Giganti Rapier Book 2 Flow drill
Просмотров 1704 месяца назад
Our sword school had a 6 week workshop going through Giganti's second Book. We created a flow drill that incorporates a few of the plays from the book. Please note, the Leg parry and Riposte needs to be done in one tempo, but for the sake of making it flow, we turned it into a two tempi action.

2024 MSS HEMA Atlantic Canadian Regionals Rapier Final

I haven't posted about winning Silver at the MSS Atlantic Regionals yet. As proud as I am as a coach, I’ve been facing some personal challenges as a fencer. For years, I’ve been dealing with a nerve issue in my right arm that causes it to go completely numb after about 8 rounds. Determined not to let it stop me, I spent 8 months training my left arm for the tournament. However, things didn't go...

Gear Review: Gabriel 2.0
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
Taking a look at the hottest new five finger glove! The Gabriel 2.0! We've been using it at the school for 2 months now. Edit: I spoke about the the Gabriel being more protective than the Pro G, and I would like to redact that statement. Granted the side of the fingers are also a weakness of the Pro G, sadly the gaps in the Gabriel 2.0 make them worse in terms of protection. After looking into ...

It seems the kendo defense is pretty gud. But the kendo offense is pretty predictable, always going for the head. While the hema dude is ok and versatile at both defense and offense.
Are these the same as the SF Clamshell Gloves 2.0 which are on Supfen's own website?
Yessir! that's them!
This is not the third generation. This is a model of gloves that was stolen from me. It is called the Black Knight of HF Armory. Don't throw your money away. Buy gloves made by a fencer, not gloves copied from a photo
$375 is way too much. Even $290 for the basic is steep. The blackfencer is under $250.
Black Fencers can sometimes cost slightly more for us in Canada, due to exchange rates, duty, and shipping rates. However, we did order two of those to test out for our next video!!
What’s rattling? The blade against the cross or the blade against the shell?
So it’s $100 more than an hf armory rapier, has no blade presence and it rattles. I think Castile has lost its place as the go to economy option
We have a few Hf armoury eco rapiers in our loaner swords, and I would always choose the Castille ones over those. They are either too heavy tip weighted, or too light because they are epee blade version, and on top of that, I'm not a fan of the skinny handles.
@ the epee bladed ones are awful but I disagree that the standard blade is too tip heavy, they have good blade presence and are monumentally more affordable
@@Tacklebox3000 perhaps the ones we got were a bad batch :( I'll give them another go sometime, I've been eyeing their new glove!
It may be cheaper than the older one now, still more than when I got the older one. It does look broader than the older one (and they both seem to have length choice now). Being that the knuckle bow is so spaced out, if one hacks off the bottom of it, Thibault can be cheated and retain a the knuckle bow with his grip.
How did it hold up over time? Any bad denting or issues?
I ended up selling it because i started doing HEMA more than SCA. It ended up holding up well far as I know, people still swear by these.
Boring
How have they been holding up?
Any chance you guys could check if they fit in a kvetun easton saber? Would love to know, thanks.
Martinez Sandra Davis Mark Brown Mary
Thanks for the review, could you do a long term review in a few months? What weapons do you train with? I have the older pair and i train saber, not sure if id risk longsword with them
Useful.
This is like watching two different animals fight. One keeps moving in and out and circling like a wolf, and the other one dead still waiting to pounce like a wild cat.
How would these compare to the Purpleheart version which seems to have more coverage according to the photo?
I believe the purpleheart gloves are a version older than these. They also have unique customizations that make their glove look slightly different
When did you get these? I got mine in June and they have the pinky padding and better back plate but no knuckle bow
We just got these this month!
Am I a weirdo for having watched this 8 times?
I enjoyed watching this, I respect both ways very much and would very much love to find a place to study both I've done mostly hand to hand stuff for about 20 years but have never had much exposure to weapon based arts like this it would be a fun new adventure despite getting older
was it 6-4 Kendo vs Hema?
Warden vs Kensei in For Honor
where did they find this kendo guy? His skill is so bad. It seems like he is still in Kyu level, not even a 1st Dan.
