Vlogmas Day 13
Welcome to Vlogmas 2024! I'm so glad you are here. I did almost no knitting but the dogs got bathed (not by me) and I had a fun zoom meeting this afternoon. Pizza for dinner was perfect.

Welcome to Vlogtober 2024! It's the end of vlogtober already and what a month. Today, I get caught up on the last few days of the month. And there's actual knitting content about 12 minutes in. I hope you've had a good October and I look forward to seeing you for Vlogmas!
I loved seeing Lacey’s walk today with the crazy goats and deer. The mug is fun my friend bought me a unicorn mug that I use as my toothbrush holder in the bathroom cabinet. It always makes me smile
That's such a cute way to use a special mug. I'm glad you enjoyed the walk. I think I was as surprised as the deer when we spotted each other. I'm amazed that she held still long enough for me to get the camera on her.
What magical chew ball is that that Lacy had? We have a six month old pup, and m looking for some softer chew toys other than those wishbones and harder ones. Sully is also part of the shredding team. I’ll have to send you a video. ❤
It’s made by Kong. It has stood up to her chewing pretty well so far. You can also tuck treats into it to keep them busy a while longer. P.S. I would love to see Sully!
Bullssshhh. They make money buy u buying from them mine are progressive and are great
I have definitely heard good reports of Pair's prescription service. Glad you had a good experience!
Apparently wood is a great chew toy this week. My 3 year old husky was gnawing on a branch this morning, though, not unusual for him.
My dogs all love a good stick. Lacey is the only one currently in a “shred all the things” stage.
the scissor's tassel looked like it matched your top today
It did! I love that color; I should wear it more often.
Your pups are adorable!
Thanks! They are big goofballs and we love them. They keep the coyotes away from our goats by being big and loud.
Good job throwing something for supper. I need to remember that simple supper idea. Happy Holidays!❤❤
It's okay to have something quick and simple for nights when you just don't feel like doing anything special. I figure it was better than most takeout we could have gotten.
I've done a little bit of English Paper Piecing (I finished a quilt for a friend) and I think that little clutch is just about the perfect size to decide weather or not you like the craft. ;)
That's what I was thinking. It looks like a good project for trying it out.
I think you always do a good job editing. As someone that started out with your podcast and followed you here, your skills have grown over the years!
Glad your son made it out of surgery ok! Also, love the houses and the doors!! ❤ Glad you’re all sorted on the colors too!! ❤
Thanks for your help, Christi. I'm so glad to be able to match colors to movies. Andrew is doing well. He seems to be mostly back to his usual self.
I hear you on the water bowls. I swear there topped up only to be completely gone less than 5 minutes later sometimes. Your Pyrs are so cute!! And I’d venture to say you are on Christmas with the Kranks with the deeper pink. Haven’t gotten there yet, and I don’t remember when I was unwinding to get to #1. ❤
The dogs definitely have a favorite water bowl. It's funny to me that they all like the same one. And I think it's the one that holds the least water, of course!
I loved listening to your piano practice. I was reading a whole chapter in church this morning but as it was 1 Corinthians 13 I didn’t mind . The craft fair sounded fun
Thank you! I hadn’t played in church in so long that a couple of people said “I didn’t know you could play the piano”. It was fine, mistakes and all. Nobody got hurt! The craft fair was really nice, especially for our tiny town. I’m glad your reading went well. That passage is a good choice for the Christmas season.
Kay I tried looking up the sweater you wore yesterday. I love the look of that pattern. I thought you said Copper Canyon. But I must of heard it wrong. Could you reply with the pattern name so I can check it out. Thank you and I’m enjoying your videos too.
You didn’t misunderstand. I can’t find the pattern online anywhere either. It was in a book, Handmade-Slow Fashion Inspired by Arizona’s 5 Cs. A used copy might be available somewhere but it seems to have mostly disappeared. I’ll try to remember to show you the book this week on a Vlogmas episode.
That is a very cool way to reduce the excess yarn from the extra YO, thank you for sharing!
I'm so relieved that it worked!
I love seeing all your furry friends. Zelda is very cute and the dogs you stopped to pet were very funny as they competed for your attention. The wrap looks really nice. I hope that your daughter and husband start to feel better soon
The Big Dogs are so sweet. Their names are Buster and Keaton. They love for us to stop and play for a bit when we drive by the pasture. I think they are both a little better today. I'm hoping that continues.
