My 2023 FL5 Type R Buying Experience | Avoid high dealer markups | Tips & Tricks
Waste of money
im in the market to buy an air filter but i dont which one to get there is a lot of options like: Prl, K&N, Sprint, and Spoon. I wanna know which is the best filter to get
They're all similar enough. Sprint and spoon filters are the same. Sprint one just has sprint tax on it. Get whatever is in your budget
2025 civic type r. I'm paying $70 a month full coverage in Tampa Florida. Geico.
Damn even a older used one would still kinda be out of my budget, I really wanted something like this to be my first manual car 😭, cause it’s not too fast not too slow and I really like the interior and. You don’t see many civic type r owners
My guess is they didn’t want to blind people during breaking.
Come on Honda, why not use a port injection like Toyota?
Did you get another recall letter for EPS? Are you planning to record the video for the recall job process?
I did get a letter. Gonna do both recalls at once and hopefully get a vid out
my two cents bro; if that was the oil in your catch can from 600 miles that would be a major issue. The honda techs didn't empty your catch can. Still worth it? I dunno, long term yeah prolly. Not that big of a deal to empty out now and again :)
hey Tin, how's the reach on the new wheel? Is it closer toward you now or bit farther back compared to OEM?
It's a bit further back compared to OEM. I had to adjust my seat a bit to match it. Thanks for watching!
Why don't you get a spacer for it, man? Easy to do and will change the experience.
I test drive both…I’m 39 year old…I’m happy with my blue type R also I got my on msrp but the acura is nice too
That's awesome! Congrats on the purchase!
Just broke the cap to my right tailight… it seems like everyone’s pops off easily but the ones on my fl5 would not come off for the life of me
Noooo. Were you able to put it back on?
@ no haha I had to buy a new taillight.
can fl5 fold down the back seat? is there a roll cage that will improve the handing but prevent people from folding down?❤❤❤
You can fold down the back seats. Roll cages can be put in but the rear seats will be deleted.
Because the suspension is so stiff, my lasfit bulbs back out on its own and had rapid blinking, I had to use electrical tape to secure them. BTW, use hazards to check, no need to turn the car on
I'll check periodically. I have the Integra ADS module so hopefully it doesn't happen to me. Good tip about the hazard lights!
You ever get ticketed for no front plate in VA?
Nope
Can oem fl 5 fix on 2023 si with adapter
Boycott Honda and get a Elantra N for a thousand under MSRP!
How much was the catch can and did you install yourself?
Catch can was about $200. I installed it myself. You can check the installation video on my channel!
Hey man, looking to potentially trade or sell my ‘19 FK8 for a FL5.. depending on if I can sell it outright (privately) or trade in. Looking to lease the FL5. Think it’s worth it and why?
Why are you looking to get an FL5?
@@turbo_tinMaybe less payments and I go through cars every 3 years anyways, lowkey want a ralley red FL5. Thought about trying out a leasing option.
I don't think it's worth it unless you really like the look of the FL5 better. It's essentially the same car. Personally I wouldn't be sucked into another car payment for a few years for basically the same car but newer. All up to you though
Shi mine came from factory. *Laughs in CRZ*
Honda did us dirty with this one 😂
They do that because your brake lights and reverse lights are supposed to just be bright enough to bring awareness as an indicator without blinding drivers. By making them brighter it affects those around you. They aren’t supposed to give you an x -ray.
Exactly. People are retarded. Literally one guy said it makes the “reverse light usable” as if it’s a flashlight
in my opinion, the trunk led light doesnt do enough to see your trunk at night.
Might just be the lighting but it is much better than the OEM light. Thanks for watching!
I’ve done this in my fk8 and fl5. It is brighter. But I agree it’s still not enough. Honda should have spent 5$ more and put a light on both sides.
Is that the oem cf wing?
This is the Seibon wing. It's based off the OEM CF wing but with black weave instead of red
@@turbo_tin awesome man, looks good from that angle, any more clips showing the wing from different angles by chance?
I'll post a short for it soon!
@@turbo_tin 🔥🔥
The oem carbon one looks a lot better imo. If you decide to go that route use college hills Honda. They have the cheapest real oem stuff.
