Novag Diamond II - Introduction

This is the Novag Diamond II from 1997, its a dedicated chess computer. Its stated rating on the box is 2420 ELO, but in actual play its around 2108, still very good for 1990's hardware. In Dec 2013 I played Novag Diamond II Level-FD3 against StockFish1.7 Level-1 from a Tablet. SF won 6-3-1.

Thank you!!
THANK YOU!!!
This kind of faucet is very stupid, every time the water is turned off, it needs to pass through cold water again.
I've replaced about 20 of these in my lifetime, yet the with the one I tried to swap out yesterday, I can not for some reason get that clip to slide back in. I have never had that problem. There just is not any space for the clip to slide around the cartridge. It is making a 30 minute job into an all day project!
I inherited one from previous owners of my home purchase. I literally had no idea how to use it. This helps a lot. However, kind of miss that part with I'm assuming milk. Is it boiling? Looks like they would have made it a little better so you wouldn't have to prop it up.
Well its actually called "frothing" the milk to make it foamy and smooth. I think the height is perfect, you can't make it too low otherwise the milk will spill when taking it out, otherwise you would have to raise the machine. So its a catch 22!!! LOL
six years ago and I enjoyed the humor you had, and the free info ,cause I called moen and got one free!,,thanks!! {$50.bucks now{{ now I wait for the 10 day mail wait time'...
Yes sometimes videos that are 6 years or older can still help people, but maybe 20 years from now we will have "AI" showers that will just spray water from the wall. LOL Right even my humor can be timeless, maybe like a Seinfeld episode.
AHHHH thanks for telling us it was the Heinz commercial!!!
Yes the good ole days of the 1970's. It was all over the TV back then. No cable, just CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS!! LOL
@@paulc1562 Yes,, Thee BEST DAYS
PLEASE tell me what kind of grind should I use?? The fine espresso grind is not working and it tastes terrible :/
Well you will have to experiment with the grind the amount, the amount of water, and the frothing of the cream or milk. I just use regular coffee like Folgers. So on the can its says 2 tablespoons of coffee for 6 ounces of water. I use a "French Press" the last couple years and I love it. I should make a video!! LOL
@@paulc1562 Yes, I think the machine is better with a ground for a regular coffee...
Close the tub drain before you start taking the faucet apart.
Yes good observation, but my drain spring and lock was broken so it would not close properly. That being said I was only taking showers, not baths. 😊
@@paulc1562 My drain is also broken so I put a towel over the drain.
5:59 That's so beautiful thank you. Really nice voice not shouting at it I appreciate that. I just got one for $5 five dollar!!cdn I'm so lucky and I always cappuccino machine. Your vid came up 1st on youtube But have no clue how to use it thank you so much for sharing of your time 🦜🤭😅
That is nice that you like the last picture of the stirring of the coffee, with its beautiful head of foam. Wow $5 that is a steal of a deal. Hope you enjoy your coffee machine.
Great video. Very well filmed up close.
Thank you for compliment, of my filming technique of use of the zoom in shot.
I have this espresso machine my parents bought prob in the late 2000s right before I was born ty
Bout a week ago, I got myself a similar model, really informative instructions and calming voiceover.
Thank you for compliment of my video, and I am happy you also now have a coffee machine to make good coffee.
Hi! Do you have to use the milk steamer or is that optional? I like mine iced
yes the milk steamer is optional, I also like iced coffee. For iced coffee I put water and coffee in a mason jar overnight in the refrigerator. Then the next day I pass it through my french press coffee maker.
Thank you very much I like to do things myself I don't want to have to call a plumber I just like to learn to thank you😊
yes I like to do things myself too, I like to learn on RUclips then try it in real life usually it works, sometimes not, once I ruined a stop watch trying to fix it.
😂🎉
Thanks for the smile and party icon, may the Lord Jesus be with you.
Would somebody please tell me which direction to turn the hex wrench?! I know left to loose doesn't always work, and since whoever put mine together obviously used a torque wrench, I've managed to strip mine trying to get the thing out. I don't know if I'm tightening it or loosening it.
usually "lefty loose" has worked all these years for me, and "righty tighty", I am not sure what else to say. Good luck.