Those are hangers for quilts. Love mine.
Thank you! I eventually watched the MSQC video with Jenny opening the gifts and she explained it.
I didn't do an intense search but I wasn't able to find the Missouri Star Co advent videos online. I agree with you, would be a nice way to tempt people to purchase it next time.
Try this link: www.missouriquiltco.com/pages/jennys-christmas-box-unboxing?
My cups were just fine too. I’m like you about not sure about how to use other than measuring cups. Have a question, do you get any instructions on what to do with all the pieces in yesterday (day2) . I am really liking that advent. Thank you introducing that to me last year. Have a great day

Glad your son is doing well! I could hear Zelda's mighty purrs even before you leaned closer, that cat has quite the purr motor!
Zelda has an amazingly loud purr for such a small cat. I'm glad Andrew is doing well too. He's a good son.
Zelda's stripes and your tops's stripes match!
Matching Zelda is the height of fashion for me! She's a sweet baby.
Happy Vlogmas!! I love the PK yarn colorway!! What a sweetie Zelda is. I got a Kirby Wirby advent sock set too. You should have got a paper with the different movies on it. The colors are slightly off, but helpful as a guide. I was at number 8, but I just wound off to #1 and saved the extra in case I need it. Normally you get close to two repeats in her sets (at least that’s been the case in years past. I am also going cuff down with coordinating heels toes and cuffs. Happy belated birthday!!
Thank you so much for helping me figure it out! I'm definitely going in reverse order but it's nice to know which movie matches the color.
Monday is laundry day here too. The sock yarn looks very fun
I'm really enjoying the stripy socks. It's fun watching the next color come up.
Thank you! God bless you this Advent Season!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're here. Merry Christmas!
Good morning! I'm so happy to see you back at vlogmas. Merry Christmas, friend!
Merry Christmas, Jennifer! How's your family?
Zelda is such a sweetie and so pretty! Sending get well thoughts to your household and good thoughts for your son.
Thank you. I’m feeling better so it’s easier to take care of the rest of the family. I’ll update on the wisdom teeth tomorrow!
Hope you feel better soon. I have been waiting for this time of year and enjoying being able watch your Vlogmas. Thank you 🙏
I’m so glad you’re here! I’m better and hoping everyone else will be soon.
Ooh you got the White Christmas advent! I was *soooo* tempted by it (White Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie) but I already had an advent ordered, and ultimately passed. But now I can watch you open it! Hope you all get to feeling better soon! Whatever it is that's been going around has *everyone* under the weather 😅. I know so many people who aren't feeling good right now, it's terrible. Zelda is so cute!
I'm so excited about the White Christmas advent! PK Yarn always does such a great job with her advents. Which one did you get? I hope we are better soon too. I'm not too bad, just a bit stuffy and not very energetic. We heard that a lot of church members were out sick today. Zelda is adorable. She's very curious and loves people. It's been nice having her here.
@BedeSisters I got Christmas in Cabot Cove from Mystery Mouse Yarn - it's a Murder She Wrote inspired one. I'm gonna watch the show while I knit on it, and I think it's gonna be a lot of fun!
FYI - your code is for orders of $85+ (not $60).
Thanks for the heads up! It was still $60 when the video was made. There have been several changes since then.
Ohmygoodness that bag! I am keeping an eye out for the drawstring bag. haha I hope things calm down for you and you can get your house back to normal.
The house is fixed! I'm slowly getting things back to normal. I have some drawstring bags now, just not listed in the shop. If you want one, with or without the book and yarn, send me an email. I can invoice you directly.
Kay! Those gnome kits would've sold out at SAFF! I missed seeing you there so much this year. Hoping for a HUGE reunion event next year!
Thanks, Tracy! We definitely need a reunion meetup. I was more saddened than I would have expected to miss SAFF. I hadn't realized how much of a boost it is for me, and not only for sales but for renewing friendships. The gnomes are so cute and Sarah Schira is clearly a genius.
