The Time I Went To China With World Famous Tattoo Artists
Is it true that the prices are typically more expensive than getting a tattoo on a typical regular day?
Shige is self taught and was a motorbike mechanic been following him for a long time
This piece is epic! I got my first tattoo 3 days ago - it's a small stick and poke of a very special symbol/logo
That looks like a piece from Shige of YellowBlaze
It is!🤙
Very cool
13:44 shoutout Stockton
Super cool,, but 100k..... jesus
Firme Chuco✊🏾😎🇲🇽
Realy nice bodysuit and it's extra cool that John is a retired firefighter. Many of the first people to wear full bodysuits in Japan were firefighters. I'm not entirely sure why the title of the video needed the dollar amount as the front and main tagline. It's very impressive and quite intricate. We all know tattoos are expensive, especially when it takes time and research to find the right artist and sit through the experience.
Great work shige san
Great video, very personal insight 👊
Some of us stilll care about quality, and we see the people with shitty tattoos aka blackout tattoos
I understand him but im sorry this particular piece is faded...like you can clearly see that. And im quite surprised tbh. The back is cool but the rest is not really legible. I have no problem with the 100k, its just i wonder if he understood his skin under tone🤔
tbh - i expected better work than this from someone so highly regarded. tattoos are average.
"If you could go back in time and give yourself advice what would it be?" I'd start earlier. "What advise would you give to someone thinking of getting a tattoo or even a full bodysuit like you?" Wait.
looks like a work from nick (sokertattoo) from 808 tattoo in kaneohe!?
name of the shop they’re in currently?
Elysian Tattoo Gallery in Sacramento,CA
shige is bad ass!
Always wanted to collect from Shige. One of my favorite Japanese tattoo artist. Very hard to book. The process to book is tough. You have to fly to Japan just for a consult and than he will put you on the waiting list. Not the usual just email or call the artist and they will book you in for an appointment. Maybe one day I’ll be able to. 🥲
Well Spoken
Yeah, a full suit is like 30-40k. The other 60k would be flights and accommodation probably, I guess, it only takes a month of actual tattoo time if you're going every day without a break. But the way he's done it yeah I can see it, if you're doing several trips and hiring a car, nice hotel etc.
All that ink, on a muffin top
Hes 52 and not even that bad
amazing brother
great series! this is dope!
Thank you🙌
I knew he was gonna be honest and genuine as soon as he said that Traditional Apprenticeship's are not needed and a thing of the past. Doesnt mean there isnt benefit to being an apprenticeship. In fact it gives you inside scoops and things you will never learn or practice until youre in the shop. But the cultist behavior of the tattoo industry has always been such a turn off and bummer to me. Id love to be an apprentice but I dont have the free time outside of work to really dedicate myself. But im still considering it tbh. I know I could make it work if i really wanted it.
Shige the goat
Yesssir south sac bois
dude love this style of documentary, very unique. Cheers sir
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it🙌
Awesome series!
Thank you!🙌
He may be counting travel expenses as part of the tattoo cost.
Ohh nvm
I knew immediately this was John Mendoza! I always be seeing the homie in shiges posts 😎
Love his story!
Thank you for the interview
Thank you for tuning in🙌💯
8:48 these lines look terrible if you zoom in, how is this guy considered a master tattooer? The lines look blotchy and rough, the yellow looks scarred.
Should probably brush up on the background of people before you run your mouth.
Looks faded af for 100k. Did he work for Ephemeral at the time? 😂😂
Looks pretty solid to me, have you seen more of Shige’s work?
Yea I gotta agree because it does look faded and I think it's the colors he picked. I'm not sure the skin under tone was taken into full account especially on the sleeves and front. The back is 👍🏾 though.
I really don’t like that yellow on the chest the back is amazing
The story of John Mendoza and Shige are oddly ispirational to me, even though I'll probably never get tattoos.
Thank you for this comment. One of my biggest goals with this channel is to show off the world of tattoo to everyone regardless if you are are blasted from head to toe or will never have a tattoo🤙
Why was the photo of Tahiti blurred out?
After the video was released I was informed that the photo I used was not of Tahiti Felix. Once the video is up on RUclips I can’t remove it completely so I blurred it
Worth every penny
Amazing content thank you !!
100 grand doesn’t make sense ! What are the rates? 500 an hour
Best episode
Thank you🙌
tattoos are cringe
100k I buy an house.
Beautiful work by the master Shige!
Loooove the art but his sleeves are just not on par with the Phoenix and back piece, it looks like 2 different artists did them imo
I dont think a lot of people know who Shige is, he pushed the boundaries on what I perceive as contemporary/modern Japanese tattooing. He push what traditional japanese tattooing is and created a new foundation for japanese tattooing. By creating beautiful large scaled body suits, sleeves, back pieces with flow that compliment the body, but also tells your life story through his own art interpretation. He for me as an artist is an inspiration to follow as I definitely learn from his "flow and movement", but his hospitality and consideration to the client as the artist. Thank you #yellowblaze
💯
He's lame... he was inspired by hood and yakuza tattoos. The yakuza don't even pay that much for their tatts. Ppl like this make the price of tatts go up.
Yakuza weren’t the only people in Japan to get tattoos, actually a few hundred years ago, Japanese fire fighters would have full bodysuits or back pieces as a form of protection while they were fighting fires, these fire fighters would become local heroes and even started making tattoos a bit popular around Japan before the government made it illegal. So it’s actually pretty fitting for this guy who was a fire fighter to get a bodysuit in Japan. 😗
Did you not hear his explanation? He mentioned he from Sac and was around gangster tatts and references the movie Black Rain and the Yakuza 😑
I think he should have went to STATE OF GRACE TATTOO either TAKI or HORITOMO would have done a MUCH better job and they are in SAN JOSE he fuck himself. His work doesn’t pop very weak honestly 💯
Couldn’t disagree more. Plus they just have different styles, taki and tomo are way more traditional Japanese, shige has mentioned in interviews that his work isn’t traditional. Everyone has their own preference in style, but to say it’s a weak tattoo is ridiculous
@@Maudtattoos I’m looking from a stand point of the work doesn’t catch your eye but I respect the commitment 💯
I agree fs! The sleeves and chest do look extremely weak and faded
@@Maudtattoos Shige is also friends with Taki and Tomo so there's mutual respect and they would also probably disagree.
Idk this was the first traditional full body suit I want a huge fan of. I thought all the yellow was too much
This Shinge looks very popular going from the comments I don’t like it at all It’s certainly not bold or strong. It’s more pastel than black. Lines look fairly bodge in places. Looks like something a chick would get. Yeah no thanks.
You should look at more of his work honestly, look up Jeff Gogue’s back piece or Tomo’s back piece
@@Maudtattoos look up Garth b neale 😂😂 honestly I have my back and ass and legs and arms And etc This is fluff for 🧁s
If i was elon musk rich i would pay an artist 1 million for 2 tattoo just to say my tattoos are worth a million. This guys tattoos are very very cool tho!
Baller moves😂
