Dragon Fruit Tasting of Tricia and Aussie Gold
Summer ripened to perfection. The Dragon Fruit are having a great season and the first to be ripe are the Tricia and the Aussie gold. The Aussie Gold is a result of my first attempt at grafting dragon fruit and it has been grafted onto a Vietnamese White stem.

Looks great!
@@Backyarddragonfruits thank you mate! 👍
Lots of plants🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱
Summer and dragonfruit flowers go together like ebony and ivory!
@@dougs_urbanfarm 😅 now I have the song stuck in my head. But you're correct
I also was a shadow stalker of Marks Edible backyard on the Daleys forum a long time ago! Looking through his and Lintons collections were the reason i started looking at weird and wonderful fruits, really hope i get to visit one day.
@@dougs_urbanfarm thats a great story. I felt the same while touring through.
Food forest. Really refreshing and sustainable. ❤ Done subscribe to your great channel. Have a relaxing day. I'm hoping to see you my new friend 😊
@@gliceriacastillo6299 thank you very much. 😀
Looks awesome! What fertilizer do you use to produce buds?
@@travelchill7816 G'day, I'm still fairly inexperienced so this year I tried something new. I gave them a massive early prune of new growth and some tipping on old branches because I gave lots of cuttings away. Not long after the pruning I noticed a few buds so I then added liquid potash from bunnings once and the other thing I did differently was keep the roots cool with a layer of sugar cane mulch and compost plus I kept trimming off any new growth. It also seemed to be a hotter summer this year. Yesterday I picked a ripe Tricia and Aussie Gold and will upload a video tomorrow. Thanks for watching 👍
I have visited his garden a few times, it’s a jungle with a lot of tropical exotic plants.
@@turoidownunder8410 Hi Tu. Yes there were so many things which I hadn't seen before. 👍
Speechless….❤
@@hr1893 I picked two fruit just now. I also can't believe having these fruits availiable to us
Thanks for another great video. I think it’s good when new eyes record a space. Seeing marks amazing collection from your point of view adds another angle.
@TemperateTropicalDownUnder thanks again mate. I was so intrigued by everything that I spotted a few things new to Mark that he hadn't noticed yet such as the Costada fruit. Have you tasted Jabos before?
What an amazing tour through Mark’s food forest 🤩🌱 Thank you Paul for taking the time to show us this truly inspirational collection of fruit trees.
@joestropicals6760 thanks Joe. It was my pleasure. You're right, inspirational is a great way to describe it.
@ 🙌🏾
Wow! That's really impressive for Melbourne!
@Godjerb for sure mate 👍
Awesome collection. Did the little caterpillar on the chocolate berry add to the flavour? 😂
@@andrewnyiri ahaaa!! I only noticed it on playback. I was waiting to see if someone noticed it 😅 You must've been watching in 4k for sure! 👌👍😀
@UrbanBounty haha. Yep 4k on a big TV. I picked my first wax jambu today and had a number of bites before I noticed the fruit fly larvae, sure I ate a few.
@@andrewnyiri damn, those fruit fly get into everything.
Very impressive
Easy for picking the figs too.
@jackhart1883 that's what I was thinking too. This is at my friend's garden but it would be easy to pick for sure
Awesome collection and thank you for the tour. Is Mark willing to sell a rooted cutting of the Himalayan Honeysuckle for the right price? 🙏🏼
Hi Marissa. Is that name another name for the chocolate berry? I will check with Mark. Cheers
@@UrbanBounty yes 😊🙏🏼
@marisaphoenix1893 cool, ok I checked with Mark, and he said that he is going to research how to propagate these plants. 👍
@ that’s great! Pass on my thanks 😊
@@marisaphoenix1893 will do
Wow what a collection! I quite enjoyed this tour. Cool to see the guabiju
Thank you mate! Yes I hope Mark does a taste testing on that fruit when it becomes ripe. I hope a bird doesn't get it!
Wow what an amazing job Marc’s done. To many awesome trees to comment on Glad to hear you busted your jabo cherry and it was a double, sabara and Grimal fruit worlds sportsman’s double 😂
@@Coolclimatetropicalfruits 😄 I haven't been nervous trying a fruit since a durian 14 years ago but I was nervous this time for a different reason. I've been fussing over my jabo collection for years now so there was a lot riding on the taste. Massive relief to find out they taste awesome 👌
What a neat collection. Couldnt do that in my zone but it comes with different benefits.
@@LoganShelton-rh3lp thanks Logan. Yes you are correct that each zone has it's own benefits! Cheers
Amazing collection!
For sure 👍
Wow that press is a beast Paul, you wouldn't want to catch a finger in the rollers. I'm impressed by your ice cream making abilities 👍
@@lyonheart84 yes, when I was first looking for a sugar cane press I found an electric one for a similar price but I wouldn't be able to relax with kids around. There's probably quite a few accidents in other countries with the electric ones. Doug put me onto the ice cream machine and apparently mango is the best but I haven't tried it yet.
Now that is a sight to be seen. Very impressive!
@@TemperateTropicalDownUnder thanks mate! Dragons could be grown commercially in Victoria I reckon
@ 💯 people don’t know
Wow, they look absolutely incredible!
@@PeterEntwistle Hi Peter! Yes they are. I don't think I'll ever get used to their beauty mate
Oh wow, that is so stunning flower display.
Hello and yes, it is amazing and only a few years ago I had never heard of dragon fruit before. It looks like you have lots of grear vids. I subscribed. I enjoy the UK edible channels very much
Amazing, all your dragonfruits collection looks stunning 👍
Thank you mate, it takes up a small space but gives lots of enjoyment for me and my family. Cheers 👍
Whoa, how much you charging to watch this amazing show!
Haha, I wish I could have watched it longer too but I had to just get the camera out quickly before I went to work. I'm usually late at this time of year cos the garden looks best early morning. Cheers mate
Lots of dragon fruits on their way Looking good 👍🏻
Yes mate! Great season! 👍
That was awesome 👌 Love how the Creami can turn things into icecream. But that was a really nifty one 😀
Cheers and thanks, the sugar can is surprisingly hardy to grow too.
How many days did this take to accomplish??😅
😅👌 including the growing of the canes..
Fantastic video again Paul, thanks mate.
@@Anthony-t1d6h thank you for the very kind comment mate. Its a big encouragement for me. Cheers
Our ninja creami is worth its weight in gold, im gonna plant a big patch of sugar cane out at the farm so ill be sure to try that.
Thanks mate, it was you who gave me the tip to buy a ninja. Since buying the juice extractor, the sugar cane importsnce ranking climbed up near the top 🤣
Wonderful Paul..I want some of that mate.🎉
It really is good, the trouble is trying to stop eating too much of it! 👍
I absolutely like your garden 👍😍 especially dragon food so much fruits they are amazing 😋😋😋

