A Walk on the Cypress Side
Not all camera clubs are equal but once in a while you come across a great one filled with like minded people who's only purpose is to create images. The South Florida National Parks Camera Club is certainly one of those clubs. If you live anywhere in Florida, they would be worth checking out.
Regarding the video, being the professional I am, my microphone was left at home... So, enjoy the short video without me talking!!!!!

      @jasoneldridgephotography 2 месяца назад

      @@sarahjun8843 thanks for watching. This will be a different answer depending on the situation. With the tripod in the review it has a ballhead. So your camera would need an “arca swiss” plate or L-bracket that attaches to your camera. Then the camera attaches to the ballhead via the quick disconnect. Hope this helps and if you have any specific questions we can discuss via email if you want. jasoneldridgephoto@gmail.com This way if you are going to make a purchase of something we can make sure it’s all the right parts etc.

    My favorite piece of abstract art than I ever saw was a shot someone took in a gallery where the wall between works was blank and over-large for some reason, and one of the gallery-goers chose to put an extra set of cheap drug-store reading glasses on the floor facing the blank space on the wall... then took pictures of people who rounded the corner, saw the glasses, then came over and discussed what they thought of this strange new work there on the floor. It was 20 or more years ago and I'm sure the jpegs are long-lost on a five-computers-ago hard drive, but the memory will live forever! Now, you started by saying something... grumpy people online... photography... wait - do you guys by chance know Ken Wheeler?

      @@jasoneldridgephotography Don't know if he does any camera reviews anymore... changed his online name to Theoria Apophasis awhile back (likely because Ted Kaczynski was taken), and if that's not hint enough, it's not fit for viewing sober anymore really. But back in the day, he gave excellent (though decidedly niche) reviews. Bought a good half dozen lenses on his recommendation alone, and will tell you right here and now, he was right on every single one of the six. But his is a cautionary tale: don't go too deep into strange rabbit holes - the air down there is different; by the sounds of Ken now, the air must have an LSD mist laying low; a psychedelic miasma. Remember the OG Woodstock concert, whose film is still widely available (pretty much everywhere)? I'm guessing Ken whiffed the Brown kind ("Don't take the brown ____. It's not poison or anything, it's just bad.") Not judging. It's his journey, and I'm thankful for the great reviews still available on his YT channel. And to this day, if I'm every considering an older lens, I always take a peek to see if he's done a clip on it. More often than not, he has.

    The internet has really killed the small camera stores. The company that I used to work for had at least 16 stores when I started a little over 20 years ago and now they have a total of 4 stores. We always had people wanting us to match the online prices, which often just isn't feasible if you expect any profit at all. One year I had one of my bosses say that he was done with his holiday shopping and had ordered everything on Amazon. I looked right and him said, "and there's the problem." Nothing can replace the local store for being able to actually hold the gear and give it the old sniff test. Your point about establishing the relationships is also dead on.

    • @jasoneldridgephotography
      @jasoneldridgephotography 3 месяца назад

      If the brick and mortar store appears to have tried to get their prices to a reasonable point, I'll buy it there. Sometimes when the difference is several hundred dollars, I might get it online. In the case of this lens though, it will be the same retail price and I will have to pay a little extra for shipping, well worth it because I got to meet Travis! Not to mention he is getting the lens faster than aforementioned "big box" store. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • @craigpiferphotography
    @craigpiferphotography 3 месяца назад

    Yes, sharpness if overrated. Yes, sharpness is important. Both can be true. Too many people get caught up on the technical and forget that their is often emotion behind an image that is more important than any of that. I still remember years ago, while working at the local camera store, I had a customer order a reprint of a photo. It was a horrible photo by any technical standpoint, but I made the best print that I could from their negative. While my print was better (technically) than the original print, that they had also brought in, it wasn't what they wanted and I had to go back and print it again to match that original as closely as possible. They were tied emotionally to that original print and that was how it had to be, technical perfection wasn't even a consideration, nor should it be.

    • @jasoneldridgephotography
      @jasoneldridgephotography 3 месяца назад

      For me at least if the technical is poor enough that it truly distracts from the image then it is a failure. In the instances of this video I do not think what I consider a technical failure is significant enough to matter. My obsession with perfection however, nearly caused me to delete the images. But I love them so.... they say! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Depends on how badly unsharp (aka out of focus) it is and how much real estate does the area take. Basically is it a distraction? I saw both of your images and couldn’t see where it wasn’t sharp. I have one where some extreme foreground rocks were so out of focus that your eye went right to them. No amount of darkening or masking could make that go away. It was a great shot. I’m happier, I’m excited and always in love with the art of photography. But photography is a hard hobby and it’s a physically active. Photography makes me cancel out the hate and the negative, but with someone with mental health, it’s hard to deal with when people want to attack you and make false claims and try to rudely make fake reviews on your website. I’m just a human being trying to understand where I’d belong now at age 45 (turning 45 in August) I hope this encourages those with the same mindset and mental conditions to always try your best to look at the hood in life. Hi Jason, thanks for the videos. I use an Epson R3000 so can't speak to the Canon printers. I also can't print very large. I find that having a printer in the home works great, as long as you are printing often. It is a frustrating mess if the printer has been sitting for a while. I love the control that you have when printing in the home but I find myself moving more towards Bay Photo and away from home printing. I've had good luck with Bay Photo, but sometimes find the prints come back a little dark for my taste. I can get larger prints from Bay Photo and they frame it for me. A few times in the past, with more planned in the future, when I get a collection of photos, all on the same subject, I'll create a photo book in LrC and send it off the Blurb. Then I will gift copies of the coffee table book to friends and relatives.

      Thanks for the reply. I’ve been concerned about the loss of ink if I leave it set. That stuff isn’t cheap…. I noticed the dim photos from BayPhoto so I always up the exposure a little when I send it. The photo books has also been on my mind lately though not enough to do the research as yet. Some people do PDF books and while that’s a good use of the photos I’m looking for something more tangible. Something real.

      @@jasoneldridgephotography A mentor of mine, an engineer by trade, home printed to improve his photography. He printed his images at around 11"x13" or a little larger and stuck them on his cubicle walls. After spending a few weeks looking at those prints a few times a day he knew exactly how it would take that photo again. What was right about the image and what was wrong. He would remember this next time he was in the field regardless of current subject. He got very good quickly. He always had multiple prints hanging and rotated one out after a week or so. He used to get a lot of visitors to his desk just to see his latest photos.

      @@jerrythompson that’s a really nice way to use the images you print. Especially if others get to enjoy what you do as well! I’ve done often wondered if I would become overly critical if I saw the work everyday.

    You make a great point. I’m old enough to have shot film and nobody would see your work if you didn’t print it (at least make a contact sheet). I think it’s normal to be a perfectionist and see the flaws in your own work but it helps you grow as a photographer to display your work. Please get a printer I’ll follow along for sure. BTW Bay photo yikes a blast from the past (they ruined the last wedding I shot, a story for another time). Thanks for the content.

      Thanks for watching! I did my time in the darkrooms too. I wouldn’t trade it for the world but I wouldn’t go back either, lol. I think you’re right too, seeing our work displayed as it is meant to be is a great way to help ourselves improve the craft!
