Huh, I dunno how it's for consoles but as for PC, the base game costs 5 usd + 3-7 usd for each dlc. Considering the fact it's a game you could easily spend 100+ hours in, it's a fair trade

I started it with 12 mechwarriors and a hefty stable of mechs. I guess it's the way it's supposed to be played, but I basically ROFLstomped it by doing that.

I respectfully disagree. This DLC was great and I had a lot of fun playing through it. It was definitely challenging, but fun!

I just wish overall, they would flesh out the DLCs a bit.. Solaris in particular.

Great review, but I'm a bit confused by your statement at 12:35. From what I can recall, there is not a single Battletech RPG out there aside from maybe the first Westwood Battletech game from 1988, and that game's classification as an RPG is a bit dubious. And the vast majority of the other Battletech games are real-time, not turn based. The only two turn-based games that I know are the previously mentioned game by Westwood, and the 2017 Battletech from Harebrained Schemes. The MechWarrior, MechAssault and MechCommander games are all real-time games, unless I'm missing something.

The mods turn it into something it should've been from beginning. Fast repair times, no tonnage requirements, lower enemy damage, being able to jump into High Reward quest without wasting time, stronger 'Mech Traits, 'Mech/equipment delivery, no awful enemy chatter, ability to call for reinforcements, better economy, Battle Grid Orders, Better ENEMY SPAWNS etc. If it wasn't for all the expansions, nobody would bat an eye on this game after a year. At least the soundtrack is still a banger. EDIT: Hell, even as of new DLC, AI has HORRENDUS problems with pathfinding. This game is nowhere near complete or a "gem", but given that MWO was a disaster, I expect nothing less from PGI.

I played this game at launch and it was a disasterous 0/10 game. Literally no redeeming qualities. After 3-4 years of patches and fuck ton of polished mods however, i recently played it again and would give it acceptable 5-6/10. Game is still horrible compared to what we used to get. Any of the MW4 titles are miles better than this and as i hear it, MW2 and 3 is even better than 4 according to people who played it (im not that old so i never did). What i was suprised was how bad it was compared to MWO which came out from the same studio. They couldnt even replicate that which they made before. So im not really expecting much from next dlc from them, the Clans.

I have noticed though Legends of the Kestrel Lance give Massive Battles Of mechs i have noticed i had to use Ma_ mechs to just to complete the battle, Battletech the game tells you about it by paradox , Lady arano

I played this some last month and played it for a long time back in 20 and 21. I enjoyed it but it had two major flaws. First is I feel the Mech customization rules are too limiting. IMO adding things like Jump Jets should be allowed on every Mech and variant. The second is that at the time the game was made there was only one official design from the era the story campaign starts that fit the three criteria of my favorite Mechs (Jump Jet Equipped Heavy class, with only offensive energy weapons though ammo based defenses are tolerable). But it had lousy firepower for its size and isn't in the game. So to get something that I really like before the in game calendar rolls around to 3040 I have to leave a weapon hardpoint empty which I hate doing. To make matters worse there's a Mech variant in the game where when playing the tabletop campaign I can easily retrofit it to meet all three criteria just by removing some armor and adding jump jets but the PC/Console game won't let me add jump jets to the Mech in question

I was in the initial preorder and enjoyed it for a while. Years later, I just went back to it with heavily discounted dlc's and lots of great mods and it's freaking fantastic. My favorite game right now.

If ypu've only played vanilla, I would recommend trying it again with mods. Nexus mods has a plethora of fun things to add and try and you'll have even more toys and fun things to play with.

The mele combat was the BEST thing.

Still don't know how they fucked up multi player. Each player should bring four mechs. One of each type, light, medium, heavy, assault. Mission briefing, then each player picks mech. YOU DO NOT USE HOSTS RESOURCES. Your mechs repair comes from your save.

HBS campaign feel like a 9-years-old-kid cartoon to me. MW5 campaign is somehow more mediocre than that.

Four Years after this game came out still rock stupid AI, with a community response of "It costs money and time they don't have" as if basic game features is too much to ask for. Every DLC since the first has been awful.

I agree that PGI can't write a good story to save their life. They seem hell bent on doing an engaging story for Clans though, so fingers crossed.

a couple years late but did start playing this game a agree with everything you say and idk if you mentioned but late game the game forces you to use assault mechs (obviously) which drastically increases the traversal time in missions like beachhead, raid and assassination which i find particularly annoying especially late game beachhead where having 4 assault mechs is a must meaning that you'll get bombarded by artillery almost indefinitely.