Does anyone know how much water the "2" and "4" markings hold? Is it just 2 and 4 cups? Just got one of these todah ar the thrift store and its missing the carafe!
the 2 marking is 4 ounces, and the 4 marking is 8 ounces....I think it has more do to with 2 "cups" of espresso, which are usually only 2 ounces or so...
Does the machine run through all the water you put in it into the espresso? or does it run a set amount of water through? is it automatic or can you adjust how much water go into your espresso? and if yes, how?
Hi pretty blazedbaby, yes any amount of water you put it, the water will all be gone, either to make coffee, or steam. It works by pressure.
Hey by any chance can you make a google drive of the whole pamphlet and instructions? I can’t find them anywhere and my steam wand isn’t working. Thanks :)
Hi very pretty blazedbaby, come on you have to be better at google than that!!! I found it on my first try....Here is the link of the PDF manual. www.manualslib.com/manual/679704/Krups-963.html
You didn't explain how the temp limit stop can be adjusted :(
Maybe I am not real sure myself, since I did not have to ever use it for an infant or an elderly person both would need water that is not too hot. But use this time to experiment. The purpose it so you can turn the water to be too hot, it will stop the handle before the hottest temps.
Hi, thanks for the vid!! May I ask you how did you take your foot length measurement? Was it while standing with your hockey socks on? I am shopping for X4, FIT2 and had also a chance to try on S4. Surprisingly X4 is a ted longer than S4 (same size). I'd definitely go with S4 9.5 but I kinda feel in between 9 - 9.5 with X4 (my foot length is 11.14). Thanks!
I stood and put my heel against a wall, no socks, then measured. Remember my left foot is 11.75 inches which by my chart at 2:09 of the video is a size 13.5, and I fit perfect in size 11.0 Vapor X4 fit2. If your foot length is 11.14 inches, that is size 11.5, and you might fit into a size 9.0 in Vapor X4, I can't tell you about the CCM Jetspeed S4, if that is what you mean by S4. But if you stuff your toes against the toe cap, a good fit would be your heal just touching the back heel. Like I show in my video at 10:44 where I try on Vapor X4 11.0 fit 2, with hockey socks and sitting on a tall stool.
I meant M4 ( = Supreme), my apologies. That skate is a tad smaller than X4. Based on trying M4, I'd go with 9.5. Ok, I'll take X4 (size 9) into consideration anyway. Thanks a lot!
Can you make a video on how to clean this machine how to clean the metal container on the inside to avoid rust please ? Thank you
Well no need to make a video, but clean it out with vinegar every once and a while, and keep it dry inside. Thats my advice for the today. It may even be rust proof material, I am not sure.
@@paulc1562Yes it's cast aluminum so it won't rust.
You sound weird
or like JD Vance might say, "maybe your just projecting" ha, ha, ha
Thanks for cheering this video
Your welcome, hip hip hooray, hip hip, hooray, hip,hip hooray, 3 cheers for the coffee maker.
So I see a lot of us here after purchasing second hand left with no instruction booklet! 😂 I got mine at the thrift store for $7.50 😊
Yes that is a good deal, now you get a nice cup of coffee too.
Can you do a video on how to clean the inside with the descaling solution?
I had never used any descaling solution on the inside, just good ole soap and water and sometimes vinegar. Its hard to clean the frothing pipe, but I used a paper towel twisted into a small rope, and run it through a few times.
@@paulc1562 darn :( the one I got from an estate sale, the inside looks like it never was cleaned before. The inside was just clumps of hard white. Vinegar could only do so much :(
@@Badboyplants I just took a picture of my inside, with my cell phone on flash mode, and it looks like some kind of ceramic material, or pitty type of metal, but I too see some white pitted scaling. But I don't use mine too much anymore because I bought a French Press. Too bad I can't easily share the picture on youTube.
@@paulc1562 that’s okay, thanks anyways! The inside of mine looks like a cave or stalagmites 😂
@@Badboyplants OK, thanks for the description, it was not too hard to post a picture ( see below link ) I used my google drive. Take a look and let me know if its like your inside of your Krups coffee maker. Sounds like yours is a little worse. drive.google.com/file/d/1ddWldV_3VMK4dB-mXreAHuhl3uv2nVF5/view?usp=drive_link
Got mine for $4 used. The upright 'antenna' part is missing from my froth maker, still makes froth though.
