This is quite excellent. Lyrical, well thought out logic and development. All around great to hear and enjoy.
been thinking about my crossing paths with Tournemire's organ music many years back a bit lately, but not got around to re-listening yet. thanks for the reminder ... in light of which, any other playlist suggestions for "super cosmic" glacial organ music? like the best slow expansive bits of Jarrett's "Spheres" / "Messiaen - L'Ascension" etc?
oh, i see this is a 7+ hour set now in progress of upload ... that will probably keep me busy! 😆.. none the less, a lot of organ music tends to be a bit OTT in my experience, i am def interested in exploring the more contemplative "stiller waters" ...
Perhaps you might have interest in this little piece I wrote a year or two ago...ruclips.net/video/vbTir8Zz92I/видео.html And otherwise, perhaps have a listen to Louis Vierne's calmer music? Not quite the same sphere as Tournemire but I enjoy it all the same.

I'll always wonder what it is that I just heard? BRAVO from Acapulco.
My favourite of the Tubin symphonies, although all of 6 to 9 are of exceptional quality (I haven't quite gotten into 10 yet although no doubt it's also a masterpiece; the earlier ones are very enjoyable as well). I've only scratched the surface in terms of understanding it, but here are some observations: - The Viennese trichord... everywhere. A Tubin leitmotif, especially during this period (see pretty much anything else). Similarly the dithyrambic rhythm heard at the beginning or variations thereof, which here also doubles as a bolero. Also the appogiatura motif which I think is from Estonian folk music (at least it also comes up in Saar and Eller). - Related to the trichord, the Northern Lights leitmotif as seen in the 2nd piano sonata and 2nd violin sonata is apparently in this too, although I've not been able to isolate it (there's a use of Messiaen's 4th mode of limited transposition which the leitmotif is based on in the violins at 2:46 (one bar before (6)) but I'm sure there are far better examples). - The major 2nds and perfect 4ths in the opening oboe solo is a bit reminiscent of the first subject of the 4th Symphony. - The horn motif at 1:15 and its use throughout the symphony - particularly during the Scherzo where the perfect 4th and minor 9th are important thematic material. - The early entry of the trumpet at 2:35 to produce a sort of "pre-stretto" with the main melody in the violins - I can't think of another example of this effect. - The perfection of what has been termed "rotational form" in the 1st movement, culminating in the most satisfying of climaxes at 6:21, partly because the proportions and structure are so well-formed. - Talking of that climax, the layering effect he achieves is just incredible. You have the initial climax, then that insidious little wooden block, then the trumpets come in with a thematically-transformed version of the saxophone solo earlier, then my favourite piccolo screech at 6:38 before a gradual unwinding to "leave the barn door dangling by the hinges" as I think I once read the aftermath described as (can't find the source for that but I thought it was a great description). Haven't looked so much into the 2nd and 3rd movements but from the trumpet part at 16:06 (again a thematic transformation of earlier material) to the end of the Scherzo is fantastic, with the big build up to climax with its amalgamation of the Viennese trichord motif from the beginning of the movement, minor 9th motif (horn from 9:24) and appogiatura motif (from 14:14), then those silly trombone glissandi and the percussion passage - the whole thing is simultaneously hilarious and thrillingly terrifying... oh this symphony is so good! And I notice the later ones also have score videos, so I look forward to having a better look at them as well! Thank you very much!

Very beautiful piano pieces! I'm currently trying to find the sheet music of the pieces...but no luck so far. If you have the sheet music, would you share it with me?
Yes, no problem! Just send me an email at pranav.sivakumar@berkeley.edu
Music for introspection and meditation. Beautiful work, Pranav.
Thank you, Utsyo!
Great upload. This is a great sum up of Tubin sound. A great work. Interesting tempo marking for the last movement given the tone. Personally i prefer the 7th and 3rd but thats just personal taste.
Wow, I'm blow away, again, by another Tubin upload! I usually hate the use of Timpani, let alone the overuse of it, but this is practically a timpani feature, and I love it! Also, one of the best uses of trombone glissandi ever! Totally unexpected, added to the climax perfectly. The best combinations of Shostakovich and Bartok in here, but still sounds fresh and original. I'm sold!
It felt a bit Shostakovichian to me too :)
Evocative and colourful!
Thanks so much, Utsyo!
I enjoyed the way you used the percussive qualities of the piano in a very musical way to convey a sense of story in depicting such a violent event. Mathias Halvorsen gave great performance!
Thank you for the kind words and for listening as always, Martin!
All 253 videos used to be in this playlist. What happened to them? May I ask?
As I mentioned already, I did not make that playlist (which indeed seems to have disappeared.) This is a different playlist where I am compiling all my score videos of l'Orgue Mystique, and I do plan to make videos of all 51 parts. If you want to access all of Delvallée's recordings right now, the best place to go until I finish these videos is the channel www.youtube.com/@TheMysticalOrgan, which also has all the religious information you might need.
Dear Pranav! I've been looking for the score for this piece for ages! Where did you get it and can I get a pdf copy if possible?

