Looking for a pick-me-up? Picking up a dropped BMW motorcycle
Hello Jocelin, wow, your latest vid was 2 years ago. You must be ridin instead of uploading :) - I got to you from @Doodle on a motor cycle and wanted to thank you for being an inspiration - I just got an S1000XR. I'm 5'11", 180 lbs and I can't touch flat-footed. After watching you, my perspective has changed significantly. Hope to meet you in person if my tour(s) bring me close your neck of the US :)
Absolutely loving and needed this series. I'm about to take on a taller bike.
Great to hear! You got this! 💪 thanks for watching!
@JocelinSnow thank you. I live in a 'complicated' welsh hillside village with twists, blind bends, and ignorant car drivers. So my cruiser has and will be my safer ride taking my (now as tall as me) daughter pillion. I'm just lacking the speed and thrill of a taller bike.
Finally some realistic tips from an actual short rider.
Thanks for watching!
if you stop at a traffic light or something do you feel comfortable leaning over and putting your foot down?
Yes, but it’s more of a slide off the seat. If I lean the bike over to get my foot down, the lean angle is too steep by the time my foot touches, and the bike will tip over. So sliding off the seat to get a foot down while the bike is in balance works best.
@@JocelinSnow I see. Thanks for taking out the time to respond. Seems complicated at first but I'm sure this is all just muscle memory to you at this point. Ironically, it may make you less likely to have an incident since you have to take extra special care in how you do things. Have a good day
Does boot size have much impact?
I have trained guys with size 13 boots, and no problem.
Poor Brock. Didn't know what he was signing up for 😂
You are the greatest! Watching you gives me confidence! Are you giving lessons by chance? I live in San Francisco, have a 2019 Suzuki 650 V Strom, riding since 2005 but still lack the confidence you exude. I don't aspire to get to your level, but sure would like a boost in confidence!
These are such amazing exercises. I haven't seen anyone teaching them. I will definitely be giving it a try. Thanks for sharing! Please keep bringing your valuable videos to all of us. These are very helpful, especially for women. 😃
Can this be used at a traffic light or crossroads as well?
I would not recommend having your side stand down at a traffic light or crossroad. While stopped at a traffic light, the one foot down and hook the seat with the other leg is best, until the light turns green.
Can this technique be used to stop and go as well at a traffic light or a crossroads?
Yes
You are my hero! You’re such an inspiration to me as a female rider!
4'11 here, it works, but have in mind that you WILL need to have some amount of leg muscle. Nothing a bit of exercise can't solve though!
Amazing! ❤❤❤
Very helpful! Thank you!
Great job. Does the weight being very low on the GS’s help? Wonder if the top heavy bikes are just as easy.. Nonetheless, great way to demonstrate solid technique.
when I tried this move, at the moment of starting rolling the bike, and I am stepping on the peg, I feel the bike is going to lay tours my side
Try positioning your body more over the center of the bike and slightly angle the bike away from you. It needs to be one swift movement to step up on the peg and get into balance. Don’t give up, you can do it!
You are so awesome Jocelin ❤
Awww ☺️ too kind, thank you!
Here I am a 4'6.. watching this to ride basic bike or a grom😂 would really wish to took taller bikes.. but let me tame this little bikes first..
You can do it!
If you have to do a circus act everytime your bike comes to a stop it is not the right setup for you. Very unsafe riding like a circus monkey.
You are my hero!! I’m 5’8” and I struggle to up-right my GS. I learned more from your episode 1 video than I have through my own experimentation or input from other riders. ❤
😊🤗🤗 this makes me so happy. Thank you for your message. Keep at it, you GOT this!
You make it look easy. I'm 68yo w 29.5" inseam and struggle w my KTM 690r esp w gear on it. I'll start practicing your techniques. Thanks Jocelin. ... btw, what is your inseam?
Thank you for commenting. Stick with it, you will master it. My inseam is just under 27”
@@JocelinSnow <27" .... holy cow! You have great tenacity, balance and teaching skills.
Thank you ☺️
Just came across a fellow rider broke down on the H1 on Oahu yesterday. No tow strap, but I carry a lot of stuff, and was able to make a system using a couple wraps of 550 cord. Not perfect, but I was able to get him off the interstate and safely out of traffic. Attached from bottom of my luggage rack to both his forks. It sure made him a happy fellow.
I have a hard enough time with both eyes open! Hashtag I’m with Brock
😂😂
Jocelin breaks it down and does a GREAT job
That stand and start is so awesome! Really enjoying these videos, can’t wait to catch up.
This woman is awesome. ❤
Hey I watched your video first before taking my first ride I'm 5"2 and it was super scary at first but I used what you said and it really worked thanks a billion 😊
Your message made my day. I’m thrilled you found the video helpful! Keep up the good work and happy riding!
