How the heck do you install the RC bag to the frame???? The instructions aren’t too helpful about how exactly to install the straps. We have a GT Grade, but that shouldn’t matter.
Are you connect to Lyon Equipment at Jn 38? I’m a retired caver.
Never get a zippered frame bag. They ALWAYS break when the surface get a little rough and a bit of strain is put in the zipper. I've had them all, the Ortlieb, Apidura and Revelate Design. It's all the same. Get the roll top and save yourself the money and headache of having it fall apart 2two weeks into the bikepacking trip.
Thanks! Great review.
Are you able to pop those little inserts out easily, say if you were to buy a new rack which had bigger bars?
Anybody know of a reference for changing to the other cog? - nothing in the manual
You mean the dropouts? You can get the Salsa PDF howto's from Revolution Bikes. Do a search for "salsa alternator flat mount dropout instructions".
Very helpful. Thanks!
Great overview! Thank you
My zipper broke after a year and there’s been no way to get it fixed. Super frustrating. I love their products generally but this one is a fail.
Awesome video. For someone just getting into this. You rock.
What about the panniers, u didn't even mention them.
very informative
Thank you for this very helpful comparison!
always hoping ortlieb gonna give us bright and colorfull inner layer for al their bag, it’s struggle when looking for something in the dark
Be nice if they did a package deal for lets say 3 x items
Ortlieb is half the product as Rockgeist!
Why these adapters? Imagine a forkpack directly boltet to the fork for insane drag savings.... I dont buy these.
Is there a way to lock those bags to the rack to keep someone from stealing them when your off the bike?
That's really a helpful and quick insight. Thanks!
Regarding fork pack, I prefer plus version made of Cordura which is better material then this nylon used in bikepacking series.
you are a champ. Easily and carefully you described them with critical differences. Thank you!
"much much better"? You sure it wasn't much much much better?? You're look like an idiot over selling product. Much much much much so. Knock off the hyperbole and just be straight, your audience isn't much much stupid.
I'm trying to attach the clip to the bag. Someone tried to steal my panniers. Help please
So Ortielb copied Arkel's cam-lock... good idea.
Camera for away from product
I wonder if the gal's butt was causing more of the bag sway than the pedaling side-to-side motion.
Arkel mounting system puts Ortlieb to shame
nice video, thanks! I have a question with regards to the frame top tube bag: my bike frame is just a couple of cm too small for it according to the template (just one or two); do you think I could fit it if I squeeze it lengthwise a bit, or is it fully rigid? I won't mind the volume lost like this, I just want to know if I could fit it - I have nowhere to test this, thank you!

good vid
Fantastic film guys and some inspirational shots
Is once installed forkpack mount can be used on other bikes?
thank you for this video, nice and professional! I just got the QL3.1 for my daily commuting and the QL 2.1 for bikepacking trips :)
yeah, I'm thinking of one both too before I go on a trail trip rather than 2 of the same. I want to commuter one for my regular city trips and the QL 3.1 seems way better for that.
thanks a lot, I didn't know how to move the hooks. very useful post. ciao from Venice, Italy.
Upper income class folk are often making an effort to kill the dreams, besides also not spreading opportunity and wealth to the lower income class as THEY are also self centered and greedy and steal people's spirit of freedom from them.
My fav bike is my Surly Steamroller, fixed wheel. So this machine has my attention. How much ?
I didn't know David Bowie does review on Ortlieb products. JK, but seriously tho, you do look a bit like David Bowie. :) Thanks for the vid review.
the new back roller pro does not fit well on the Tubus Grand Expedition. the bags dimensions are larger, and the lower 'hook' does not have optimal contact with the rack. have yet to do a fully loaded test.
Interesting! Have you tried turning the lower anchoring hook spacer by 90 degrees to gain an additional couple of mm? Or inverting the lower anchoring rail?
Snapped the clip on the Quick Lock system the first time I used it. Other than that, a fantastic product.
What bike is that in the back?
Imagine that great handlebar bag if you could attach it to the saddle like a classic Carradice.
Hello, I have one qestion, will this bag work with front suspension bike?I mean it will not be on the way, and stuck on the tire, and cause you to fall of the bike!Because it looks that is few cm apart of tire when is loaded...Thanks in advance
Couple questions, can bar bag be lower for aero bars? Can seat bag strap on carbon rails and seatpost? Thanks!
No, you'd struggle to mount the QR pack lower but a traditional Handle-Bar Pack (9L) will work fine. Regarding carbon post and rails and the Seat-Pack... structurally there isn't anything to worry about as long as the seat-post has a normal round shape but it would be worth taping contact points first to protect your investment! It's remarkable how much a bit of grit can wear a component if there's a bit of movement ;-)
Have a look at the Tubus Tara, which has an 18kg payload but is currently quite difficult to find
@@LyonCycle thank You for Your answer🙂
Hi lots of really good information......one critisim ..sound quality.....terrible.can barely hear him
Peter, I couldn’t agree more. I messed up and my external mic wasn’t recording so it was built in camera sound unfortunately. Plus the estate around me is a building site! We have grand plans to improve our content though, watch this space
Great job on this video. Very informative. Thank you.
Great video. Very informative and well covered. I have a 56 cm Salsa Cutthroat. What size frame Cutthroat is being used in your video? I am trying to confirm if the Ortlieb Frame Pack RC Toptube 4L bag will fit. My top tube spacing/length is approximately 454.4 mm (18"). Thanks very much.
Hi Marco, you could find a template to print and cut to test the real shape and size against your frame. See description at Frame-Pack Toptube (Tizip version, it has the same size as per specs) page.
Got mine 2 years ago love it for rain and bad conditions and as a nice beater bike but I enjoy riding it so much it's my bike with the most miles! It does slow you down in the flats and descents but given the efficiency of the single speed and how you just cruise and maybe rest up or conserve energy the more efficient nature of single speed means my times for the same ride are always slightly faster with this bike.
I think I'd go with the RC because I've always found zips to be the weak point of any bikepacking bag I've owned. But maybe Ortlieb zips really are bombproof.
The Velocity bag seems so impractical. No storage quickly accessible on the outside and hard to take your laptop out in the train.
