Meet some interesting, people along these abandoned rails while you learn a little something about this prototype electric rail cart. It can travel about 25 miles on two 20Ah, 24V Lithium Ion batteries and reach a speed of 15mph (tested).

One of the best things about railbiking is the people you meet along the way. Almost every person will wave you to a stop and ask about "this contraption". These clips represent a sampling of those engagements which reveals a surprising amount of information about Railbiking itself. Enjoy!

Mobius Arch and Alabama Hills

The Alabama Hills are a popular filming location for television and movie productions, especially Westerns set in an archetypical "rugged" environment. Since the early 1920s, 150 movies and about a dozen television shows have been filmed here, including Tom Mix films, Hopalong Cassidy films, The Gene Autry Show, The Lone Ranger and Bonanza. Classics such as Gunga Din, The Walking Hills, Yellow ...

I'm feeling a little more confident with this quad so did some flying over water this morning. There is still some slight jiggle when the quad is traveling over 16 mph. I'm hoping better blades will take care of that.

Bees are attracted to certain rc copters - something about the noise. I always see a few in the picture except dead of winter. Now it's spring and this is a little more than a few. There were actually enough to destabilized the copter for a moment! Hey, just glad to see the little critters making a comeback in California. For the more technically minded - shot with a GoPro3 set to 1080P 60fps i...

      @@fireball2275 This was 2012. ruclips.net/video/Lg__SWgixlk/видео.html I was building my own drones and flew this one into, and out of, a tree. I had to process the heck out of the footage to make it semi-stable :)) So glad DJI came along. But before it was all over for home builders, I sold one of my designs to a security company who is still having them made in Taiwan!! www.nightingalesecurity.com/ They added the "Drone Home" and much better electronics.

    I’m just now getting very interested in rail cycling, and the concept of new adventures via this brilliant idea. Being retired myself, and with the constant iterations of this concept will certainly bring a tremendous following of adventurers from the biking community. Thanks for sharing your conversations, post Sir 😎😇and Happy Rail Cycling 🙏🚵‍♀️🚴🏻👍

      Most welcome. What you build depends on where you want to ride. That's why you are most likely seeing many different designs out there. Some tracks are chock full of weeds and even trees. Others have physical impediments that will derail the best designed bikes. Challenging to say the least, and an indication that your design efforts are never finished :)) Enjoy the ride!

    That's cool - I figured someone must have thought of this. It seems so obvious for filming where you need a lot of time in the air. Do you make it about neutral buoyancy? Can you reverse the motors to pull it back downward, or is that the "if you can bring it back down" part?

    • @peppercat262
      @peppercat262 9 лет назад

      Neutral buoyancy is the goal. This was tethered to obviate that issue. A ballast scheme would be needed or reverse thrust (not a normal multirotor function). Also, this was a very lightweight "toy" multirotor before the days of GoPro and brushless camera gimbals. A balloon specific multirotor and camera platform would be best - start from scratch. I plan on revisiting this once this project photoaire.org/ is completed.
