I wish my local LEOs took car theft (or really any non-violent theft) seriously. In my area, police put zero effort in solving property crimes- big or small. I once had my car broken (windows smashed) into at work at 7am. I worked at a methadone clinic, which not only has cameras everywhere, but requires patients to scan their license/ID when they: walk in, before the dosing window, and when they leave. We knew EXACTLY who broke in- video from all angles, their ID, what time etc. I didn't have too much of value- except a kindle. Which isn't expensive, but it was linked to my banking. They were able to buy thousands of dollars worth of Amazon gift cards...and Star Wars porn (?!) After not hearing from the detective, I called and asked for an update. He mumbled that he went to their house and no one answered the door. The end. And this is why there is so much bigger theft, such as cars, are such a problem where I live. If you get away with breaking glass, stealing items and spending thousands with impunity, then why not steal a car?
