I don’t think a model should take 90 minutes to paint but that’s just me
That's fair, no wrong way to do it!
Lol jokes on you every single model i own was painted under 90 minutes
Fair enough! 😂
I ignore dying time and rely on my girlfriends hair dryer
Great move, a hair dryer would be a good investment!
As someone new to painting, this was pretty useful actually! I liked your reflection on what you learned as you went along, drying time is something I just learned the hard way yesterday ahah
So glad it was helpful!!! Unfortunately I had to learn all this stuff the hard way too, best way to learn!
Man hell yeah. 90 minutes sounds like a nice crunch to push the skills. 👌🏾
It was definitely a good time window, super fun project and definitely learned a lot and improved from it!
🧡
I think this is really solid for less than 90min. A full infantry force on that level would look great on the field.
Thanks a bunch!!! I think trying to do a whole army like this would be super fun so maybe I'll try that in the future!
Thanks for sharing. I like the effect you achieved on the wood. Tell me if I am wrong here, but for Sylvaneth, the Aelven spirits/souls inhabit the flora. Doesn't this mean that the flora is living/real while the Aelf is non-corporial? If this is the case, everything that is not Aelf should be painted with vivid colours, rather than ghostly colours - the wood, leaves, beehive and bees themselves. Now, I don't think I could handle painting every individual bee, but I wonder if a yellow base with a black wash would work. The wings I think are then the biggest issue, as I would want to paint them an irridescent white maybe. The staff is questionable. Is it a manifestation, projected by the Aelf spirit, or is it real too? My guess is that the staff is real, and hence requires vivid colouring, but then how does a spirit hold onto something that is real? I suppose it is just the same as how the spirit manipulates the real wood/flora, if indeed that is how it works - it's magic, of course! Nighthaunt models to me are the classic ghosts we see in movies and are the ideal candidate for an all-ghost effect - everything but the ground - like the Army of the Dead models painted by GW for the LotR MESBG. Any thoughts?
Thanks a bunch for watching! Very fair question that I don't fully know the answer to! I think you are correct that the spirit is inhabiting the flora/fauna so I agree that most of the non-spirit should be painted more realistic and vivid. I typically try to stick to that idea with my Sylvaneth in general but sometimes it can get sticky, as you're mentioning! The interesting thing with the bees with this model is that on the Games Workshop paint job the bees seem to blend from black and yellow to the ghostly gray... So they did both? It's a great question! Ultimately for me it's all about what looks best on the model!
@@herossongstudio Awesome. The best thing you can do is be happy with what you have produced. Knowing that there may be inconsistencies shouldn't discourage us, but rather motivate us to improve - we are all our worst critic, even though we know that nothing is/can be perfect. Cheers.
Well said!!!
Been looking a simple guide like this! Thank you so much!
So glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much for watching!
This is such an awesome thing! Great work.
Thanks so much!!
Interesting idea - I would however start with a dark grey undercoat, let that dry and then spread a fairly thick coat of crackle medium onto all the 'real birch' areas, which would then be painted white/very light grey after the crackle has dried compretely. Perhaps give it a try?
Very cool idea, thanks for the suggestion!! I'll definitely experiment with that stuff!
Damn you, now I have to do this with my Sylvaneth as well :-D Great job, I love the result!
Thank you so much! You definitely should, it's an awesome project!
This is a really smart idea and a geat execution! But if you dont close the holes on the side, is is gonna be a dusty nightmare
Thanks so much for the support! The handles are nice for carrying this around but the dust definitely could become an issue, thanks for the feedback!
This is awesome. I had the same idea for displaying my Necrons on the shelves of my Detolf, I just haven't got around to it yet. Thanks for the motivation and inspiration!
Thanks so much!!! So thrilled I could help provide inspiration!! Good luck, hope it turns out amazing!
Love how it looks possible upgrades are: A case that doesn't have handles, so its sealed from dust. On the magnets part. They are nice but do not put magnets on the base of the models itself. My experience is that this will result in incidents of them clumping together. Only putting magnets in the storage case and metal on the models prevents this from happening.
Thanks for the feedback! Agreed on the dust-free being a nice upgrade and I didn't magnetize the bases in part for that reason, I totally agree that everything getting stuck together would be unfortunate!
Neat!
Great idea and super work dude!
Thank you so much!
Very nice. I’ve been debating how to paint a Sylvaneth test model & think I’ve found my inspiration.
Thanks so much for the support, so glad I could provide some inspiration! Enjoy!
Interesting. I hadn’t considered a non traditional brown colour scheme. I may have to give this a go.
Love it, go for it!
I was thinking of doing something like this for my Blood Bowl team and seeing you do it may be the inspiration and direction I needed.
Love it, that's awesome! I think this would be an awesome project for a Blood Bowl team, I was thinking the same thing actually!
