Awesome video! Going into racing and didn’t realize how many regulations there are with the smallest things (2 inch clearance over your helmet is one I didn’t know about until your video)
Might try calling the manufacturer first and ask them if it's actually designed into it to relieve stress on the machine so the bucket fails before the boom does.
Can you film a demonstration?
Next time I can - had to hold my phone and couldn’t do it 1 handed.
Are you charging the customer while you are making video ?
lol seriously? 60 second video, at $120 an hour is $2… I think you’re missing the point here 😂 It’s a bid - whether I take 12 hours or 12 days price is the same. It’s the only way I can make sure I am not under a time crunch and I can stop and think about the best ways to do things. When you’re in a rush it’s never your best work.
@@thejourneyretold I only ask because I'm trying to gauge how many operators are spending time shooting video while charging T&M. Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I have a feeling far too many. I don’t really like T&M because I always feel like I have to go as fast as possible because I try to save people money - then as you know, when you go fast mistakes happen…and sometimes those can be really bad. So I pay people by the hour because they’re incentivized to go slow - and slow is safer and easier on equipment. Little backwards from how most do it, but I sleep well at night so that’s good enough for me
@@thejourneyretold Back in the day some customers would pay us extra for getting photos or video of the job. I find it highly interesting to watch how multi-media blends with construction. We rarely took pictures, and the inspectors had to come out for every single inspection. Now it can all be done, from a phone. There are many positive aspects that come from so much documentation. If I wasn't retired I would charge about 250 - 500 for a video of a decent size remodel. There's a niche..
Got it. So make the pothole bigger first. Understood.
Bingo
People bitch and complain about the right way not being fast in the moment, but it’s faster in the long-run.
110% and it’s cheaper too!
@@thejourneyretold amen
Now if you could only teach the DOT crews that.
lol dude seriously right?!??
They do what they can with what they’re given. You’d be surprised how difficult they make it to fix roads.
@mikeznel6048 the amount of paperwork and legal stuff alone is insane.
What did you do about the steering shaft bolts? I had to switch from 8mm bolt to 1/4. I tried for hours before giving in to using 1/4 bolt and a tiny bit of slop
What steering shaft bolts? The pinch bolt at the bottom of the steering shaft where it goes onto the splined shaft of the ST rack? I just use an OEM one there
I put it in the dash by mistake and now it says check key so I don't know what to do now
I did the same - put a cigarette lighter / 12v outlet there and just zip tie the key/key receiver under the dash. It’ll work great. 👍🏻😎
@@thejourneyretold I tried it but it doesn't turn on it keeps saying the same check key
I wonder if the electrical connector came unplugged? Where is the key mounted at now? Go on the MaverickForun and make a post in the X3 section asking about it - it’ll be a lot easier because you can post pics too
hey, well, this same dash and it doesn't turn on, how could you turn it on, I need help, please.
Where is your key mounted? Is it in the dash?
That’s a good idea. Crazy what you think of when every second counts.
Literally this would’ve been the difference between 5th and 7th at our last race if we could’ve saved 1min off each fill up! lol so I had to come up with something! October is the next race so we will test is out! 👍🏻😎
Are you able to keep the OEM wheels with the Wilwood upgrade? Thx
I’m not sure - I honestly doubt it. If you go online you should be able to find a wheel fitment guide though.
Thank you
What mower head is that?
US MOWER - EX60 - works awesome!
What mower head is that?
US MOWER - EX60 - works awesome!
Are you running stock master cylinder and brake lines?
Yup correct
Why did you replace your kryptonite ball joints for keller ball joints?
Actually I only did the bottom ones because they came with the lower control arms I bought. The uppers are still kryptonite because they’re a nightmare to replace. So even though the boots are still broken, I just grease them after each ride with 1-2 pumps of fresh grease and clean up the old. So far I’ve got 1500-2000 miles like this and they’re still going strong. Once I get a chance I’ll replace them with the Keller ones though because those are so easy to rebuild
Thanks for this, it really helped us out.
Glad it helped! It’s long but I tried to be thorough. Most people hate these racks, but with care they last a LONG time. So far I’ve got 5,000 miles on mine and she feels like new!
They're not rebuilt, they're replaced ball joint big difference.
