Hi Riley, my name is Ilenia and I study clarinet in Italy. I have also studied these orchestral passages and I can afford to express an opinion: these orchestral passages are still to mature. Beethoven has several errors, including erroneous notes and various inaccuracies; I didn't understand: why do you play Mendelssohn on the A clarinet? also Prokofiev is unpronounceable (sorry if I tell you) the passages do not come out, the notes seem to be thrown at random and you cannot hear the sound .. in general there is a lot of work to be done on presence, sound quality and technique, because when you play it seems like you are really struggling. you have to push the breath more with the abdominal muscles and always support the sound and articulate the tongue and fingers better. These are suggestions, I'm not a hater. excuse my bad english, i help myself with a translator. good luck and good study! you can delete my comment if you want, I understand it's an audition. however, the important thing is that you read the message before deleting it. Greetings

Nice job for two years! But I have to say, you're playing higher notes than I usually play, and I've been playing for six years now. I wouldn't focus so much on high notes at this point, and just try to get a good tone first. As you get more comfortable on the instrument, the high notes will come. Like, you have better tone in the high notes than me, it's apparent that you've practiced them a lot, but there's no point being able to squeeze out a nice high f if you can't cleanly slur over the break or keep the throut tones in tune.

Hi Riley, thanks for sharing your progression it was really interesting to hear the changes. I am just about to embark on teaching myself the clarinet from scratch. I already know I am able to produce a noise so that's encouraging. I had a look through your and others comments (thanks everyone for the cheek shaming, going to have that stuck in my head now!) but couldn't see you mention on average how often or also for how long your practise sessions were to achieve these results. Are you able to advise about how often and for how long each time you would recommend to make good progress? Thanks for any tips you can share. You have also inspired me to consider creating a video diary of my progress too but not sure if I would post mine.

I'm hoping I can make this good of progress before college. I've been playing for about 6 years now, but this year recently someone's actually told me things I can work on and fix (because I was taught wrong for 5 years). I'm not that bad of a player (I hope) I think one of my biggest problems is anchor tonguing that really holds me back. I suppose playing on a crappy 50 year old broken clarinet also doesn't help but eh. I loved the progress bro, I hope you keep going with it

You sound good. Still need practice though. The only thing that bothered me about this is your cheeks!! Your not supposed to have them puffed up like that. Stop doing that and you'll get a WAYYY better sound. You also might have your reed on the clarinet too tight, and you should fix your posture. Postures everything and it really does help with the sound. :)

This was pretty good, I've been playing clarinet for about 6 years now about to be in the 12th grade finishing my last year playing in high school! A little tip, try not to puff your cheeks when you are play, try and keep that from happening and you will look more professional and also try to play easier songs and if you want to learn hard ones take it slow and try to memorize the music and get the muscle memory. But other than that you sound so so so amazing and keep up the amazing work you got this!! <3
