpowered approach that's been working for them. The Paper Pro will sell like hotcakes initially, off the reMarkable name alone but it won't be long before Onyx makes a Boox product that just destroys the Paper Pro. That's my prediction.

    Great video!! I was waiting to hear your prospective!! I don’t like the size, but I love the color display tech they have decided to adopt. Having used a Boox Tab Mini C, I can appreciate colors that pop. If tablets and phones as we know didn’t exist, I would have appreciated the Mini C more. The Mini C and color E-ink tablets that exist today often acts as a tablet that can compete with modern tablets regardless of what the companies that produces them say they are for, and I think because of that, for me I just could not justify the purchase because the colors didn’t pop, and despite the advancements in preventing ghosting, it just made no sense to me to use android apps on an E-ink display when I already have phones and tablets. When I think of the Remarkable tablet today after owning the Remarkable 2 for nearly a year, I think of it as a “Stone Tablet”. At a point in time, people wrote on stone. We eventually moved to paper. I feel it’s the same with the Paper Pro- we have paper, but now we have color paper!! So I can see why you are not impressed. For me, I have always disliked the fact that E-ink did not have color for the purpose of writing because you cannot highlight in yellow on the device. You can highlight still, but to really see it as it should be intended, you have to view your notes on a device that has color to see the effect. This paper tablet solves that issue with having good colors on the device that you are taking notes on. For me, I don’t see a need to have my notes in the cloud anymore unless I really want to view my notes on other devices, something I have not done, but would have if I decided to highlight as I notate and if I wanted to study those notes with yellow highlighting. I think this a great conclusion to someone producing a device that is as close as possible to going to the store, grabbing a basket, putting a writing pad of your choice, a pen or pencil, and a highlighter in it, paying for it, take it home, put it all on your desk and start taking notes. When I look at this device in this way, I think it’s a worthwhile purchase if the use of color is important to you. For me it is, but up until now I have accepted and invested (Remarkable 2, Boox Note Air 2) in taking notes without color to the point where it will be a bit difficult to purchase this one because it has color. I think I will eventually buy it, especially if they offer trade-ins for users that have the Remarkable 2.

    I believe you can think of Remarkable as the Apple of e-ink devices. I'm relatively new to this space, but I've now tried all the top e-ink devices. Remarkable seems to focus on quality and getting their features right, rather than rushing to be the first to release something or just pushing products out the door like Boox. While you could argue that they are expensive, consider this: you can spend $550 on a Remarkable device and use it for 3 to 4 years, or you can spend $400 on a Boox device that may get replaced by the company within 9 months to a year. The choice is yours!

    Your reaction to the "replacement nib plate" (7:20) is so much that it starts to confuse me. I know that you have reviewed reMarkable 2. Isn't the design an exact copy from reMarkable 2? or did reMarkable 2 not have this when you reviewed it? or am I missing something here that the design is special in some other way?

      The The reMarkable Paper Pro was just announced. I'd take a look at that. Though it's not as impressive as I thought it should have been, it's still a remarkable device, and they make awesome tech. If thats too pricey take a look at the Note Air 3. The thing with lighting is, if you think you might need it, you probably do. And the new reMarkable has light and color :)

    I bought the BOOX go 10.3 as a Supernote owner of the A5x and A6x. Yes I have a problem buttttt I am really enjoying the 10.3 speed, organizational features, clean smaller and thinner design, and magnetic pen attachment - which is a big deal for me because I like to hold JUST the device and pen (not a case on top adding weight).

    Today my boox go 10,3 got stolen. I need to get a new e-ink device. I have been following your channel and you also have the Nomad. My question is, should I go for supernote or boox? I love that the boox has so many possibilities, but I find myself not using the potensial. I use it for work, taking notes in meetings and opening documents corresponding to my meetings. I need a device that can sync two ways with personal onedrive, open pdfs, and other doc formats. I need my mail and outlook calendar. I think supernote has all this?? I probably can not connect with onedrive client built in from Ratta because of restrictions from my IT department (I can not on boox) but If I can sideload MS outlook and onderive, they will work. With your experience with both boox and supernote, what would you recommend? Also, how is the nomad size for note taking? too small? I know the A5X2 is coming and tomorrow Remarkable has big news. Thanks!

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology 3 дня назад

      I think the Nomad is too small for proper PDF viewing, and that would be my only concern recommending it for what you want to do. Plus the PDF reader on the Nomad isn't all that good to start with. So if PDF/Document viewing is a major part of what you do, the Supernote platform ain't there yet, imo. The new A5X2 could be my useful but who knows when that's shipping. Even then, if they're using the same viewer, even that's going to be inadequate for what you are doing. The viewer has no real option for tweaking your visual/navigation experience. Honestly you had the best device for what you do, and I'd buy that again. The Go 10.3! Just so you know, if I lose mine, I'm buying it again as well. It's just that useful. Hope that helps.