I replaced the wear items - this typically constitutes a rebuild - I didn’t replace the housing and cap etc like I would’ve with a full replacement
Awesome video! Do you know if they will clear the stock rims?
Definitely not the stock 14’s, but I think the XRC comes with 15s and if that’s what you have then they MIGHT. But best to look on their site for wheel figment :)
I dig it!!!
Same! Just the right sound!
We have the same ball joints in ours. I put them in our factory arms when it was new, have since transferred them to the S3 arms. One less thing to have to worry about during the race. A quick pump of grease during race prep is a good trade off for piece of mind!
They’re definitely worth the money IF you’re going to be hard on things - OR if you just want to ensure it’s one less thing to fail! I just wish they were less maintenance…then again I’ve been known to go a little overboard on caring for things lol
@@thejourneyretold Ive got 3 races and 2 wheeling trips on them, took them apart to check on them, original grease I put in still looked great. I am also bad about over maintenance on things haha. my wheel bearing get greased after ever race/ride, and my oil gets changed after every race!
@ApexOverland where are you racing at?? Always looking for more places to go have fun!
@@thejourneyretold Its in the CORS series here on the east coast
Thanks dude
You bet man - this dash is seriously awesome and probably my favorite modification yet! lol
Good thing nobody was coming the other way
Agreed
Is that the road to love lake?
Honestly idk where that is? 🤷🏼♂️
MERICA YEE YEE BROTHER ❤❤❤❤❤
Love how this project is coming along!
Looks great sounds great glad to see it running great 👍😁. Hey brothaa, where did you get the hose adapter plate that replaced the stock oil cooler ?
Thanks man! It’s an oil cooler block off plate from ZRP :)
Thanks 👍. Also, did you have to run more oil to fill the system and also how does it not come out of the dipstick being lower then the cooler? Thanks in advance
Looks good, glad to hear things worked out for you.
Definitely worked out perfectly :)
Awesome, did this work for you? The engine works better? I have pretty the same project but not sure if it affects the engine as it will run “cooler”
It did exactly what I wanted - helped everything run cooler. It has a lot lower coolant temps now and oil temps stay in the perfect temp range too. It works really well!
Crazy how far this has come
Thanks man! Really trying to create the best do-all buggy! 😎👍🏻 trying to make something I’m proud of!
Hyacam
MAVBUSA🤙
Those connectors are pulled to seat terminals come out the front of the connector instead of the back
Is there a special tool to get them out? Thought there was a little tab or something I had to depress?
@@thejourneyretold there is a special tool and it is inserted into the back of the connector and as you push it in the terminal comes out the front of the connector which most people don't crimp the terminals on Intel they have already put their split room or heat shrink etc.
Looks good!!! Definitely have your hands full!
We are getting there - lot bigger project than I thought it’d be! lol but worth it
Exploring? Or Racing and dusting?
Both! We found a cool fire tower and hiked out there - video will be coming soon!
Good job I plan to get a rxr or any side by side I would love to mod em looks fun.
Thank you! It was a lot of fun - the cooler definitely made a bid difference in temps and gave me a lot of confidence to push it harder!
Hey Bro just wanna thank you for all those awesome informational videos! Great work! And your attention to detail👌🍻. Quick question when your welding all those gussets what mig wire are you running 0.30 or 0.24? Because I know can ams are made out of tin can material. And im kinda sketched out blowing thru it with 0.35?
Thank you! I appreciate that - I know they can be a little boring and in-depth, but trying to teach people HOW TO THINK takes a lot of words and time. Most are decent fabricators with a little practice, but thinking through the smallest details is something people seem to lack so I’m trying to share what I can! I used both 035 to start and ate the rest of that spool and it didn’t weld as nice so I stepped down to the 030 and she worked way better. X3 is DEFINITELY thin - focus most of your heat into your gusset vs the X3 tubes :)
I should clarify, I’m talking 0.035 inches and 0.030 inches 😎👍🏻
Awesome thanks for the input I'll make I'll switch mire wire to 0.30! And again I appreciate your videos bro! Can't wait to see new project to swap out that x3 engine and run that sportbike engine! Your a sharp dude Im shure your gonna nail it!
@foester04 yea for sure man happy to help! thank you for the encouragement! Idk if I’ll nail it, but are going to give it a solid try. An 80” wide x3 with 300hp revs to 10-11,000 rpm and has 4wd with paddle shifters is the goal - been dreaming about that for several years now! lol
Which pads of wilwood have you test?
