You will love FTT, it's a great program! Regardless of if you know your concentration yet, taking the required courses right off the bat usually is a good plan. I am a film concentration but took Intro to Theatre freshmen year (a req for the theatre concentration), and it actually got me a part-time job in the costume shop and served as a pre-req for a lot of cool classes I discovered in later semesters! If you're thinking about the TV or Film concentrations, Basics of Film/TV is a great option for first semester freshmen, and all of the professors who teach it are really good. There is really a lot of flexibility in the department to tailor your schedules to be whatever you are interested in (mainly your concentration or a mix of all three). So excited to have you join our FTT family!!

@@elizabethmaroshick2561 Thank you so much! I was actually going to ask about Basics of Film/TV because there is a lab that corresponds with the class that conflicts with Marching Band during the fall. How should I go about that?

The band directors are really understanding of class conflicts with weekly rehearsals, you just have to fill out a form saying that you'll be missing rehearsals on a certain day for a lab. However, for Basics, the lab materials (at least my freshman year) were also available online, so you didn't actually have to go to the lab in person if you didn't want to/had a conflict. Of course, I realized this after I had been running out of band 15 minutes early every Monday all season, but it is an option lol!! Hope that helps!

That’s so exciting yay! You will get some music over the summer so I highly suggest just really practicing enough to get all of the pieces (they’re very short) pretty much memorized so it’s one less thing you have to worry about at band camp. When you do the actual audition, returning band members will be playing with you as you march though, so the playing doesn’t have to be perfect right from day 1. Band camp is always very exhausting but VERY fun so just be prepared to work really hard and meet a lot of awesome new people!:)

Like I responded to in a previous comment, I didn't mean for my reactions to sound as though I was unaware of Adam's theatre background, nor do I think he is untalented at all, I just didn't love the specific way he played the character. I still really love him as an artist and theatrical performer, I just thought the way he portrayed his character didn't match the vibe of the show overall. To clarify, I really did think he did a great job (and is SUPER talented) and I am aware that he has some fantastic musical theatre credits/background, all of the cast just had so much experience that I figured I would mention the ones most viewers would probably recognize him for, but I’m sorry if that came across as being unaware of his full background! I think it’s great that he was involved with this and he certainly brought a lot of star power/extended fan base to the event, I just personally would’ve maybe preferred to see the character of Emile played a little closer to the way it was in the animated film, seeing as most of the other actors seemed to take this approach. However I totally see where you’re coming from, and I do think actors adding their own creative spunk to change up a role is a great thing, I just personally thought it was a bit odd that he was the only one in the cast that seemed to do so. I might’ve liked to see him in a different role or maybe as a host or something so that he could bring all of his talent, energy, and fan base to the production and support the cause, just in a different way than by portraying the character of Emile. IMO, Adam was responsible for raising a lot of this money. His fan base and net worth are larger than all the other actors combined. In addition, Adam has raised millions of dollars to save or improve lives from the start of his career, he has spoken publicly and marched for equal rights, even during a pandemic, and now he has his own foundation.

I think she was just talking about how Adam’s interpretation of Emile was a bit jarring. But I don’t mind that he changed that character for this adaptation.

That's so awesome, you got this!! The band program has honestly been one of the best things about my college experience at ND, so I can't recommend it enough! The people are absolutely lovely and the directors of all the groups are so encouraging and talented! The marching band definitely requires the most hours out of your week (4-6 days/week), but the concert and jazz bands are usually 2 days/week, and hockey/basketball bands are 1-2 days/week (with flexibility). Being a part of the music program is definitely a lot of hard work, but it is also so incredibly fun and rewarding and you will absolutely will be glad you did it! The sax section specifically is also such a tight knit group and would LOVE to have you join in future years! The music program outside of the band program is also fantastic at ND and while I'm not personally involved too much in it, I have only heard great things! So glad to hear your interested in ND and music! Go Irish!:)

Yes they do! In my dorm, the quads all have two small doubles connected with a small common room (there are about 4 quads on each floor). Other dorms have some different configurations and rooms with even up to 6 people, so there are definitely ones with common areas!!

For your freshmen year you are assigned a random roommate in a random dorm but then after that you are allowed to switch roommates/dorms if you would like! This sounds kinda scary at first, but I seriously met my best friends through random roommates so it really does work out!