I have been using an app for years called Notes Plus X that "cleans up" my handwriting and I've yet to see any app provide results that were as good as this. I am thinking about getting a device for notetaking, so leaning over Supernote over Boox at the moment. For e-reading, I already have Kobo devices Elipsa 2E and also Kobo Libra Colour. However the note taking functions in Kobo are very limited. One of my questions is whether people use different sized Supernote, once the large ones come out - I've read on reddit that sometimes when the documents sync there are sync conflicts and different versions of the file get saved. I am about to watch your other review to delve more deeply into the functions of Supernote.

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology 4 дня назад

      Thank you for stopping by. The Supernote is the device I think that would serve you best. It has a terrible reader app, but since you have other ereaders for that, I can't suggest the Supernote enough. The size issue is a real sticking point right now though. Without the most common size (10.3") available, it puts people who want to buy that size in a awkward position, since Ratta does not currently sell a 10.3" device. I cansize that works for what I was looking for at the time. But, man, I do wish I also have a bigger Supernote for times when I nee't attest to the syncing issues, but I'm sure people have found workarounds cause these crafty Supernote users will find a way to get that device working how they want it to. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else :)

      @@rantsabouttechnology I've watched lots of videos about Supernote and I'm quite taken with it. Originally I was considering the Boox Note Air 3C or the Boox Go 10.3, but it might be a bit too much for me to go into the Android ecosystem when I use lots of apple devices (iphone, ipad pro etc). I also considered waiting for the bigger A5X2 but tonight I've bite the bullet and bought the Supernote Nomad A6X2 because of all the fancy writing functionality. Really like the fact that Ratta offers 30 days return policy so I feel more comfortable trying it out. The Heart of Metal pen 2 looks amazing too. A lady also said in her video that it's possible to sync the documents well using the Google Drive, One Drive or Drop Box without conflicts, so if I want to get the big one in the future, I have the option to. It might take me a few goes at learning how to use this effectively though :)

      I was thinking the same thing. Then I realized that the reMarkable 2 has even worse stats (1GB RAM only 8Gb internal storage ect.), and it's been going for almost 5 years now, and still selling like hotcakes the last time I checked amazon. I'll be making that point in the next vid. Thanks for the comment.

    • @karlmunford7000
      @karlmunford7000 4 дня назад

      @@rantsabouttechnology Indeed, the reMarkable is a phenomenal product and can do allot with minimal specs by writing their own software, but what limiting the RAM does tell me is that this model is never likely to have access to Google Play, and if it ever does... will struggle to run many apps. It's the old Apple and Windows thing of the nineties all over again, Windows simply lazily jacked up the hardware to force it to run almost anything while Apple was able to keep the hardware at a minimum by writing the software for its hardware. Its getting competitive out there in the e-ink world which tells me there's money to be made, but as Kitt mentioned recently, thats a good thing as competitively could bring down the costs if similar products if they start to under cutting one another.

    This may be one of my favorite videos yet. I like the simplicity of the device and what seems like good intentionality. It will be interesting to see what your conclusions are. I don't see it replacing my Supernote, but it might have been in the running if it had been around back when I was looking. The no capacitive touch is interesting because it reminds me of the Palm Pilot. Not sure if I would miss it, but might. I do worry about the price at $369 when you compare it to the Boox Go 10.3. Overall, really good introduction to the device. Thanks!

      Thanks bro! I also dig the intentional nature of the device. The price is slightly cheaper than most other options when you factor in the case and pen that it comes with. but yeah, the price should have been around the 299$ mark for everything, imo. I guarantee the case and pen have it at that price. It reminds me of my old Apple Newton's Pen-only display, so I'm used to that already too. It's also been refreshing to use it without thinking about my fingers hitting something. Heads up they have a table of contents feature here. Works differently, but equally as good. Lots of little things here that make it interesting.

    Interesting device. So far I don't see the innovation although lack of capacity touch is an interesting choice. They got rid of the main problem with Supernote - palm rejection, although no gestures either. I like its battery - 6000 mAh is pretty much and should last a month of use. Has voice recording in notes which is also a nice addition. I'm definitely looking forward for more of this :). PS. I can hear already those loud moans "Whaat, no 300ppi screen?" and "Android 11 only?" :). Specs aren't great so won't be snappy with 3rd party apps.

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology 5 дней назад

      Yea my next video is addressing those shortcoming in the hardware specs. I honestly think for writing, you don't need a beefy processor with alotta RAM. It's only when you wanna throw scrolling, and video motion that it becomes an issue. With a focused device like this, that kinda power may not be needed. We'll see.

    The bad news: 227ppi, 1872 x 1404 resolution, Android 11, 1.8 quad-core, 2GB Ram, and 32 gb storage. Why does it need a 6000mAh battery?
