Grading. Why not using a microscope. haha! I stumbled on RUclips on Magic and decided to take a look for nostalgia. I loved it how the nerds were looking at my unbeatable black decks, not in sleeves and loose in my pocket. They hated me for it. Especially when I practically gave them away to a friend in front of them. Best money ever spend. on a black decks with sol ring, demonic tutor, spirit of the night, strip mine, dark ritual, grave bane zombies, Sengir vampires, dark ritual in combo with white weenie/serra angel, mana artifacts,, and/or blue counter spells and blue tap/untap spells. But they were the first to get down on their knees to get their hands on my red cards that I traded for black, white and blue. And this was 25 years ago, when you were able to be unbeatable in this way when your budget was smaller than most. Good riddance.

Let me make sure I’m understanding the terminology correctly. This video describes a “back cut” card as the corners of the card curling backwards and showing on the BACK part of the card and not the front, but if the card was cut face down (from the back) wouldn’t that produce the curles to show on the front and not the back? Wouldn’t the blades pushing down makevthe curles happen on the front and not the back? Hope this makes sense as I was curious.

As long a the front looks good it will look nice in a binder.

I got a bunch of cards returned yesterday, and white slips were included! But it was because I asked for them. I submitted two of the same card, one belonging to my daughter, and one belonging to a friend. I used a post-it note to designate them "A" and "B," and the grader used white slips to match my designation in order to keep the cards straight. Thank you for great customer service!

It’s so awesome to see a grading company that cares about educating the consumer. Is that below minimum grade feature new? I’ve never seen that before. Does it cost less if the card doesn’t get slabbed?

I have a few questions-assuming this video for educational purposes-is it part of the grading process to not use gloves? Is this a normality in grading? If you don't use gloves, won't you get fingerprints on the card? Also, with the card being placed down, then being picked up from the mat, wouldn't that cause a sort of scuffing on the back? I'm asking as someone who is meticulous with my cards. I use powerless nitrile gloves when opening packs or handling cards, and I never set them down on any surface until they're sleeved in a perfect fit/KMC sleeve. I'm mostly curious because I have pulled a serialized MTG card that eBay/CardKingdom/TCGPlayer is appraising at a minimum of $1,000, and I wanted to consider having it graded, however I would almost prefer for my sake that I keep it ungraded if gloves are absent in a grading process.

Love the honesty, it's a total crap shoot with a lot of room for human error etc.

CGC has been over-grading their cards. Way too many Pristine 10s being given out compared to the population counts. This is not how you compete with PSA/BGS.

Hi when you talk about corners, I just happen to have a pokemon card which are rounded, and mine happens to have 2 corners still partially attached...wound that be an error?

Please don't make SEC super dragon ball heroes (SDBH) cards as Ultimate Rare. SEC stands for Secret Rare, it's even part of their card number. People in the SDBH hobby have been sending their cards back as Mechanical Error because the CGC graders are labeling their Secret Rare cards as Ultimate Rare. Even Bandai, the manufacturer, has Secret Rare as its own rarity level. IT IS NOT A SUBSET OF ULTIMATE RARE. CGC will start to lose loyal customers who graded their SDBH cards with you. Please don't do this.

It is a shame that CGC doesn't have slabs designed to hold cards like this properly and uses sleeves inside a slab instead. I send my 1950's Bowman to SGC since CGC doesn't have special slabs for these. I would 100% switch to CGC for all vintage if they could have special labs for T206, Goudey, Play Ball, and early Bowman's.

Bart seemed a bit disappointed in the grades. Both seemed low to me. Wondering what the grader notes were.

Hello Andy. Thanks for the video. I do have some questions on surface issues since this is probably the hardest one to determine if there is a flaw or not... Sorry for the long winded comment. On older topps baseball cards, from the 80's how do fish eyes or ink run offs, how much do these issues matter? As an example, the record breaker cards from 89 topps are in red. Until i sent them in for grading and getting a grade lower than i expected, i thought the issue was related to that red background having some ink printing issues. I didnt notice a bunch of spots in the red area of the cards. Therefore, and i guess this applies to any cards, are fish eyes, double printing, shadowing and spotting an issue? If you are too incompetent to find the right gloves, you shouldn't take that as a reason to call yourself a grading school and make a video about it. I can guarantee you at every corner where you touched the card with your fingers I can see it on a spectral image.
