    Thank you for your video! I have a 2014 Ford CMax, not with that “bearing sound” but with a sort of small “lump” or “tik” sound at the end of almost 180 degrees turning my steering wheel left or right otherwise super quite. If took this in to a Ford dealer and they told me that my racking pinion assembly needs replacement. Many other people on a forum tell me that it sounds like my upper struts; which sounds more logical. I feel like a need to get a second opinion.

    Old school lip removal from used but still ok rotor, cross dressing the rotor for brake pad bedding ? Should be done manually, but? What’s your cause ?

    • @archcitygarage
      @archcitygarage 2 месяца назад

      The cause is a noise while braking. No brake lathe available. I was only taking the edges down where the pad edge was touching the lip. Did both sides. Brakes are over spec still and would make high pitch squeaks during slow brake events.

    • @Dazz-zj6np

    Excellent video. Just did mine today on the floor using a pump jack and jackstands. Thanks for your helpful video. The worst part of the job was separating the rusty exhaust pipes from the cats. Just like in your video one of the studs ended up snapping. Also anyone else trying this I’d suggest you go ahead and completely unbolt the sway bar. It gives you a lot more room to remove the rack and it’s only 4 bolts. Not worth wrestling with the rack with the sway bar in the way.

    Always That bolt breaks on every ford I tried to remove exhaust.

  • @johnrobi0
    @johnrobi0 10 месяцев назад

    After doing this myself, here are some pointers; It took me 3 hours almost to the minute. I did use a lift, air tools, and screw jacks for the engine/subframe support. Probably could have done it in 2 1/2. As soon as you remove the tires, loosen the tie rod jam nuts. Easier to do on the vehicle. Keep track of your steps, and do them in the reverse to reinstall. Don't try jumping ahead. This video is a great step-by-step tool. Before removing the exhaust bolts, have 2 of the 10mm x 3, and 2 of the 10mm x 1 inch bolts and nuts ready. If they break, they're studs. Make sure you have a way to remove studs. Air hammer worked perfectly. Bungee the hanging exhaust to the frame. You will have to loosen the sway bar brackets, and rotate it back. If you're still running into issues removing the rack, your subframe isn't low enough in the rear. Be careful; you're removing the rack near brake lines and fuel lines. Take your time. It comes out through the passenger side. You might need a 32mm wrench to stabilize the rack nuts. When reinstalling, you might find it useful to connect the harness and loosely attach the rack securing bolts. Then use your screw/transmission jack to lift the subframe to meet the steering shaft on the rack to the vehicle. I did not have to program this rack; I did use my launch scanner to clear the codes. After installing, test drive to be sure your vehicle goes into 4x4 if equipped. Hope this helps.
