DIY $1 SodaStream Cylinder Refills
Why not just switch to using a drinkmate? It carbonates any beverage not just water and it sounds like the screw in cylinders are far more common and compatible with the tank adapters available. I imagine if you were only refilling a screw in it would knock even more off the total price of your setup. If omnifizz price is the issue they have a “portable” version that actually will still work with the full size tanks and bottles for $60. You wouldn’t want it sitting on your counter but in terms of most bang for buck that’s what I would recommend.
Why are you using the 20-30$ price for a new bottle. A refill costs between 5$ to 7$ if you swap the smaller bottles. This kind of framing is basically lying. If you consider this price it isn’t that much of a bargain anymore.
Thank you for this quick video and follow-up! I always wonder if I'm wasting CO2 because I can't tell the difference between a full or empty canister by hand alone. This was super helpful.
What is your favourite model of all of them?
Hilarious. All I needed was to see the look on your face as you unboxed it to know it was not the model for me! It reminds me of a "chromed" plastic toilet roll holder lol
If this would be all metal it would be a great product, now its like they are arraid aarke will steal sales and made a similar product which just feels cheap
How is this adapter different from the adapter used to connect Sodastream to the co2 tank?
Same as older SodaStream ones. Blue version
it was wise to start your channel close to the black friday deals lol
hey i was thinking about get a 5 pound c02 or 10 pound c02 tank. Which one you recommend? Is the 10 pound heavy to carry around? Dunno if Ii should pay like 80 bucks more to go 10 pounds.
The 10-pound tank is heavy. But it’ll last you a long time. Make sure the brewery supply you have it filled at freezes the tank before it’s filled. The freezing allows the tank you get a 100% fill.
I think the Drinkmate Fizz diffuser is the decision-making spec I need. Two major reasons, I can safely carbonate cold bottled Coca-Cola and pump the fizz to the max. The second one is that the fizz contraption stays pressurized for a long time, what I do usually store the pressurized set inside the fridge for like 10 minutes before drinking it, allowing more CO2 to the drink.
Dear one: You need to shake the bottle to mix the CO2 as much as possible. Also you need to cool the water prior to carbonation. Hope that helps
Thank you Scott for the video; this and your other videos explain the process very well. I have been refilling my 60L and 130L tanks on my SodaStream system for many years. There used to be a company called CO2 Doctors, and they had the best-quality adapter setup for connecting and refilling SodaStream bottles. They also sold the unrestricted valve that went on the SodaStream bottles to remove the restrictive filling tops from SodaStream so that you could refill them yourself. Their adapter kit connected to the 20-pound Siphon tube tank, then attached to the SodaStream bottles without an adjusting valve; you would screw them in, and the permanent pin inside would automatically depress the SodaStream refill pin, which I like a lot. Their system costs about $100. Unfortunately, they are no longer in business. Some users in the comment section mentioned a significant safety point: the 20-pound tank recertification/hydro testing process. It is essential to make sure that you locate the date punched into the top of the tank, like an expiration date. Once that date arrives, you must take the tank to an authorized facility to recertify your CO2 tank. Usually, again already mentioned, a local brewery, a welding supply business, or a fire suppression business where they refill and service fire extinguishers. The process takes a day or two, and if they are not busy and cost less than $50, they will punch a new expiration date into the top of the tank after passing the hydro testing process. Usually, they are 5 years out, and smaller bottles are 10 years out. When hunting around for one of these businesses, I want you to please make sure that they will return your tank compared to some places that exchange tanks, which means when you give yours in, you will not get yours back; this is not ideal. The other issue with using a 20-pound siphon tube tank is that at a certain point, the large 20-pound tank will be unable to refill your smaller bottles as it doesn’t have enough pressure to push liquid and gas C02 into it. So, there is a loss there. I’ve put it at 70% usage and 30% loss. Absolutely no science behind that number; I am just sharing an example. I mention this because when this happens, you can’t refill your bottles and must refill your 20-pound tank again. When you bring it back to your refilling company, they will mention that the tank is not empty and will need to recoup that gas properly. Setting up this refilling process makes sense if you enjoy using your SodaStream because it saves a lot of money. I usually refill my 20-pound siphon tube tank for about $55, including tax, and it lasts about an entire year. Compared to $20 a month or more forever, once you purchase the necessary items, it pays for itself within the first year. Supporting your local business is also a good thing. Even though it is not a lot of money for them, I would rather it go to them than anyone else. When I refill my 60L and 130L SodaStream bottles, I don’t waste my time weighing them. I don’t weigh them because the bottles will stop receiving liquid/gas when they become full, as you can’t overfill them in any way. Having at least one spare bottle is excellent, so keep that one in the freezer (already mentioned) and ready to refill when needed, as refilling an icy bottle will allow more liquid CO2 to get in before it turns to gas, yielding a longer lasting bottle refill experience.