Similar feeling with our brand new 2024 RAV4 Hybrid XLE. Full of tech, all LED lights all around including headlights. Except turn signals. BTW those are regular incandescent bulbs, not halogen (like headlight bulbs). So I put LASFIT bulbs in my RAV4 turn signals like the first day we got it. Also have them in my 2014 CX5. They work great and no changes needed to the flasher unit in the car.
Ty for the correction. I still can't believe car makers don't go full LEDs in this day and age. The bulbs can't cost that much more haha
@@turbo_tin the only thing I don't like about integrated LED units is that it gets REALLY expensive when part of it fails. I almost feel like we need standardized LED bulbs, but keep the light assemblies as bulb-based instead of integrated.
Thanks for the video! Been debating whether to change out the rear lights on my fl5
Thanks for watching. These are definitely worth it!
This vid will be handy when I buy a used CTR in 2035 when they drop below 40k on the used market.
Hopefully the current owner change them for you 😂. Thanks for watching!
You forgot about the drift tax that will be in effect when 2035 comes around.
They should hold value when there are no more gas turbo Rs being made in 2035
👍👍
Thanks for watching!
LOLLLLLLLLL do you actually know or have seen your valves to even know? That's not even your own valves. Use proper oil and know how unique Honda K20C1 engines are before wasting money on catch cans. Show us your valves before you assume catch can is needed. You've never taken of the manifold huh ;-)
Acura Integra Type S looks waaaaay better especially speaking of bodylines!
Totally a personal opinion 😄.I think it's an attractive car as well!
Rims width vs min & max tyre width should be discussed
Replace the seat and ask to keep the old one, i have a feeling like all the older honda stuff, in the future simple things like seats, and dealer installed accessories will be worth serious cash.
They only replace the rails so no new seats are being installed
I didn't think the Honda's were susceptible to carbon build up compared to other European makes.
It's fine to not run one if it's a daily. I put it on for peace of mind since I'll be tracking it. Thanks for watching!
Shenny one of my favorite circuits - ran my FK8 there. Glad you are tracking yours - comes alive!
Came alive it did. Thanks for watching!
There is no better day than a track day thats for sure. Do change the fluid though. and specially if you think there was any chance that you boiled the fluid already, once it boils its not good. Id do SRF just because you can keep it in the car for a year, other fluids they rec you change every 6 months. Stock pads probably fine on some tracks and some drivers but good to upgrade, at least the fronts. Don't get super annoyed about point bys, I get it I wanted to be there and get the best times and pass people but at the end of the day everyone is there to have fun. It really depends on who is there, sometimes you think intermediate or advanced will be better with pointbys but they can not be. I have had really good novice group with everyone doing point bys and then intermediate where a couple people never gave point bys, I just pull in the pit and ask for space. Oh also tape your wheel weights or they might also fall off and that is way more annoying than the caps cuz you have to get wheels rebalanced.
Good point about the wheel weights. I will do that for the next track day. Appreciate your advice!
How’s the winter snow drive?
I didn't drive it too much in the winter, especially if it's snowing since I'm on summer tires. When it's warmer out (~50F), it's totally fine
Does anybody know what is the best 20mm spacers brand for my 2023 fl5?
I've heard good things about the bonoss spacers
Hey man great meeting you there. I had the other Boost Blue, we talked Sunday morning. Regarding the SCCA yearly membership, it renews one year from whenever you sign up and does not go by calendar year. Also, the Work 2 Get 1 free day doesn't have to be used the next weekend. They're pretty lax about it and you can use it whenever, and as far as I know it doesn't expire and can be transferred to friends/family. They have your registration history to look at it anyway. For the poor point bys from that GTI, I would definitely bring that up to your instructor, classroom instructor, or the event coordinators on the day of next time. With novice, they may be more cautious especially if the instructor is more nervous and it being your first ever track day. It generally is a lot better in intermediate in my experience, having both driven and observed both while flagging. Another thing you can do is pit in if it keeps happening, indicate with your hands that you're searching for a gap, and you'll be sent back out. The center caps melting off is like a rite of passage haha. Made the same mistake my first track day 2 years ago. Glad to see you decide on SRF, definitely utilize that FCPEuro lifetime replacement policy to keep costs down for you. You and that Camaro were killing it in novice, and I truly did see insane progression from Saturday to Sunday. I am planning to drive Main or Dominion as of right now, broken leg healing dependent. If not, I definitely will be flagging and collecting some more days for next season.
