In his final vlog of his term of office; the Mayor of Louth, Councillor Darren Hobson, takes a look back at some of the highlights of recent months as he reflects on his second year in the role of Mayor.
Recent months have been particularly busy ones for the Mayor and Mayoress as many local organisations, businesses and other councils have taken the opportunity to hold events since restrictions meant that they were a challenge to take place. The Mayor discusses representing Louth at events, both in the town itself and across Lincolnshire, as well as presenting highlights of one of the main civic occasions for the town during the mayoral year.

In Louth we marked the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day at the War Memorial, in the Cornmarket and at St James' Church.

29th May 2020. We commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Louth Flood and remember the twenty-three people that lost their lives. The Rev'd Canon Nick Brown says prayers and the Mayor and Mayoress of Louth, Councillor Darren and Mrs. Sarah-Jayne Hobson lay a wreath at the Flood Memorial in Louth Cemetery.

    Lets hope flood preventative measures taken will avoid such a catastrophe again....because another extreme wet weather event will undoubtably at some time happen.

    Wow very interesting I lived in Louth until I was 17 years old. Can not remember learning about this in school. I'm 70 year's old now and just learning about it. Big thanks from me.

    Great video. I had heard about the flood but never realised the extent or the huge loss of live. That must have been a terrible time for the town with losses of WW1, then Spanish flu, then this. It must have been very traumatic.

    The photo of the man clinging to the lamp post was taken by my uncle, William Matthews. His younger brother recalls "the man on the post was a railwayman on his way home with his weeks wages in his coat, which he tried to pass to people in the window, but lost it in the flood.".

    Well done Louth Council and Dr Richard Gurnham. This serves as a great indicator that people can overcome adversity no matter how bad. It is actually uplifting to watch and wonder how they and we now manage.