I LOVE PAIR EYEWEAR! I have multifocal lenses, and I didn't think it was possible to order empty glasses. Mine seem to be working fine. These glasses are so fun! I hated wearing glasses my whole life, but I actually enjoy these! I look forward to getting at least one new top a month. The cost of the tops are not excessively expensive at $20 to $30 a piece, so even on a small budget you can accumulate a fun collection. 🤓🥸😎
I'm so glad yours are working for you. I've heard from several viewers that they've had good experiences with Pair prescriptions. From what I can tell, they are a great company.
That is such a great movie. Haven’t seen that one in a while. I’ll have to find it and watch it again. Thanks.
Arsenic and Old Lace is a family favorite. We watched it on Amazon Prime although it wasn't included. We had to buy or rent.
Such a beautiful place to go. Been enjoying your videos. Been binge watching to catch up . 🤪
Thank you so much for watching! It was a fun challenge.
Ugh! I hope your home repairs wrap up quickly without any more surprises. I really thought when you started talking about putting sheets in the wash that you were going to say the washer leaked all over the floor! Whew! Glad I was wrong! We have a bathroom in need of replacing floor and all, but we will tackle that after the new year since it’s just the two of us in the house. Also, I’m looking out the window at our fig tree and the leaves are starting to turn yellow. Frost is expected tonight so today I’ll bring in the plants that will need to winter inside. Happy Fall!
I'm so glad the washer didn't leak! I'm not sure I could stand another water leak. Happy Fall to you too, Sue!
Oh, the joys of homeownership- as my father-in-law would say! We were in a similar situation in 2022 when the dishwasher leaked the entire time we were on vacation. We had to do the giant fans and big plastic zipper doors on the kitchen. We still got to sleep in our beds during the 2 months of reno, but had to turn the dining room into a make shift kitchen. Also, the downside of an 1800s home with additions is that the kitchen linked our bedroom and bath the main living area and kids' rooms, so we had to go outside and around for everything! I do not miss that or envy you right now (but maybe when your gorgeous new bath and bedroom are finished I will)!
I can relate to the fans and zipper doors. We've had both. I was thinking just the other day that I'm thankful that my kitchen is available. The mental image of you having to go outside to get to everything is pretty funny (though probably not at the time). It reminds me of Green Acres. They said they will finish on Wednesday, 11/6. We'll see.
I love Arsenic and Old Lace! What a good idea for Halloween. I watched the 1990 movie Tremors and the 1999 version of The Mummy with my son while he was home for fall break. We're renovating a farm house when I'm not teaching, so my spare time has been severely limited this season, but I have started the spin off series of the Vampire Knit Club- The Vampire Book Club (there's cross over with the characters, which is cute), and I'm knitting a very autumnal Hot Dish Cardi in yarn that my friends dyed (who I introduced you to at SAFF last year). I hope you enjoy Starling House! I really liked it. There was certainly something satisfying in the way she cleaned up that spooky old place :)
We had a great time watching Arsenic and Old Lace this year. The Boris Karloff references are so funny, given that he was doing the stage production at the time. We also love both Tremors (" Run for it? Running's not a plan! Running's what you do once a plan fails!") and The Mummy. I'm enjoying Starling House; I love that the house likes Opal. How's the house coming along?
Sounds like you had a lovely trip. I started October with a hiking trip to Sardinia which was just lovely to have some warm weather and sunshine but it be just the right temperature for hiking. We don’t really have family Halloween traditions but for the last two years our village does a trick or treat where all the parents meet with their kids at the square. I set up tables outside bundle up and take my knitting and chat to the kids and parents. It’s a great way of getting to know everyone as it’s a fairly new development (the longest people have been in nine years and they will complete the house building next year ) I don’t have special reading but I’m currently enjoying. The retreat by Kees Postma
That sounds like such a nice local tradition. I like small town gatherings. Our little town does a fun Christmas parade. Thank you for the book suggestion. My husband was in full time ministry years ago and the burnout is very relatable. I've added The Retreat to my wishlist.😊
I like the starling house. It's based close to me ( well, a couple.e of hundred miles).
I didn't know it was based on a real place, just on the general concept of a dying coal town. I just spent 10 minutes or so looking it up. Harrow's description of the background was worth reading.
Does Ripley's still have the sting ray touch area? How is Bentley's stomach doing? Nothing wrong with a shorter video. :)
Yes, it does. We sat for quite a while watching and touching them as they swam by. Bentley seems to be fine. He probably found something icky in the yard and decided to taste it.