The duality of fullbodyarmored fighters and a ref in a rainbow shirt and crocs... I love it^^
The movent is flawless
Does people know that kendo practicers have a very limited way of scoring contrary to any swordsman? Kendo practicers of new are very restricted but even than they can win kenjutsu, batodo and iaijtsu practicers?
Kendo target areas make sense: - From the geometry of the body, your best reach is at about shoulder height thus face and neck. - The most shallow target is the wrist. - The deepest meaningful target is the liver. The original formulation of kendo was based on a double tap strategy shotachi (kiritsuke) - ni no tachi (kirioroshi) strategy. The first cut (kiritsuke) ruins the opponents ability to fight either by flinch reflex or ruining the eyes (face), ruining their breath (face or neck), disarming them (wrist), or ruining their posture (liver or spleen through the core). The second cut (kirioroshi) optionally finishes the fight. We tend to compare kendo to first blood duelling styles e.g. sport epee and sabre with unbounded target areas, and to HEMA styles which adhere to "cut without being cut" as a validation mechanism for interpretations of historical techniques. Realistically some targets are better than others.
Based on my observation. Kendo emphasizes spacing while Longsword school focuses on angles. Kendo has more non-restricted footwork because the power of the strikes are generated by the whole upper body. This allows for quick and snappy single edged attacks that takes the quickest path to the target. Longsword school has lead foot and back foot because longsword attacks leverages on footwork, the upper body needs to be flexible in order to make twisting strikes at unpredictable angles.
Nice video.
They go for well over $2k now. Awesome looking sword.
While this isnt flashy, it has to be one of the most intense swordfights i have ever seen
It’s really unfair the kendo sword is vastly lighter and has to be faster
Kendo doesn't have so many finesse techniques where the weight difference is noticeable. For a point to count you have to strike with your back, with your hips, and with your feet, the arms should not be used.
Both of them have an immaculately clean technique. It's like a work of art that you can watch.
Darth Vader would whoop both in a matter of seconds or an Ottoman Janissary!
Whon won?
Phil swift? Now thats a lota damage!
Hey Phill Swift im not making fun of you so please dont fly to cali. Dude you look like a crazy person named "Crazy locs"! Its wild how much you look like him. Crazy Locs also thinks hes a fighting which is literally why I clicked this video. I thought you were him at a glance. Stay up bro dont Hema slam me.
Lol!! I'm not even mad, I do look like him haha
Bro is this in Newfoundland?
Now get someone to use an actual koryu against HEMA. Kendo is not made for "fighting"
This'll be a great flow drill!
I don't know It kind of look like the kendo guy one
Народ, а что за шлем у бойца кендо?
Bro voice went from Kendo athlete 2:27 to a Sekiro enemy 2:31
Can you take them apart? For repairs and such? Can the thumb be taken off? Can you wash the textile base glove? Is it natural fabric or leather or some sort of synthetic? TY!
I feel like wilson is at a major disadvantage here. I mean theres no chance he could win the bind with that sword.
You dont have to shout random bullshit with HEMA. Clearly its superior. Cuz otherwise they seemed pretty equal to me.
Hema fighter definitely adapted from the last fight he uses more “master strikes” (I think that’s what they’re called I’m unsure as I do kendo) and the kendoka used lots of renzoku waza (repeated cuts) one thing I was surprised about was the lack of do (cuts to the stomach) as in a lot of other kendo vs other marital art videos it’s used relatively frequently as it’s quite easy to feint from men(cut to the head) and I think other weapon based martial arts aren’t as used to it
The kendoka was having a bit of trouble judging the distance on some of his cuts perhaps due to him not being able to use seme (I’m not sure how you spell it) and the Hema fighters more varied footwork
Should specify I meant couldn’t use seme as effectively (couldn’t push or directly manipulate his opponents blade) and I think the hema fighter wasn’t used to zanshin (how the kendoka moves away after cutting) or in the way in which he could follow up cuts
Also in part 2 I think the kendoka had trouble responding to master strikes (I’m not sure that’s what they’re called I’m a kendoka) and by repeated cuts I mean renzoku cuts
Also in part 2 I think the kendoka had trouble responding to master strikes (I’m not sure that’s what they’re called I’m a kendoka) and by repeated cuts I mean renzoku cuts
