NEIL GREATHOUSE - Meeting My Marathon Team Ep. 1
SUPPORT NEIL HERE - beyondtyperun24.funraise.org/fundraiser/neil-greathouse
Neil Greenhouse (@NeilGreathouse )was one of the first diabetics I found online after my diagnosis. Immediately, I was drawn in by his knowledge on living with Type 1, humor (the changing lancet video killed me), and the genuine optimism he shares with the whole community.
I'm glad to say that he displays all that and more in this interview.

    Not T1, but became T2. My doctor never informed me how close I was, but I had started losing weight. I would have lost the weight more quickly and added strength training. I have lost a lot of weight, 50lbs since diagnosis. I'm almost at my 20 year old, college weight with a 34" waist. I hate my doctor for not giving me the information I needed to prevent this. I used Tresiba when I was first diagnosed for maybe a year or two, but then my insurance switched me to Toujeo. I think it’s been alright but I also don’t have much to compare it to. Thank you for sharing this! I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know this was a thing so I need to look into it.

    • @eastonguy62
      @eastonguy62 Месяц назад

      @@archetypeoneyes. I will only use Tresiba when I take my pump breaks. It has the flattest profile and helps to prevent lows. My insurance wouldn’t cover it, so I just buy it through Single care. I always keep a few syringes in my refrigerator. You’ve been diabetic for about a year longer than I have. I’m kind of surprised your doctor hasn’t put you on the pump. Once you go on the pump, you really see how the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The convenience of being able to give yourself an injection at any time, to micro bolus, to have the automated system, stop your insulin when you’re heading low. There are other advantages like for example being able to program the pump to increase your basal insulin in the early morning hours, to avert the dawn phenomenon. You can’t do that with MDI.

I wouldn't be as mentally strong as I'm right now without T1D. So, I guess, in some ways, I can also say that I love having it :) The part about children having it, for me, is also a tough pill to swallow, I guess you just have to be optimistic about it. How do you keep your bg stable during long runs? Do you eat/drink anything before? Also, do you carb load at night or hours prior to a run? I’ve been having issues maintaining a stable sugar even for 6 miles

    • @archetypeone
      @archetypeone 5 месяцев назад

      I didn’t see this until just now! So sorry! Long runs are tough, and it took me a while to figure out that I needed 25-30g of carbs every 30 minutes on my long runs. I had to experiment with different food and timing over the course of a few weeks to get it really dialed. I did eat big the night before a big run, but I still had to keep up my carb schedule like normal. I was also on keto/low-carb for a good chunk of my training, and on long runs I still had to get carbs in every 40-45 minutes. Another helpful tip is hydration! Dehydration messed with my sugars for a while before I even knew what was going on. I’d recommend getting some electrolytes in as well as carbs before and during those runs! 6 mile runs are no joke, especially with T1D! Hope this helps! Keep it up 💪