I saw a comment about SAFF that I agree with... "I understand, agree, and support the cancelation, but I am disappointed for myself. " I hope you have a great time at MB, that's one of our favorite beach area to go to.
That's the way to put it. I completely understand. They genuinely had no choice; the decision was out of their hands. But yes, I'm very sad for me. P.S. Myrtle Beach was great!
I agree with you about the fall into Christmas. It's all the -ism, consumerism, commercialism and whatever else ism that causes ppl to not relax. We don't decorate our house until the weekend of Thanksgiving as well!
It just feels like the world is in such a hurry for "the next thing". We've lost the ability, or at least the desire, to take things more slowly and enjoy the moment.
@BedeSisters yes we have and wonder why time is going by so fast....because y'all rushing this that need to be savored and enjoyed and it's almost not enjoyable. However I love Christmas and then the next month is my birthday so for 2 months out of the year I'm flying high or love and peace for all mankind
I would still write the review and have. Like you said it's your opinion and if the people wanting to read the book still want to read it they will. I always believe constructive criticism may do the author some good to improve their skills.
I haven't written a review yet but I'm still thinking about it. You're right that it might me helpful to someone else, even the author.
How sad for that lady! I can’t imagine a marriage ending after 50 years. 😢 Enjoy your time at Myrtle Beach! ❤
I felt so bad for her. She seemed like she was having a hard time with it. I hope she's doing okay.
Hey friend, I'm glad to see you safe. I was hoping to see you at SAFF but I'll take this instead! I'm actually in Charleston watching you know visiting my family and I leave to go back to Texas 10/19
Thank you! I wish I had known ahead of time that you were in SC. We spent SAFF weekend in Myrtle Beach but could have gone to Charleston instead. I would love to see you!
I loved Starling House! Nice choice for spooky season!
I"m a slow reader and usually only get in a little bit of reading at night before I fall asleep. That said, I'm more than halfway through Starling House and it's very good.
I disagree with your eye doctor. I wear progressives and Pair Eyewear did a great job on my progressives. I know other people who wear Progressive and Pair Eyewear has been a great job on their progressive lenses as well. Eye doctors are going to tell you tonight or order your lenses online because they make lots of money off of your buying eyeglasses and lenses from them. Now I will say Pair Eyewear does not replace lenses when your prescription changes so when that happens, I take my glasses to Costco who also does a phenomenal job on replacing my progressive lenses. And for a total of $154 including the $25 fee for using non-Costco glasses I will certainly go there instead of to my ophthalmologist who charges $700. Even with a discount they were willing to give me it was going to be $560 for replacing my progressive lenses.
I'm glad to hear that your prescription was spot on. I might be willing to take another chance with Pair.
I read Ghostly Grounds a few years ago and was also not impressed. I think I gave it 2 starts (which = It was okay.) I didn't write a review. I do recommend the Vampire Knitting Club series. The first book is free on Kindle, and I got the others through my library's Hoopla App. I just finished a very creepy library book titled "We Used to Live Here" by Marcus Kliewer. You can't listen to the audiobook, though, because there are little snippets of Morse code and other clues hidden between the chapters!
I'm glad it's not just me on Ghostly Grounds. I agree that it's "okay, but not great". I just found Vampire Knitting Club on Kindle and I can add the audiobook for under $4. It looks really good and I love fun books for walks. Thank you!
I hadn't thought to take cuttings of my Coleus! Thank you so much for the idea! I hope yours's root well for you. I definitely think you are covered on the Hard Rock shirt. ;-) I always feel weird writing book reviews in general. In your situation I might write a constructive review in regards to the conclusion seemed a little vague and it being odd to you that a lot of the details of making the house a B&B were glossed over. Might be validating if someone else doesn't enjoy the book and goes into the reviews, sees your review and realizes it wasn't just them.
At least one coleus has roots already. I still have hope for more. I haven't written a review yet but I still might. Thank you for the suggestions.
Thank you for including the owl!! I hear them occasionally at home and it always makes me grin.
I'm sitting outside on the porch (catching up on replies!) and I'm listening to a woodpecker. I love all the bird sounds around here.
Sending you good thoughts!! No worries about the dog walks, that is how I start every morning personally. :) Did you submit any projects to the state fair this year?
Yes! I submitted three knitted items (two pairs of socks, one shawl) and three jellies.
