Sounds pretty decent
very nice video, thank you! I will be tape-modding my Q6 this week. Now I know, that I cannot do anything wrong+
im interested to know what keycaps those are
Just bought the q6 pro barebones, think I'm gonna do gateron oil kings and lube them myself, as well as stabilizer mods, foam, and tape mod
what are the mods?
@ben_thugs tape mod and poron kit
Does the tape mod cause fire hazard? As most online advice against it
So much for being "quiet"... seems like there just no such thing.
Wgat keycaps are those?
Keychron Unicorn Keycaps
eeeeeuuughhhhhh sounds nice
I got mine with the banana switches and they seem fine for now but have ordered a little better foam and plan to do a tape mod as well. Sounded much different with the new keycaps as well! Thanks for showing all you did!
Those prelubed reds sound scratchy af
Have you removed the stock thin foam from the bottom case before installing the foam from the upgrade kit?
i have left the stock thin foam in the bottom with the film still behind it.
@@marijkee719 Did you try the difference with and without the stock foam?
Will this Upgrade Kit fit to V1 version. Both keyboards seems similar.
I think that it only fits the Q1 Pro. But you can ask Keychron.
Hi! I just bought the Q5 Pro and their upgrade kit and it came with 4 gasket foams, do you know where do i put them ? And, do I need to replace the existing foams with the new acoustic kit foams of just add them ?
Did you buy the Q5 Pro fully assembled or barebones? Keychron has videos on their RUclips channel showing how to assemble the keyboard. As for the accoustic upgrade kit, you need to replace the existing foams with the ones from the kit.
Sounds much deeper and just what I'm going for, convinced me to buy the bananas, thanks for the video!
Do you feel like the upgrade kit changed the sound significantly? More high pitched or more thunk than before?
I liked it the most in combination with the tape mod. It adds more thock and it's not as hollow as stock.
Hi, do you have a link to where you got your Gateron Oil Kings switches from exactly? Thanks
I ordered them hand lubed from a keyboard store on Etsy. LoobedSwitches.com might have them too.
What foam are the switch pads?
Nice job🎉
Thank you 🙏
hey, with the oil kings, can you still see the rgb?
I haven't tried but the housing of the switch is black so probably not
wow, I really like this keyboard, Shell white is beautiful, easy to mod
I was able to pretty much replicate this. However, I lost the flex on my board. Were you able to retain the flex?
Maybe if you use polyfil instead of cotton pads the flex will be better. It is less dense than cotton.
@@Splashy2k Yeah i used polyfill, placed a sound deadening mat beneath the polyfill too. Might try it with just the polyfill.
@@0xBULLgogi Yes, that should help
Great step by step video!
Thank you!
good job , i was want that video to know how its sound like , with these key caps
Thank you! I'm glad it helped.
The switches that came with the stock are Keychron Pro Red. Did you switch them out before fully modding the keyboard? EDIT: Also, thanks for showing off the mods. I'm thinking of modding my Q1 Pro too. I've been thinking of using the Gateron Oil Kings as switches, and seeing you use it on your board made me decide to go with it.
Thank you. I modded the keyboard before switching out the switches. I did a sound test with the Gateron Pro Red after modding the keyboard, it's in the video.
Sounds incredible!
Thank you! I really like how it turned out too.
The thocc sounds sooo good
Thank you!
Did you lube it yourself or just stayed with the factory lube?
@@alexngo7030 I bought it prelubed. I like lubed switches but I don't have the patience or the time to lube them myself.
Massive thock, good job
Thank you!
Hey man quick question, i just got this board and i am thinking of what mods i should do. Have you looked at modding it with alubutyl or pe foam and if you did how were the results. So far you board sounds FANTASTIC btw
Hey, thank you, glad you liked it. I personally like the polyfil and tape mod because they are easy to do and they really made the sound and feel better. I tried pe foam once and it didn't work for me, maybe my pe foam was too thick.
@@Splashy2k Probably, i have heard it shouldn't be any thicker than 1mm preferably 0.5mm but i will definitely give the polyfill mod a shot. I just need to figure out what switches to go for with this set up. Choosing between the milky yellow pro, oil kings and boba u4t. And do you think changing the keycaps made a big difference in feel and sound?
@@GeorgeWKush-lb4fc The keycaps you choose can make a difference in feel and sound.
@@Splashy2k i know that, but do you think it was worth it getting different ones rather than the stock keycaps
@@GeorgeWKush-lb4fc I actually liked the stock keycaps better than those specific keycaps but it depends on the keycaps, obviously. Some I like better than others. I generally like a softer typing experience.
Nice sound! what's the numpad you're using ?
Thank you. The Numpad is KBDFans KBDpad Mark II
@@Splashy2k actually looks great together than with the q0 size wise 👍
holy crap it sounds really. Way deeper than my Q1 V2 with tape mod and pe foam. I did get the 65g boba 4ut so no idea if that changes the pitch/frequency at all. What case foam did you use if you removed the sound dampener? Cotton?
I used cotton. I also lubed the Boba U4Ts the Gazzew way and that made them sound deeper.
