i have a stupid question , does the retaining bolt flange that holds the coil to the block have any ground , mine i cant tighten , the bolt holding it down is stripped , used truck , and i notice it knocks every so often , c 5 misfire

Yo ,take your grinder , with diamond metal cutting blade , make 4 cuts , don't cut the cast iron coming through the floor , take hammer bust flange , on cuts made , then pleal out lead joint , way faster than what your doing.

You needed to drill out the oakum hemp cloth with a 5/8 drill bit to remove the flange more easily. You shouldn't have to fight it that hard...

I just went ahead and changed all mine to have all new ones. Now i don't need to worry about them failing. I'm about to change all my injectors as well.

The set of $67 ones I got for replacement for 2001 5.4L Excursion, all 8 read as follows: Primary: 0.4 ohms Secondary: 5,900 to 5,990 ohms.

Me and my boyfriend have the same truck and model, he just changed the sparks plug and the plug wires but one of the wires keeps popping out when you go down the road and then it starts missing and shaking. We have tried all the things we. Can think of and also what we have looked up. So what can we do to .stop it from popping off ? Please help

Put heat on it an it will nearly fall out by tapping it with a allen wrench through the wheep hole behind it

I have toyota 4 pin coils. They show different. Three pins on top show ohm values. But pin to boot shows 0 values on new coil. Bad coil will show values on 3 pins to boot.

5 years later and still relevant to today. Thanks 2 bad coils here ohmed good on the primary side and nothing on the spark side.

I checked all 8 coils and they are within a half ohm of one another and newer spark plugs. Still have a terrible misfire and a loss in power. Throttle response is awful.

fact check. this guy's well-meaning but There is no way to test a weak coil. They act funny when they heat up. You ever go into supermarket and your car takes longer to start when you come back out. Well your ignition coil has heat soaked then it will show its true colors . I suppose maybe if you sat there with a hair dryer and heated the coil up maybe I don't know but I know that there's no way because a weak coil reacts to heat. In the market is saturated with fake motorcraft ignition coils so good luck if you purchase outside of the even advance Auto sold me fake motorcraft coils

From terminals mine are Ohm at 1.3 consistently but from terminal to plug I’m not getting anything

This is exactly how I test them, forwards and backwards, and keep track of the numbers. I'm dealing with a misfire in the 8th cylinder, E150 van, I just dropped it off at a local mechanic to give me a price to fix it, but if it's too much, I'm just gonna do it myself, vans are just a pain in the ass to work on and I'd much rather pay someone instead of me out here busting my knuckles in the cold, in waiting for the call with that number, that's why I'm watching videos on this stuff right now, if this dude says "$1,000" to change the plugs and coils in my van, fuck that I'll do it myself. Good video brother, not too many people know you can check the resistance on coils using the method you just showed👍👍

The bottom to top test shows you if it's shorting to ground on the secondary coil wire. ▪︎ Primary coil: the top connector is supposed to be 1.0Ω or less ▪︎ Secondary coil: Top to bottom is supposed to read between: 5.5-8KΩ (2pin, 2 wire types) 12-15KΩ (waste type)

Don’t want to throw a monkey wrench in the works here, but I have recently had a bad coil that tested fine, using an OHM meter. However, when installed it kept throwing a misfire code. I had an older coil from the same vehicle, as I had previously replaced them all. When installing the old coil, which also tested fine, the misfire code resolved. While OHM testing is a good indicator, it is not 100%, since they may test fine without a load, but under a load they fail. Just food for thought.