@@herossongstudio What thickness foam board did you use? Looking at starting one soon!
It's about 1/8 inch thick, just the standard stuff from the store!
@@herossongstudio Sweet thanks! I'm from the UK and just looking at it on amazon and they have all different thicknesses so just wondered what you used. Gonna go for 3mm then. Thanks :D
Got it, makes sense! Enjoy mate good luck!
Looks fabulous!
Thanks so much!
I might have to do this with my boys
You definitely should! It's a super fun project!
Looks excellent mate
Thanks so much, cheers!
This looks great! I really like how the diorama came out, and these boxes are almost perfect. They do have one glaring issue for me though: the handles are huge gaps in the side, which will admit dirt and dust and everything else inside. You might want to make some detachable covers for them.
Thanks so much! That's a great suggestion!
4:59 We’ve all had that moment that takes hours to find where that piece pinged off to … sometimes days… till you hear something clatter up the vacuum cleaner into oblivion
Oh yes, absolutely! Thankfully in this case I was able to locate it but it really could have gone south fast!
Great idea 👍
Thanks a bunch!
Could double down and put washers in the model spaces, magnets on the model bases and you've got extra security. Additionally, leaving the bottom paper layer on the foam core helps out a tonne - painting and securing the models (and protecting your plastic bin)
Agreed, adding more magnets would definitely add some extra stability, especially on the spots where there's a little less foam surrounding them or the model is top-heavy; thanks for the feedback, all great ideas!
such a cute idea, i might actually humor replicating it for going to tournys
Thanks so much, you definitely should! It's a super fun project!
Lots of work but looks lovely, NICE JOB :)
Thank you so much!
How high can you stack these and have it still feel stable?
I've got 6 or do stacked right now but it definitely feels like I could go higher! They fit together well and are pretty sturdy.
Cool
Could still magnetize no prob
You definitely could! I chose not to since things were pretty secure already but it would definitely be a good option for some of the more top-heavy models.
Fantastic!
Thanks so much!
too bad it's not dust free. but nice work, hope it makes you happy for a long time
Thank you, me too!
Amazing to watch 👍👍
Thanks a bunch!
Little idea for the next one you make. Under the hill of your diorama, you could add some simple leds. Those will shine through the clear plastic to the bottom box.
Love the idea, thanks! I was thinking about somehow building LEDs into the model as well... Definitely seems doable though, hopefully on a future project!
Love the video. Would love to see more videos on this different topic. Great work
Thanks a bunch! I'm definitely planning more, this was such a fun project!
cool idea!
Thanks a bunch!
This is such a amazing idea. I am inspired to buy everything I need to never try this myself because I'm afraid I'll fail. Can't wait to see what comes next and I hope you show more of these builds
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support!!! Why not go for it? You may love the results, and worst case if it does turn out bad you can throw it out, learn something and try again!
This is really cool. Well done!
Thanks so much!
That looks awesome! If it were me doing it, I just would have added some magnetic sheets into the holes and magnets to the models so that transportation would be even safer. It's probably fine if you're just carrying it but as soon as you put the box into a vehicle I personally would like more security.
Great point! Definitely could be modified with magnets, I think for some of the larger and more top-heavy models especially that would be helpful!
Very cool idea' deff trying this with my next commission
Thank you, that sounds awesome!
Wow! Great idea!
Thanks so much!
Bro. Maybe use a spray can of primer?
Great point, especially in the case of painting something white. I live in a generally cold region though with pretty limited access to outside space where people would be cool with me spray painting stuff... I have tried in the past and I find that sprays can be temperamental, at least for me! Brush on primers always go on the same so I usually opt to use them, but I will definitely agree with you that this white didn't cover as well as it could have! Thanks a bunch for the feedback!
@@herossongstudio Yeah. That’s the issue with canned paint. It’s definitely a downer. The end result was pretty good tho.
Holy shit…
Merci pour la vidéo
Looks good! These unique schemes that add interest to models but are simple to do? Chefs kiss
Thank you so much!
That looks really good, are the weapons and mushrooms on the rest of your Silvineth that same purple color, because if not that might be a good way to tie the army in together.
I ended up using different colors on these guys but I do like the idea, I generally have used different colors for the weapons across the army to give the idea of different kinds of magic flowing through the different kinds of trees. Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback!
how the fuck does this video only have 413 views, this is a fantastic tutorial with good flow and easy to follow steps as well as a really interesting paint scheme keep it up champ you are making fantastic stuff
Thank you so much for the support! I really appreciate it!!! Definitely planning to make a lot more videos in the future and I get so much motivation from comments like these so thanks again!
Damn that’s the most bodacious birch I’ve seen in a while
Thanks very much! Bodacious is just what I was going for!