I played New Game+ with that mech suit. It was good, so I'm surprised you think so little of it. Also, the NPCs now speak with AI-generated VAs!

literally nobody likes beachheads, all they do is cost you more while giving you less. the tonnage limit serves a purpose. you have more tonnage the harder the mission. the most viable way of making money is figuring out how to farm lower missions (less tonnage) the most efficiently. the DLC's are a problem i'll admit, because this video is 2 years old, but the game is only now at a stage most would call "complete" with current dlc's. heavy mechs are fairly fast for how armored you are, i think you meant to say "assault mechs" when you complained about speed, as they are the slowest class, in which i would agree with you. Sorry bro, but it's clear you havent played all that long, if you played just to write a review, you probably did a fairly decent job, but you clearly have a level of understanding about the game well below the average regular player and i wouldn't trust your word to new players much at all.

I really liked you're video, mechassault 1 & 2 were my introduction it battletech then MWO then i discovered MW5M on gamepass. Got real reparative real fast but with mods and the dlc its everything i dreamed of as a kid .

You're the second guy I've heard diss the AI but could that be a PC thing? I can walk three abreast with my team then suddenly turn and they'll turn smoothly with me and when I've tested them by zigging and zagging erratically they'll slow or stop to ensure I don't hit them. I've done at least 5 protector missions and was worried about AI damaging property but only witnessed that once when an AI shot through an antenna to get to an enemy and the only time they walk in front of me is when they're spinning around chasing a speedy little bitch-mech who's circling them so I've learned to boost away from them when they're fighting close quarters.

I love this game like I've only loved 2 or 3 others in my life and I want to play it for a hundred hours at least but I'm on console so Ryana's voice is what will stop me. If I could mod it out with literally any other voice or noise at all. The way she pronounces "ay" and "ee" sounds is like you've asked someone if they like having their mouth full of coriander and they make theat "errrrrrr" sound. Like they're going to vomit. That's what Ryana's voice sounds like to me constantly. "You better stayeh theyeh and plehhh narce Cap-tin"

Mechwarrior... old x-box titles... as far as I know Mechwarrior has not come out on xbox other then 5

Another non-linear game who's DLC focuses on a linear campaign, you know, instead of what makes the game actually good, content and features that add to a non linear game :/

I still hope for a remastered bundle of the original MechWarrior for DOS, the MechWarrior 2 trilogy, and MechWarrior 3/Pirate's Moon so that I can be play them all again on a modern PC. I know it'll never happen...but a boy can dream.

Great game. What frustrates me though is the lack of the battle lines moving on the map. So, im playing on career but i feel there is no goal. Earn money. Buy bigger mechs. Im playing on XBox series X. I have all the DLC. I imagine there is a mod on PC to create a dynamic map. I sacked Goblin. I got rid of him for a 59 pilot. I miss his banter 😂 'God help you if you picked a heavy mech' 😂 Yup a 100 tonner is sloooooow. Most missions I will use a Hunchback with a gauss and give the rest of the team the assault mechs.

Mech Warrior 3 will always be far superior to MW5 in my mind. MW5 just doesn't have the mechs feel like MECHS. Heavy weapons of war.

its a good game. but playing it without mods is just... i dunno. i mean the AI improvement mod alone makes it so much better. enemy mechs regrouping, hiding behind cover and running away when overwhelmed just makes the basegame look unfinished.

All the comments about nostalgia for the Mechwarrior games of the 90's...how many people even know about Mechwarrior Online? It's been around ten years but is still a very active community, all the giant stompy robot action you could ask for and free to play.

Pretty much all this games short comings are fixed with Mods , Lack of Mission variety? "Coyotes mission pack" Subpar weapon sounds? " Khornes Soundpack" seriously the Ac20 sounds like a fucking freight train ,lackluster customization? "YAML" fuck around with engine cores ,types of armor, gyros ,sensors and other misc equipment

I would have paid the same cost for JUST a map pack of 12 new maps.

Top notch review. The explanation on the dlc honestly sold it for me, I will be picking that up to add to the game. I’ve always enjoyed battle tech 5 mercenaries, but you are totally right when you say it was missing something. Knowing now how much gets added kind of makes me feel silly for not bothering to look at the available DLCs