So far only the racing ones that came with my brakes. Been about 2k miles and I still have a LOT of pad left! Working on trying to get a set of rear brakes so I can give an updated review - I think it might make the car feel a little more stable under braking but we shall see
amazing work!
Thank you! I’m just trying to do my best and do work that I’m proud of! So stoked to get to the races to see how it does this year!
@@thejourneyretold same! its been fun building mine as well
@ApexOverland idk why, but I’m still shocked at how much of a money pit these things are 😂
@@thejourneyretold Yeah doesnt take long for the numbers to add up. Every race something has to get fixed or changed out afterwards haha
A lot of the time if the threads are clean and no burs you can jack it up where the tires are off the ground. Then loosen the top lock ring and spin the whole spring either left or right whatever way you are adjusting and the nut will turn with it.
That trick does work well! - unfortunately my shocks are slightly used and that no longer works lol
@@thejourneyretold I feel that I’ve only done it on a sport bike and dirtbike. Im going to adjust mine on my x3 sometime this week. Im hopefully going to be able to spin the spring on mine and adjust it fingers crossed.
@@Tinman_258use a decent amount of WD40 and that’ll definitely help 😎👍🏻
400
Nice reasonable amount. I was thinking 300. Curious how long the trans in the Busa will hold up for lol
On the hump nice
That looks like pnw
;)
Can-am is junk , unless they changed the gears and put carbon steel in and got rid of the plastic gears ..!
Hell yea man!
Dupli color engine paint Chevrolet orange DE1620 in rattle can matches perfect to can am red if interested love your work looks great !
DUDE YOU’RE AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!!! Thank you!!!
Pressure washers are the secret soil powertool.
Great idea on the list and that’s quite the selection of tools.
Since we are sometimes 100+ miles away from help I want to make sure that I have a chance to fix whatever I need to. Always try to be prepared!
Have no idea how but ive been waiting for this swap.. Maybe a non moving primary designed like the secondary that just turns and doesn't shift like the cvt.. Just an idea.
Thank you! I’ve actually had this swap in mind for 3 years now and have had the engine even to do it. Unfortunately my shop was smashed and out everything on pause 2 WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT THE ENGINE! I’ll go into the details in an upcoming video and talk about my plans. I like your idea about the non-moving clutches - I never thought about that. I was considering a belt style setup like a nitro drag bike that uses a cogged blower belt. But your idea might be better because I could make the clutches adjustable for an adjustable ratio? Wonder what would happen to a CVT setup if I shifted the gears? Lol
Subscribe and help me figure this thing out! lol
@@thejourneyretold I've been subbed 😎👍
@@thejourneyretold Check out Harley Davidson drive belt systems to. They handle tons of HP and look like a side mounted blower supercharger lol.
@chrisgoetz3889 yea I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, but always been worried about “wasting the money” and finally I decided that it would be a super fun project and the Mav R is kind of a let down so I will make my own X1300. lol Going to use a different X3 - not the race car. We use it WAY too much. Step 1 is going to be get the Busa engine running to make sure it still works, then I’ll pickup another X3 and swap it, once we prove the idea then I want to turbo it and make it paddle shift like a Radical SR3. Should be super cool!…or we will grenade the Busa transmission almost instantly 😂
I feel like we've missed a critical change in direction from the gusset project. Same x3 or a different machine getting the busa powertrain?
lol no no - I’m not tearing this thing apart - planning on buying a second one to swap the Busa engine into. I love this X3 way too much - currently have almost 7k miles on it and aiming for 10k by the end of the year. :) glad SOMEONE is paying attention!! Lol first step though, get the hayabusa engine running and THEN I’ll shop for another X3… I’ll do a video about the whole idea/plan in a week or two though. :)
Hey mate just came across your video recently and I have to say thanks iv just got myself a can am x3 that I’m also building for racing but I’m from Australia so it’s awesome to see how we are both doing it keep up the good content 🇦🇺👍🏼
Hey man glad to help!!! I know some of my videos are a little long winded, but I want to make sure I give as much info as I can! :)
Am I having dejavue? 😂
Haha dude it was 10 straight weeks of welding and cutting and madness! Hahah