This is my favourite of his symphonies. The overall structure is really tightly argued, memorable themes and a very unique sound world. It's a great contrast to the bombast of the 6th and more personal than the earlier symphonies (though they are really good too), and less austere than the 8th.
yeah im solid
these are vital for my current four year series... what happened to the complete 253 videos?
I have lots of score videos to upload, not just l'Orgue Mystique - it takes plenty of time to put together and I am trying to get to them all. This is purely "volunteer work" on my part, I'm doing my best and this project is still on my list.
Thank you so much. I was just inquiring as to what happened to the videos that were there. All 253 videos used to be in a playlist. All the movements of all the pieces in the LOM.
@schniggs2011 when I last saw, that playlist was still there - however, it only has the recordings. It might take several years, but I'm hoping to make score videos of every part eventually.
@ the playlist is no longer there - that was my point. But I have only have ten sets to go in my series here in Chicago, after which I’m recording the whole thing.
Fantastic upload. If only he had completed this symphony. Still its good to hear this fragment. I hope you upload the 7th symphony soon.

Powerful masterpiece.....with echoes of Nielson and Shosta......BRAVO from Acapulco!
..............Nielsen........
Truly an impressive work. Interesting choice of instruments, meaning the bass clarinet. Very introvert piece, philosophical, maybe wouldn't be exaggerated if I say esoteric. With some ironic whiffs from time to time. I quite much fancy the post-modern whim at p. 12. Very fragmentary (or at least on the surface of it), minimalistic (but not in relation to the mainstream musical minimalism, the American minimalism I mean, it is more in the sense of literally minimalistic) even to the point of asceticism. There are a lot of timbre games but they are not as an end in itself, definitely a complex piece. The dialogue between music (or just sounds if you wish) and silence is remarkable. It gives the listener the freedom to think, to contemplate, to feel, to ponder, to feel lost and found or found and lost in the same time, to process the dramaturgy of the piece and to anticipate the next act, happening. Congratulations for your creativity. It is a fresh piece. Maybe you should consider participating in the International Rostrum of Composers if you haven't already. I would like to be excused for the excessively long commentary for this form here on the internet. Once again I would like to sincerely congratulate you for your work. In my opinion you are on the right path with this piece.
Thank you very much for the kind comment! What you have written is quite similar to the way I think about my own music.

Thank you ❤❤❤

Amazing stuff, what an unbelievably overlooked composer
Fascinating music, as always Pranav. I like the harmonic language and the clear, but not thin, textures. I like the way he "weights" his melodic lines by scoring unison pairs, as with the clarinets and trumpets and with the strings by having the violas and 2nds or the 1sts and 2nds always in unison with those moving 8th note lines in Movement 1. They're techniques that I enjoy hearing and that I use a lot myself these days. Thanks!
Voilà une vraie découverte musicale , merci Pranav ! .

.....and STILL exciting monumental.....even a month later......BRAVO from Acapulco!
Wonderful! Alas, I can't read music but crudely follow "the hieroglyphs". I think it's still preferable to having somewhat stale pictures of organ consoles, pipes, etc. If we were being exceptionally picky for a video, I envisage a split screen with the score on one side and imagery from the appropriate Sunday theme plus chant on the other. Good luck with your truly epic task.

Great! Finally someone made a full recording of these precious modern pieces.
Wow! It's really thrilling to hear such fully realized, highly personal symphonic writing executed with this level of commitment. I'm particularly at home with how he consistently maximizes the weight of his string tone throughout the piece. I've arrived at a very similar approach in my own work. Long unison midrange lines consistently carried by the firsts, seconds and violas is a super effective and expressive allocation of resources. In fact these days I hardly think in terms of first and second violins at all - it's just one big section. Thanks so much Pranav!
Thanks so much for listening, Tom! It's a remarkable piece indeed, I will also post his second symphony soon. Hope you are well!
