    Rectifier dialed in horribly

    • @Tomcat82
      @Tomcat82 4 года назад

      Not really. Rectos are naturally boomy, fuzzy, and loose, and there’s not much the tone controls can do about it. Attempting to dial out the mud this way results in an unpleasant upper mid harshness. What Rectos really need is a boost pedal or a tube screamer in front to tighten things up, but in my opinion, they’ll still never be as tight or as mean sounding as a Mark equipped with a 5 band graphic eq.

    • @SuperAssasinSteve
      @SuperAssasinSteve 4 года назад

      @@Tomcat82 Both amps have their strong points in my opinion. And even though rectos are known for being loose, I have heard them sound better than this (not boosted, mind you). When I played one they definitely didn't sound this loose, though the one I tried was a reborn model, not a roadster, maybe that's where the difference is?

    • @Tomcat82
      @Tomcat82 4 года назад

      SonicSound You hit the nail on the head there. The Reborn is the brightest (and IMO, the best sounding) Rec ever made, whereas the Roadster is one of the darkest sounding versions. My brother owns a Reborn, and to him, it slightly edges out his Mark V as his favorite amp, but he still needs a tube screamer to give the Reborn enough upper mids and dial out the fuzz and boominess. Even with the tube screamer, I can’t say I’m particularly impressed with his sound. I still think his Mark V sounds far better (and I think the V is probably the worst sounding Mark amp). For the sake of transparency, though, I should disclose that I’m a certified cork-sniffing IIC++ owner, so take my biased and highly spoiled opinion for what it’s worth.

  • @swaybone11

    Why y'all be scoopin' out the mids on your mesas?? takin' out the best part, makin' it sound like generic metal amp.

    • @AdrianNWB
      @AdrianNWB 4 года назад

      Theo Cedar Jones He has the general mid controls on both amps dialed in fairly well. The V shape on the Mark IV 5 band EQ is to tame the mids. Without the V shape on the 5 band EQ, the mids are overbearing. Neither amp sounds overly scooped to my ears.

    • @rtomas47
      @rtomas47 4 года назад

      @@robertmailloux3720 Yes - Nomad 100 combo with mullard preamp tube - but there is a trick. I keep an old thomas organ wah pedal on all the time to counteract the woofy mids of the mesa, plus the neck pickup on my '62 strat - check out my sound at ruclips.net/user/swaybonerocks

    Mark IV all the way. I bought a used Mark IV a couple years ago and just couldn't get it dialed in and it had it just sitting there collecting dust until a couple weeks ago when I switched it back on again after getting some advice about the EQ and other setting and I'm blown away with how good this thing sounds. I run an Ibanez TS out front and the lead channel is just mind blowing with how good it sounds. I'm still working with channel 2 but I think it could be cool for some dirty sounds with some chorus and delay. Channel 1 is that classic Boogie clean which I love.

  • @Albee213
    @Albee213 6 лет назад

    Both sounded very good, but the Roadster could use a overdrive pedal just to tighten up that low end a bit.

    • @Ritolah
      @Ritolah 6 лет назад

      Thanks or the comment. Yeah Mark IV is tight and Recto is "loose" so is deifinitely needs eq or OD to make it tight if you will. It depends what you are looking for of course.

    • @TheGNOSiSproject
      @TheGNOSiSproject 7 лет назад

      It sounds like you have the gain pulled. I tried your settings the other day and they sounded great! The treble at 8 is what makes such a great difference here and adds a lot of distortion - it's what I've been missing ... so thanks! I've only tried with Tweed so far but I imagine it will be more punchy and bassy with Full power! :)

    • @Ashstrodamus1
      @Ashstrodamus1 7 лет назад

      +Szymon Kaczmarek (GNOSiS) I don't see any advantage to full power. I run mine on Tweed 100% of the time. It's louder than one can stand. You've got to be playing arenas to need full power, plus Tweed saves your tubes.

    The MK IV takes serious time to get into. The shared Bass/Mid on R1 and R2 require calm thinking clarity. This is why some people put down the MK IV and favour IIC and III . If you put proper time and understanding into your IV, it will deliver. None of the channels are a 'compromise' . I ran mine for a while with 4 Mazda high plate dissipation 6v6 ( from Watford Valves ) ....Deluxe with PUNCH. Even used it as a Bass Amp ( R1 only ) with ECC82 (lower gain) in preamp and 4 6L6. It is a TANK. Always sounds like Gods Hammer.