Wow I think $4 is the record, I seen a guy get one for $7.50, but we got a steal for $4. I hope your enjoying your coffee.
Excellent. The problem shown is exactly my problem. Have to order the cartridge.
Yes, and if you call Moen they will send you a free cartridge too.
Just bought one at the thrift store but my steamer doesn’t have that extra handle 😭
Well thankfully you don't need frothed cream for a good up of coffee, just add cream and sugar and your good to go. Frothed cream is a luxury, but its kind of over rated too, and its a lot of cleanup.

Usefull video! I buy a same (used) machine (ABC espresso capuccino) and i had no any guide booklet to make my first coffee! Until i found this video! Thank u so much!
I am glad that you bought a used Krups espresso machine, and that this video will be your guide to making good coffee. Cheers
Thank you! How delightful and relaxing! I also bought mine at a thrift shop, for $6.99!! Now I can use it!
I found one of these yesterday in my mom's garage as I was sorting through things to sell, and brought it home. I think my stepdad must have used it in his office years ago. It's horribly caked with mineral deposits in the water tank, so I'm letting some vinegar sit in the tank, then I'll rinse it out and try running water through it. Thank you for the instructive--and fun!--video, Paul! Wish me well, that this little coffee maker works!
Update (I know, no one cares!): it works great! I used a lot of water and vinegar to get it cleaned out , especially the steam arm for the frother. I followed your instructions for brewing, right down to the proper tap on the top after screwing on the tank lid 😉. I’m missing the important part of the Kroger garlic tin but the little machine works well and is fun to use. Yummy coffee!
We coffee drinkers care! We are a community! Its good to document what you have done for posterity, it will help others with similar issues. Yes the Kroger Garlic tin is just the perfect size to hold my cup close to the frother. Like Homer Simpson once said, "Coffee Good".
Thank you man, I was struggling to figure this out after my landlord kept delaying coming by to fix this. You're a lifesaver!
Great to hear!
The filter basket lock has a min/max setting, does anybody know what is the purpose of this?
At one time I thought I had the MAX/MIN setting figured out, because it talks about it in the manual, but its kind of vague. That being said, I always set it on MAX for I figured maximum flavor!! LOL
Love the garlic tin stand, genius!. Might be better with cinnamon, lol. We pulled ours out of the cupboard after a lot of years. Will give it a go.
Yes the Kroger Garlic Tin is the perfect size for my coffee cup to get a good froth without holding it up with my hand.
I bought this same exact model from goodwill. I went to use it after watching your video and everything was fine until I smelled the coffee. It smellled horrible, like burning metal. Any tips on what I’m doing wrong?
Maybe you should flush it out first with vinegar, somebody in the comment section said this. But without me being there live, I am not sure what is going on with the "burning metal" coffee smell. Actually I am not exactly sure what burning metal smells like, its it that electricity smell?
I love it..I’m learning, thanks a lot!!!! ☕️
I am so happy that you love the video, and hopefully you are loving your coffee too. I try to make the video informative and like to add humor too. Cheers.
Thanks for your video. It allowed me to fix a metal shower handle that came off. The handle adapter screw somehow was behind the handle adapter inside the metal handle. I unscrewed the outer metal handle screw with a very small straight head screwdriver. That allowed me to remove the black handle adapter that was inside the metal handle. I could hear a loose part when I shook the metal handle. That loose part was the handle adapter screw (1:16 of this video). I was then able to attach the handle adapter with the handle adapter screw back to the stem assembly and reattach the metal handle onto the handle adapter with the handle adapter screw. Without your video, I wouldn't have figured it out myself. Thanks again!
I was glad my video was able to help you figure it out.
Thank you so much for your video.😊
your welcome, I am glad you watched it
Just picked one of these up at an estate sale. Thanks for the vid! Very fun and informative!
Yes an old school espresso mini, I was glad you were able to pick one up at an estate sale, and then make some good coffee with it. You should also try a French Press, they make good coffee too.
But how do you adjust the temperature?
if you watch starting at 1:48 I am talking about the white plastic temperature limit stop, you can put it in different configurations to limit the handle from going too far left, thus limiting the hot water, do some experimentation with it.
