Upgrading a PRS SE into a Core PRS

I'm taking a PRS SE and doing upgrades to get it as close as I can to a PRS USA Core Tremonti guitar. genuine question: do anyone here had ever change the se ce 24 tremolo into a fixed bridge? I don't like pauls guitar because the coil split is so confusing and too expensive at the same time, I don't like se 594 either. im thinking between se custom24 and ce 24 but i don't like tremolo.

    I've got 9 guitars. Every guitar sounds just different, but not better or worse than the others. I do (cheap) mods for better playability (action setup and nut change if necessary). Even locking tuners (which are fine to have) are not worth the money for me. On my Yamaha 612 they are stock, that's okay. But on my cheap Squier affinity strat from 98 I have no stability problems at all, the same on my also cheap Harley Benton SC 450 plus. I am no pro and there is no problem to tune my guitars once in a week, besides I am a bit lazy and last but not least I don't have money to waste. To me all guitars are beautiful instruments no matter what color, shape, etc. Looks don't bother me really. For working musicians things are quite different. They need reliable tools and some mods are making their lives much easier and looks may play an important role. Nevertheless I followed your explanations with interest. Thanks!

    Sorry man, when you said you were going to stain a beautiful rosewood fretboard to make it look like ebony (and by the way ebony is black only when attacked by bacteria) I had to stop listening....

    Cool video and sweet upgrades. The PRS SE are (usually) very nicely built and quality neck+body so with upgrades like you did they really turn into premium instruments. I did locking tuners and tusq nut on mine, and also the lampshade knobs. Im still considering which pickups to upgrade with. I hadn't considered these but now theyre definitely on the list of options. It sounds great.

    You did a great job with this, i have the same guitar with a alternative 8 and a jazz with a 500k push pulls and it makes it feel like an 4k prs. How come you didnt do a 500k push pull pot upgrade? Also i bought the longer prs se pickup rings and it looks better.

    I'm 1 minute in and you say your most desired guitar is the tremonti. That's music to my ears as im watching this video with a used and a new prs tremonti pickups looking to be installed. That's why I'm watching this to learn to install these badboys.

      How did the tremonti pickups work out? I have a Core Tremonti with the trem bridge. The bridge pickup is unbelievably hot. I might swap it out.

    I got me a PRS USA Tremonti. Love the guitar.... except the bridge pickup. I immediately changed it out for a 59/09 because my goodness, there is no high end at all on the USA Tremonti pickup. It totally explains Mark's live sound (which has always sounded muffled to me).

    Wow. Thanks so much. I see why you would consider a PRS Tremonti your dream guitar. I'm the same. Love that tone. And I think it's a tone you do not get from any other guitar. Never heard anything close. I play a Tremonti SE and am exactly as you considering to change the pickups, since that's a fraction of the price. So thanks so much for the video because it actually demonstratet, that the pickups seem to make up most of the sound although in direct comparison of an SE and a core unplugged, the wood seems to contribute as well. None the less, I think I'm going to try to change the pickups first. Thanks again. Great video.

    I bought a used (brand new condition) 2023 US made PRS Mccarty 594 s2 double cut stock and paired it with my Halo double delay, EQ, chorus,metal zone, booster and noise gate and it sounds really good. The distortion is very clear and crispy and the acoustic sound angelic. I don't want the PRS core anymore and I sold my Gibson classic 2023 after I had my PRS McCarty 594 s2

    Unless it has actual 14 k gold parts, jewels embedded in it and owned by Eddie Van Halen, NO GUITAR is worth 5 grand, period. Stop being stupid and watch your money. Great guitars can be bought used all day long for under a grand and strings changed, setup and made to sound every bit as good as the most expensive ones. I own only USA made PRS, Fenders and Gibsons and yes, each one was bought used under a grand.

    Thanks for the video! I moded a Tremonti SE and did hot rodded Seymour Duncan pick ups, Tremonti potentiometer switches from John Mann from core Tremonti ($100), knobs, hip shot locking tuners and tusq nut. I also did input jack and toggle switch (very worth while upgrade) I had a technician do a lot of the work and probably would skip the nut replacement next time, I had to bring it back twice and have the nut and frets tweaked for no buzzing, I think just the locking tunners would of been fine for tuning stability. After upgrades I have $1500 with the guitar, labor, tools and parts, but it sounds amazing and less than 1/3 of core Tremonti. Skipping the nut even though $10, was $300 in labor and tools. So could of done the whole project for $1200 being I bought the guitar used For $1500 I would of sold it and bought an American S2 with American electronics in hindsight

  • @Spidouz
    @Spidouz 5 месяцев назад

    1:39 Yep. I got the chance to own and try many PRS, from the SE, to US Core and even Private Stock (not mine). And believe it or not, they’re all worth their price tag. I know, it seems crazy, but it is… however, it’s a law of diminishing returns. Meaning that the higher we get the more expensive it gets on an exponential scale. So yes a US Core or even Private Stock will be better than your SE or S2. No doubt about that… but how much better? 15%, 10%, 5%,… would it be worth $2k, $5k or $10k more? Maybe, maybe not, it will all depend on your priorities and your budget you can afford to spend on a new guitar. I have an US Core Signature (PRS Brent Mason), as well as SE (Singlecut 245) and I’m planing to buy more PRS… which includes SE Silver Sky, SE NF3, a S2 594SC and a PRS Special. And yes, the PRS Special is $5k… ouch, it hurts the wallet, but I really want it as my “dream guitar”. So I’m gonna save for quite a long time to be able to afford it… and in the mean time, I’m gonna get some SE such the Silver Sky and NF3. Why? Because I even prefer the SE version to the US versions. The only thing I regret on SEs (generally), is the lack of Locking Tuners…. But it’s not a big deal we can easily upgrade them. And then pickups could be changed anyway. A friend of mine at the studio has a Private Stock Santana II, and he changed the pup for some SD P-Rails… And we know that pickups are probably contributing to 80 to 90% of the tone (some people would even claim 100%, but that’s another debate). So what really matters is to pick a guitar that feels great, feels comfortable, easy to play… the rest could be changed or fixed. So it’s not crazy to buy a SE and upgrade it. For instance, I’m gonna get my SE 245SC modified to have two 4-positions switches and two P-Rails (I know I could use the Triple Shot mount to avoid the selectors, but I really like to have a selector dedicated to the pup settings: Rail, P90, Parallel, Series…. Something like the old PRS 513 that we had at the studio). Long story short: cheaper PRS could even be a good opportunity if you want to mod them, to build “your own”. So it’s not a bad choice at all… buying a SE could even be because it’s a better choice (like Silver Sky with 8.5” radius instead of 7.25”), or even the fact they don’t have US version anymore (such the new NF3). So it’s absolutely not just for people that “can’t afford the real guitar”… only people that have no knowledge about PRS SE quality would think so. My 2¢

    I like what you've done. I only hesitate at the common phrase "UP-grade" I have altered a few of my guitars, but I know my CHANGES were for me. Would Fender consider the changes an upgrade in a manner that can be tested? I like your changes but knowing Mr. Smith and how he pays attention to detail, Would he say you made changes / alterations or would he see them as UPGRADES?? I am a teacher and former debate team member, So choice of words matter. ie, your only girl may not like knowing you refer to her as your Number 1 girl.

    Great job! I actually own a Tremonti Core model and this same PRS SE guitar you upgraded. I think I may do the same with it. The only difference I’ll probably notice is the Tremonti has a 25” neck scale and the 245 is roughly 24 1/2” so I will probably notice a difference on string tension but other than that it’ll be worth it.