I really like the end result sound.
Thank you :) So do I
is it safe to put the tape on the keyboard? won't it damage the board? just asking before I try to do this
Personally I have done this mod on several keyboards and nothing happened but your mileage may vary. Do so at your own risk.
Thanks :) Using this as a guide to mod my Q6. Got some boba u4ts on the way and akko keycaps coming in. Going to do the same tape/polyfill thing you got going on
You're very welcome :)
Loved how straightforward this video was! Thanks and great job!
Thank you! :)
Thanks for this!
Lol li literally every single other comment got a like but yours didn’t. Sadge
Very nice, my Q6 arrived yesterday :D it's a pretty big boy
Thank you 🙏 Yes, it's pretty big. I really like it.
@@Splashy2k I now also have the Q6 and I have a question, when I press the "Caps Lock" button, the LED turns white, but if I press the "Num Clear" button, it doesn't white, is that the case with you too? shouldn't it also be white as an indicator?
@@Neikon I use GMK keycaps that are not shine through so I haven’t really noticed but I’ll try and see after my cat gets off the keyboard cover 😊 In the meantime maybe you can also try to program it using VIA
@@Splashy2k I've already looked at via, unfortunately I can't find anything, I've now also gotten PBT keycaps, I just want to know whether my board is defective or whether it's normal :D it would be nice if you could take a look. normal RGB lighting works without any problems
@@Neikon I checked and on my keyboard neither the capslock nor the numlock turn white, it's just the normal RGB. Maybe it has something to do with the lighting mode, or not.
what plate do you have?
I have the steel plate that came with the keyboard
did you keep the pcb foam in the q3?
@pillow rabbit Yes, I did
Imma use this as a sound effect of lego characters building stuff
Looks like Gmmk frame😅
What's the cable? Really like that it's not heatshrink on the connectors
It's a custom cable from Glorious
Pudding keycaps on the Gmmk pro look fire
Great review! I noticed that there is no num lock or caps lock on this keyboard? Does the four symbols on the top right corner a light indicator? I could not find information regarding that anywhere.
Thank you! The keyboard doesn't have a light indicator for Caps Lock and Num Lock.
My Q6 (with firmware updated to 1.02) changes the RGB lighting for Caps Lock to white when it's active. I'm sure there's a way to reprogram it however you'd like through VIA. Hope that helps. 👍🏻
@@DanH11 Thanks for the info!!

Thank you! The keyboard doesn't have a light indicator for Caps Lock and Num Lock.
@@Splashy2k Is there a way you can get around it? Any other indicator using light?
@@arafathshiyam It may be possible using VIA/QMK.
@@arafathshiyam I believe you can program it in VIA/QMK to modify your lights when caps lock is on. I'm assuming the same for numlock but not sure
@@im_Spade_ I have not programmed mine yet. But I believe you have a large variety of option with QMK. I just did not get around doing it yet.
is there a lot of flex when you type hard? Im going to be getting this keyboard with a brass plate and adding some clicky switches. Was hoping the gasket mechanism wouldnt mess with my clicks
I'm a touch typist and I don't type hard but for me at least the flex doesn't bother me and after the mods I made there might be less flex than before but I don't mind it.
Would love to see a video of Q6 in all white colour cuz there is no barebone Q6 in white colour :/ don't know if I can spray- paint it white.. also what's your fav switch?
I don't think there's any version of Q6 available in White just yet. Some people spray paint their keyboards, I don't feel comfortable doing that. My favorite switch, that's a tough question, lol. I like quite a few switches and I can't decide on any one of them. I mainly like linear and tactile switches, especially linear. I know I like my switches lubed because it makes them feel a lot smoother and softer and I like the sound better that way. Some of the switches that I like are alpacas, banana splits, nk creams, Black Ink V2, Boba U4T.
Q6 Pro comes in white now!
You don't need the polyfill. Just do the pe foam mod on the pcb(it will require removal of keycaps and switches) and do tape mod. Remove away the plate foam and case foam. You don't need those. It will sound awesome due to the PE foam mod and it will flex like a dream without the case foam plate foam.
I tried doing the PE Foam mod once and I had trouble fitting the switches and a lot of switches wouldn't work with the PE foam installed. I bought PE foam that was recommended by one of the youtubers who did the mod.
@@Splashy2k it's probably too thick. I had the same issue when I used 2 layers of pe foam that came with my tv. With 2 layers, about 70 percent switches work and it sound super super nice and creamy. I can make it work but will be tedious as most switches were bend as 2 layers of pe foam was pretty thick so if u didn't insert the switches straight on, it might bend. I change to 1 layer of 0.5mm pe foam and it worked on my first try. All switches work without me removing to check the pins. Though 0.5mm is not as creamy sounding as 1mm, it still does have that creamy marbly sound.
@@jamesmadison3108 Thanks, I'll try to find 0.5mm PE foam.
polyfill is wonderful. Stop spreading false information. PE foam has NOTHING to do with what polyfill does. bozo
How do you like those key caps?
I like them a lot, they're great.
End game?
Probably, for now anyway :)