I wish I knew about this years ago, the 2.6kg tanks are very cheap and only $20 usd to refill, easily the size of 6 of the little ones. sad how much money I wasted on the soda stream brand, they charge way too much
My family runs about 5 packs of Perrier a month. I hope this helps. Also saw your video on the CO2 tank. I bought the Art + 3 cylinders for $100. And it should last maybe a bit more
Do you have to shake to tanks like some say or only when getting low?
Yea i rather use my soda stream adapter hooked up to my 20 pound tank.
That’s a great option for sure! As long as no siphon tube, should work great!
I wish they had a gauge on the machine, but your suggestions will work. Thanks
I spend around $50 for my 20 pound tank.i went that route because it last for months.yes get rid of the soda stream canister I don't last long at all and it's $17 refill.when i first started i purchased a used 20 pound tank off Facebook market place for $25 and swapped it out for a refill.20 pound new tanks are expensive and hard to find
What am I doing wrong? I bought a 20lb tank without the tubes so I'm turning upside down to get the fluid. The bottle will fill to a weight of 1050, but when go to use there are hardly any bubbles in liquid????
It sounds like an issue with the machine, you definitely have co2 in your cylinder at that weight gram wise.
I purchased the recommended adapter, but the thing will not fit far enough down on my Quick Connect Sodastream bottle. Any ideas? Thanks
Would this work with Ensõ?
Great video, I have had the same challenges with the first clamp style and is looking for an alternative. Are you able to provide the link for the middle hose option?
I bought my 2 years ago and it start leaking co2. It can not be fixed.
Hi Scott, thanks for the video. What equipment are you using to make this video? Thanks
Great video. You get about 22 ish refills from a full tank. 20 pounds/.9 per cylinder.
Why stop at 5lbs. Go to 20lbs.
great video man! easy and quick solutions for annoying problems!
I knew he was a Harris voter before I saw the hat lmao
So if a canister holds 14.5 oz of Co2 and there are 16 oz in a pound . You would get 22 out of a 20 lb tank , not 40. FYI Co2 tanks need to get re- certified as a pressure vessel every 5 years .A Siphon/Dip tube 20 lb. Tank cost about $200 and $25 to re certify . The cert date is stamped on the tank Mon/Yr . $21 to fill each time saving you $19/ canister .If you buy an addition 5 cylinders as Spares your total investment will be close to $500.00 however you will now own 5 + canister you will have filled your 20lb tank twice and will have saved $222.00 on refilling you canisters 38 times . Your welcome ..Jim
Looks like he was drinking them for days leading up to election… because no chance a blue wave was happening…. More like the left has the blues!
Question: Will this work with the Ninja Thirsti also? Thanks!
Good stuff, I like it. I check with your CO2 supplier (especially home brew shops) before spending money on Amazon as a lot of them will only exchange tanks. True air/gas suppliers have the [safety] equipment to refill tanks that are brought in. Also, tanks are certified for a limited time (5 years) and will need to be replaced or recertified after that. If you use an exchange system, this is typically built into the process, so you don't need to get new tanks regularly. If you refill your tank, it will need recertification, and some CO2 suppliers can do that as well.
Thanks for watching and great tip on local tank - my place will fill your own as long as certified. So I like my red one 🤣
You want to turn off the main tank because most of the lines I've come across are poorly made and the CO2 will permeate through the wall or fittings.
Always better safe! I have a co2 monitor I keep nearby as well.
underrated video
Lol what blue wave?
Um, poorest tank safety technique, since blind what's his name with no fingers
What specifically? I do address it being not secured - I don’t normally have it on a table, just for filming purposes.
@@sodascott Filming or no , the cylinder can hit the floor on its valves and. become a torpedo. Eye protection mandatory, gloves just good sense. You promote bad form and normalize deviance from safe procedure. Just sayin'
Any idea where you can find replacement parts for the newer machines? One of my Gaia units has never been able to seal correctly, and wont seal at all now. The company themselves wont provide anything
liability .huge.
aged like milk 😂
bro it should be red cuz it was a red wave tump
You forgot the Suff
Greetings from Germany, currently celebrating the red wave
Ofc someone from Germany would celebrate a fascist leader 😂
You should make a blue waffle next
Does it matter if the donor tank is half full? Should I keep it as full as possible all the time?
Is this possible with an Aarke?
It is! Just put together a quick video on how to do this with the Aarke: ruclips.net/video/5v_Yu-toXRI/видео.html
@ thank you! Blessings
What’s the minimum time they should be in the freezer for?
Very well done. Thank you some much.
You can all together skip refilling the 60L canisters and get an adapter to go straight into the machine from the large canister.
I got a 20 lb CO2 tank from my local Coca-Cola supplier. How can I tell if it has a siphon tube?
ive started refilling the canisters myself but ive let the gas continue flowing when there was a screeching noise, my canister still refilled fully. what does the screeching noise mean and is there any implications to it?
Great video. Queation for you. With a 20lb c02 tank, how many soda stream canisters are you able to fill? Curious how much is wasted with each venting process. Thanks in advance.
As I got better at it, I think my last tank I got around 16 canisters
Thanks for watching 🙏
I use mines everyday,probably about a month