With loop to no loop print out how to tie a suitable knot laminate it and put it in the bag. If you bike slides down a hill and needs pulling out you will need to know how to tie it to the bike. Also consider dyneema 12 strand rope buddy tow is rated to 1800lbs 5mm Dyneema is 5070lbs 6mm is 7054lbs both cost £25 but again you would need to know how to tie a loop. lastly when you tow a car the rear car only does the braking maybe that also applies to a motorbike to aid always keeping the rope taught
This really helps me since everybody is telling me that the bike ist to big and heavy for a small women. i will be practicing this to help me feel more confident
Hat's off to u mam . I'm getting confidence now.
Your videos are awesome
Thank you so much 😀
I’m 5 foot 9 and I still find the African Twin pretty high and the bouncing suspension makes it worse.
Thank you so much
Thank you
Thank you
Impressive 💪🏻
On the 'kickstand pivot turn' is it possible to turn the bike in the counter direction ie with the back of the bike moving towards you? That's the way that I've managed it and I can't seem to get it to go in the same direction as you demonstrated. Maybe I'm doing it wrong...
Many thanks for these excellent videos on coping with a big bike. You put me to shame, I'm 5' 8" and struggle a bit with my V-Strom 1050 XT. Your example is inspiring to me and I just wish that I'd found these videos earlier. I shall be practising what I've learnt in a few minutes. Best wishes and greetings from Cambridge, England.
So cool! Great stuff, will be looking at much more of your videos!
Thank You!
I'm a shorty just over 5ft, just tried this on the FJR and it works a treat, going to practice on my husbands R1250, you are awesome and an inspiration, thank you for this great video
I love it! So happy you found this video helpful. Thank you for sharing! We shorties gotta stick together! 👊😁
I cannot accurately say how much i enjoyed this video, especially the twist with the blind ride 😂😂😂😂😂😂 , makes me wana go test this out.
Hi Jocelyn, I’ve been trying to find information about your training centre. The website is unavailable. Where would I look to see information on your clinics and private lessons?
Hello Natalie! Thank you for your message! Please email me at: jocelinx@gmail.com and I will send you information about the training program.
In my opinion it is a question of self confidence, too. I ride an old r 100 gs PD from 89. When I rode to croatia it was very heavy because I carried too much luggage. So it was hard to get up and down for me, so it fell down. You know I pushed 110 kg on the Bench, so I am not a weak man, so I could get it up... but since it felt the first time it was in my head and so it felt 3 more times, that day...at the following night I couldn't sleep very well. But I don't know how, maybe because I talked to God, I managed to get this thought out of my head and the rest of the 10 days Holiday Trip she didn't fall anymore. I Wish you all merry xmas and a lot of adventures on your motorbikes. Take care...
Thank you so much Jocelin. I want to say that I did not expect a response to my boot question as I figured you would be busy and probably get millions of comments. You just made my day. I am also a woman’s size 7 so I am thrilled to have this information. I recently just stumbled upon your channel and have been watching your videos. I am from BC Canada. I would love more information, if there is any, on any clinics or private lessons you offer. I know you are a long ways away for me. I have considered a local BMW course here in Victoria but wonder if I am in a group of tall men, my tips for riding as a 5’3” female will be lost. I am also nervous about attending with a group of men. Anyway, thank you so much for your tips and videos. It’s cold here now so I have my 900 Tiger GT Pro uninsured. I hope to practice your skills drills in the spring. With gratitude Natalie.
Hello Natalie! It is truly a pleasure! I do offer trainings here in California and would be happy to send you more information. Please email me at: jocelinx@gmail.com and I will send you more information. Thanks for your message and stay warm up there this winter! All the best!
Hi Jocelin, what kind of boots do you wear? I’m having trouble finding good boots in my size.
Hello Natalie! I wear the Alpinestars Youth Tech7S (the S is for short I think) I’ve been wearing this boot for like 20 years (they used to be called tech 6s) They last me about a year. I’ve never broken a foot or an ankle while wearing these so I’ll keep wearing them. I’m a Women’s 7, so I wear a youth 6 (or sometimes I get a 5 for use in the supper with a thinner sock) I hope this helps
Dang.
😄😂🤣
Thank you for this! I'm showing this video to everyone that talks to me about lowering their bike or " woman can only ride small bikes" . ( They don't believe me that it's all about the technik because I'm 6,3...😄)
Hey jocelin, I'm 169 cms. Would I have any problem in riding in traffic in a bike of 835mm seat height?
Well first I had to get my US to metric system conversion tool out haha. You are taller than I am, so you should be able to manage any bike. 835mm seat height works out to be about 32.8” which is about what my KTM 500 dirt bike seat height is. It’s possible but depending on what your inseam is, you may find that you have to slide off the seat to get one foot down. (Dog on a fire hydrant) Your other foot may dangle above the foot peg, while you cradle the seat under your knee. It works, that’s how I ride tall bikes. Best of luck! Thanks for watching.
I came here from LanaWheels. This is so inspiring I don't wanna give up on my dream of owning an enduro. I got a 22" inseam so it's really a challenge but seeing you owning this is just super cool I had to applause at the end. Thank you Jocelin 🤍🤍🤍!!!