That ice cream looks really tasty, Paul! That sugar cane press looks really cool! And also wow, your dragonfruit is loaded with fruit, looks like it’s going to be a bumper crop this year!
@@PeterEntwistle hi Peter. Are your purple sugar canes getting thicker now? I was surprised to see them doing well because I was told that only the green is hardy but it looks like they are all strong. I recently put in some black variety canes too. Cheers
@@UrbanBounty I brought the purple sugar cane into the house for the winter and they have all shrivelled up and dried out. I'm not sure if it will come back now 😢
@PeterEntwistle ahh sorry to hear that. That is a shame. It could be interesting to try the green and see if there is a difference in hardiness
@ Yeah, I would like to try a regular green one. I'll have to see if I can have a go at rooting one. I think it was a combination of underwatering and the dry indoor conditions that caused it to die. I probably should have cut it right back so it wouldn't use as much water. Or maybe left it in the greenhouse with the heater.
@PeterEntwistle if you can get a few canes you could also try to leave one in ground and give it a very thick layer of mulch over the top of the ground
Great video Paul. It looks very tasty mate. Although I don’t grow sugar cane I have looked into these machines wondering if it’s worth while growing it. I think yes after your video.
@@TemperateTropicalDownUnder thank you. I delayed buying one for years but it's getting so much use now and providing heaps of enjoyment. I found another spot for some more sugar cane in the garden now. Sugar cane is pretty hassle free to grow in Melbourne too
@@UrbanBounty man! I need a bigger property 🤪
@@TemperateTropicalDownUnder I know the feeling. If I ever won the lottery I would try to buy the neighbours and extend haha..
@@UrbanBounty My thoughts exactly hahaha
That dragonfruit is amazing. Money well spent on the extractor. Now i have to buy a Ninja creamy.
G'day mate! The Ninja Creamy is awesome. You first need to process and freeze something then the next day add it to the ninja and somehow it comes out creamy
G'day! What an awesome thing to be able to do. I have a Creami too and it gets a good workout from my fruit harvests. Love sorbet. The garden is looking fantastic as usual. All the best. Daz.
Hi Daz! Good to hear that you've also been using the creami. Excellent machine. Thanks for dropping by mate 👍
Damn! That looks delicious!!!
@@marisaphoenix1893 it's so nice in summer and easy to make 😀

@marisaphoenix1893 Hello. I don't know too much about them however I planted them in loosened soil, put a fence up near them and I water them a fair bit. I also sprinkle dynamic lifter amongst the canes a few times per year
Now that looks delicious Paul!
@@Pat6648 it really is. It's just the right amount of sweetness.
Wow Paul the idea is brilliant By itself or mixed with any slightly sour fruit would be amazing I hope the sugarcanes you sent me work out in my climate 👍🏻

Lovely to see some old family moves. I believe we still have a huge number of super 8 movies that should be converted to modern media , it's one of those jobs that never gets done. Nice to see some wonderful flower displays as well in those days
@@lyonheart84 Gday Brett, thanks for the nice comment. This footage means a lot to me. @peterbell3610 I'd bring back that style if I had any hair left
Great memories unfortunately we only have a few photos of Nannas gardens 🌴
Thanks Mark. You still have plenty of memoroes though I bet.
Really blessed with your climate being able to grow a decent range of subtropicals AND cool climate deciduous fruits that require chill hours 👍
That's true and I'm glad that I found out because most growers only know about the chill hour fruits here. My area gets around 890 chill hours from what I have read about it. My next video will be from my grandfathers old super 8 camera because he used to film his garden in youtube style from the 1950s til the 1980s and when I started making the video the first fruit that appeared was a banana flower around 1960. I couldn't believe it
