    I have a question does removing the vitreous change the shape of the eye and change your prescription or even possibly make it better to where you don’t need your glasses anymore

    • @hklaschka
      @hklaschka 14 дней назад

      Vitrectomy surgery does not change the shape of the eye. In people with previous cataract surgery, the refractive is minimal. In patients who have not had cataract surgery there is a high probability that they will develop a progressive cataract and this will result in increased myopia. They would be more likely to need glasses.

    All hospitals and medical centers should produce a video like this for their patients preparing for vitrectomy. I have gotten more information from your video than I have for my own doctor's office, and I'm in Boston going to a very renowned hospital. This video has made me a bit more comfortable in anticipation of my own surgery. Thank you.

    My eye burns like there’s soap in it while the medication is being put into my eye. Lots of freezings used as told by nurse I am wondering, I do not get my eye cleaned per se by that brown and septic liquid. The doctor drips it into my eye after the deadening medication dabs the corner of my eye, and then injects my medication. Is that why my eye would be burning will be because the antiseptic is actually on my eye perhaps being pushed into my eye along with the medication? It’s so bad I leave with a bad headache and nausea, look forward to your answer for help. Thank you.

    Did anyone who had a vitrectomy have to take atropine sulfate drops twice per day after your surgery? These are the drops that dilate your pupil. I had to take this along with two other drops after my surgery on March 9, 2024. The surgery went well and on my follow up on March 18, my ophthalmologist told me to stop taking all of the drops except one. It’s been ten days since I’ve taken the atropine drops but my pupil is still dilated. I don’t know if it’s too soon to be worried. My gas bubble hasn’t shrunk enough to know if my vision is better yet; I had a detached retina. My next follow up isn’t for another three weeks. I can call them but I was wondering if anyone else had to take atropine drops after their surgery.

      @@benedettocracolici197 Thank you much, Benedetto. I had to have a vitrectomy because of vitreal hemorrhage due to a botched repair on a torn retina. The vitrectomy was 12 March 2024. The next day I went back and they took the patch off my eye. I was disappointed that I could not see clearly yet at that time. My eye was left half full of air and half full of saline solution. I could see this line running horizontally across my field of view in that eye. Lol, it seemed like I had a bubble level in my eye. I joked that I could maybe fly an airplane without instruments, as I had my own, built-in 'artificial horizon' or even a 'turn and bank indicator'. 😎 The air bubble was expected to be absorbed by my body and the space filled with natural fluid from my body. The air bubble has gradually moved down as the space is filled with fluid. As of this writing, 17 March, the bubble is all but gone and my vision is nearly as clear as the other eye now. I do still have some black dot floaters in there yet. I'm wondering if they will settle out, as they seem to have the same durn specific gravity as the fluid, and just want to hang there. The surgeon told me to expect to get a cataract in that eye, which I guess is typical. Good luck to you!

      Hello! We reached out to surgeons to find out! On a very high level, it's surgeon-specific and related to medical conditions and complexity. Factors include: is patient from outside of Winnipeg? Would patients prefer to stay? Are patients able to position themselves properly after surgery (if positioning is required). Some surgeons offer all patients the opportunity to stay overnight or go home.

I have heard that the iodine solution used to sanitize the area around the eye really stings, even when they use a saline solution to wash most of the iodine solution away after the injection. Some iodine solution lingers. Should we be concerned with increased pressure within the eye because of the injection?

      Was it terribly painful? How long was the recovery, and did they feel strained?

    • @mackinacisland3825
      @mackinacisland3825 Год назад

      @maybememory1 the first 2 surgeries were not very painful. This one has been remarkably more painful because of the amount of scar tissue the dr had to remove and the fact they had to do a readjustment 3 times after I awoke. I do have a pain management dr who I work with for other issues, so the pain has been controlled, but my dr was ok with writing a prescription for pain meds if needed. Don't be afraid to ask for pain med if u need them. U will recover faster if ur pain is controlled. The first 2 surgeries, I used over-the-counter pain relief medication after day 3. I would ask ur dr for either Tylenol 3 or hydrocodone if u r worried about the pain. Don't hesitate to dm if u have specific questions. I can give u my experience. Good luck.

    I had my first cataract surgery three days ago, and the pre-op process took far longer than the surgery itself---which was only six minutes. I chose to have a propofol IV so that I could be alert much more readily after surgery, and I'm going to choose it again in November, when my other eye is done. Everything I've seen in 2022 states that the actual surgery takes only 5 to 6 minutes, so I don't understand the much longer 10 to 15 minutes in some of these older videos.

    A doctor told me 22 years ago, my vision will be the same after the cataract surgery. Any replays?

      I had cataract surgery just three days ago, and my vision is so hugely improved, I can't even describe it. If your vision is supposedly going to stay the same, what's the point of having the surgery done at all? Why would any responsible eye surgeon offer to do it? The purpose of removing cataracts is to prevent the patient from going blind, which is why the lens is replaced during the surgery. I'd sure be looking for a different ophthalmic surgeon if the first one told me that my vision would be the same post operatively as prior to it!