It was nice meeting you man. I did raise the issue to my instructor as well as during the class and it seemed to have improved in the later sessions, which was a nice bonus at the end. Best of luck with your injury. Thanks for watching!
Welcome to the real fun!
See you soon. 🫡🫡
Paragon R3’s or R5’s are a good value. Don’t worry about the brake light warning. Also, as long as you keep the engine stock you shouldn’t have issues with engine temps. I just posted my last track day video on my channel in 90+ degree weather and no issues with temps for me. Hopefully you go out to more events, I’m happy you have completed your first event safely!!!!
I'll check out the paragons. Thanks for the rec. I saw your last vid last week. I'll definitely go to more events next year!
@@turbo_tinYou’re welcome man, thanks for watching my video!!
Great content, Tin! Cheers 🍻 Just curious, have you done any research on purchasing safety equipment for track days? IE, 4 or 6 point harness, a HANS device, harness bar for the FL5 etc.
Hey Scott. Thanks for watching! I've done some research into the safety equipment. Planning on getting a HANS device soon as well as a cage and harness in the future.
thanks for sharing your experience on your first track day.
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching!
after a yr since this video , any issues occurred with the hardwire? I got a 23 sport touring
No issues so far
@@turbo_tin how is the car battery going so far? I am thinking to hardwire it too but not so sure should I get a dash cam battery or not... I normally park my car at work in an indoor carpark for like 8-10 hours for 5 days a week. But I may not drive long enough to fully recharge the external battery
Do I need a catch can on my type s . Just bought it weeks ago and it’s sitting till I get it ppf or wrapped . Want to get all I need while it’s paused .
It's not necessary. A nice to have for sure
Do I need a catch can on my type s . Just bought it weeks ago and it’s sitting till I get it ppf or wrapped . Want to get all I need while it’s paused .
Just found your channel. I've been thinking about buying an 2024 or 25 integra type S but decided to compare to the honda type R to see if it's worth saving a few dollars. First, do you mind that neither comes with a sunroof, and have you compared the two cars? Also, it's been awhile since i've had a manual car, any concerns? Thanks for any help?
Thanks for watching! I did a comparison video between the two before. Regarding the sunroof, I don't mind that they don't come with one. It's a track car. Sunroofs just add more weight. If you're looking for a comfortable car to daily, I'd get the ITS. The CTR has less noise insulation so it's louder. The manual transmission in these are buttery smooth. You'll have no issue
@@turbo_tin Just saw it! Wow! I didn't take that into consideration. Extra dealer markup and the carbon fiber. Well, that's not going to happen LOL Thanks!
10 k miles before oil change is insane
Indeed. 5k from now on
hey man, how is your awe touring holding up? im reading a lot of people post on reddit about the slip on clamps coming loose over time and various issues causing rattling. would u say thats just a bad installation? thanks!
It's holding up just fine. I don't have any loose clamps or anything
I love the sound of awe, wish they made an active version for those times in back out of the garage at 4 am lol
A valve would be so nice
do you still have them. ? how are they holding up after a year. ?
Still have them. They're holding up just fine!
Helpful video. I was preparing for the installation of the barb fittings to be a Festivus-level feat of strength but it was not hard. Oil both ends with motor oil and apply pressure. No vice required. If it is too hard, give it to your wife to finish it for you 😂
Glad it helped! Still looking for the aforementioned wife 😂
I've heard a lot of people mention that the cabin noise in the FL5 is quite noticeable. What are your thoughts on this issue? Do you have any insights or comments on it? Thanks in advance.
Hey there, Cabin noise in the FL5 is definitely something to be worry about if you're looking for a daily driver. It doesn't have as much noise insulation as regular civics so they're on the louder side. You'll definitely get more NVH in this. Hopes that helps
@@turbo_tin Thank you. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to test drive the car. In Sweden, the only option is to place an order, which isn't ideal when you're looking for a daily driver. It's frustrating because you might end up with something that bothers you after purchase.
In that case I would recommend test driving the FK8. They be similar in that regard
