The varnish looks gross but technically it did it's job, it protected the paint from dirt, smoke, dust and ash. Just needs some help getting removed.

Originals are always the right choice. Overpainting a nearly 500 year painting belittles and erases the creators vision, interpretation, and artistic gift. ✨🌟💛🌟✨

My question: who do these belong to? The property owner? The excavator? The government? The museum? Who gets the money for discovering them? They’re obviously very valuable.

Wow, it's like 2 completely different women. Who decided to alter the original painting? Restoring this painting to its original was the best solution. Queen Isabella wasn't as blandly pretty as the Victorian modification, but at least we can see the artist's true creation👍

The last one made me think of Louise Brooks.
