When Fred calls Super Chicken "Cassius", he is referring to Cassius Clay, who was better known as Muhammad Ali. I think that he was in jail for refusing to be drafted into going to Vìetnam when this cartoon came out, and wouldn't get to fight again until 1970.

The intro was John Daly from 'What's My Line'. Is the narrator/newsman showing us Univac, Chet Huntley? Although it is a commercial, it is also newsworthy.

This computer had vacuum tubes or valves. The transistor had been invented only a few years earlier, and reliable manufacturing techniques for making them, and maybe solid engineering methods for using them, were still on the drawing board. This was one of the earliest commercial computers, following from government-funded research at the University of Pennsylvania that created ENIAC. ENIAC was the first or among the first electronic computers, completed near the end of World War II. The 'memory tanks' were filled with mercury. Sound waves are impressed at one end, travel the length of the tank, are sent back and received (according to another video here). With 16 tanks, to make a 16 bit word I suppose, this memory held around 1 K words, if i recall correctly what I read a long time ago.

My grandfather actually worked with a UNIVAC back in the early 50s on a ballistic missile program with the US Air Force.

They were completely twisted these cartoons. I remember the one about literal money laundry episode. Super Chicken ended up flying home full of laundry soap.

Notice he says "Memory Tanks" not "Memory Banks". Memory in the 50s wasn't the RAM like today. It was a giant metal tank filled with liquid mercury! They sent an impulse through the slow moving liquid and like a wave in the ocean, it would move slowly through the mercury to the other side, creating a short state of delay memory.

Actually, this was a Paramount "Noveltoon" (reissued as a "Harveytoon" for TV), originally released in August 1960, and of the last featuring the slightly redesigned "Tommy Tortoise" and "Moe Hare", who frequently co-starred in several Paramount cartoons during the '50s. Seymour Kneitel directed this one, with music by Winston Sharples. Jack Mercer and Gilbert Mack provide the voices...
