good reason...man. I'll want one.
I have two of those - 98 with 21” front wheel and completely stock 99. Don’t see any need to upgrade. 100% happy with the bikes. Hall, pivot, shaft grease and gearbox bearing replacement and general look into stuff in there every 80kkm and you’re golden. Engines will last 300-400kkm with no problem. Bike keeps up with the modern GSs on curvy roads and toasts in the twistiest everything else if only the tarmac is anything but perfect. Although I have quite an experience off road this bike fuckin hates sand esp with street tires. Good fuel economy and enough power to loose license in an instant. I have covered stretches of autobahn with panniers doing 180-190kmh - the bike was just like on rails. In general nowadays as of 2024 the whole r1100 lineup is an incredible deal - rt, rs, s - can be had for little money and these bikes do deliver. ❤❤❤
Brilliant commentary, meeting every literary standard, a true poet in love with his bike! 😅 I ride a 95 GS with 70.000 k, running smoothly.
This is a great video man. Makes me want to buy one of these things
Temporary motorcyclist.
My 96 r1000gs is older than I am, and ticked over to 175000kms today, oldie but a goodie, tourer and commuter. standard headers, de-cat and bosson slip on, haven't heard another gs that sounds as good
Because I live in the Netherlands I bought a 1150 for it’s sixth gear if I want to do nice twisty roads I have to ride minimum 300 km of highway. Other than that I like the looks of the 1100 but I am missing a sixth gear. Nice bike do 🤙🏽
I know gs1100 has issues with transmission but is the dry clutch relable if u use it in heavy off-road situations? Or it's just gonna get too hot and u r fucked up?
Great video, congrats for the image and sound quality
곰 안나오냐?
Good job Levi. I'm glad I got you thinking. I wish you many more safe trips. Uncle Robby.
Great to see you are having fun with it! Got a 97' last year and already put it through the tet in croatia, hungary and poland. Great gravel machine but really struggled with deeper sand in poland. After my recent trip I will be downgrading to a lighter bike for solo travel though, got into some situations where the gs was just too heavy to get out alone.
How was the TET Croatia? And what bike will you get after?
Jai une GS de 1998, cest la moto la plus attachante que jai eu, il me tarde de partir avec pour une ballade de plusieurs jours, merci pour cette vidéo !
Since when do you have the bike? I hope you can enjoy many more long trips!
moto brother, we have the same machine and the same gloves.... respect....
Great minds think alike
The R1200r is not just a motor, it is a state of maturity and that is why it is not accepted by immature boys but by mature men....
True brother!
Over the summer I was in Thailand. It was freaking hot so I thought of leaving the gear off as I felt particularly confident with my bike there… A day later I had a crash and except for some small bruises I had nothing because I was wearing my Kevlar jeans and gloves… instead of all the other tourists with bandages everywhere
Great choices are made by great people
the production quality of this video is really good for a channel of this size
Thank you 🙏🏼
@@two-wheel-tales you’re super underrated keep it up!!!
When you ride a 115cc underbone in downtown Athens to save time and fuel and never reach 60kph, you only need a helmet, cause 90% of the time you're passing stopped traffic. That's what biking is in the majority of the world, a way to avoid traffic and save money on fuel.
Your riding your bike to a job interview wearing full leathers and race boots. Not suitable for an interview.
They make over suits.
If there is a will, there is a way. But I can understand where you’re coming from
Tbh if the person doing the interview has any common sense, the fact that you're wearing full leathers and boots on your way to a job interview goes to show that you've got safety on your mind. It shouldn't be too hard to spin that into something to your advantage. When I worked as a Rail Traffic Controller having a motorcycle to commute was seen as an upside, because it meant you were much less likely to get stuck in traffic and thus more able to get to the control room on short notice. On the flip side, we were not allowed to commute using public transit.
You should become a salesman! Perfect example of framing the situation to your hand!
@@fermitupoupon1754 Id rather wear commuter style protection than valintino rossi track gear
I am like a full grown child😂😂 in my head when i wear my gear i have a clone trooper armor on and when i go on a bike ride its a bit like i am a trooper on a speeder bike😂😂. I know its a bit childish but it does keep me save.
If it works, it works. Aren’t we all boys with big boy toys?
Dress for the slide, not the ride. The thing is, I know I'm a safe rider. But I also know others aren't as safe as I am and I do share the road with them. I wear gear, because I acknowledge that I share the road with a million idiots at any given time. I also understand that those idiots don't even have to be near me, maybe their car leaks oil or diesel, maybe they're just antisocial twirps that throw crap out of the window onto the road. Maybe they're a farmer who drove his dirty tractor down the road after spreading manure on a field and left a dirty, slippery road in their wake. Maybe they're a lazy trucker who didn't properly cover their load and they lost a bunch of sand. As for gear being too hot, have 2 sets of gear. I have summer gear that's very well ventilated, and 3-season gear that's waterproof and comes with removable thermal liners.
We have a common view about the human species, ride safe 💪🏽
I'd rather sweat than bleed, simple as that ;)
It's the same for me when I long board I mean I'm hitting speeds upwards 35 mph sometimes with no breaks. One mess up or someone else not paying attention I could be in for a lot of pain. Equal to that a motorcycle can give
@@societyisboring Exactly! As a downhill rollerskater too, I know how painful road rash can be even at low speeds...I don't want to imagine at mc speeds!
Downhill rollerskating sounds so much fun! I wish we had hills in the Netherlands
It is often said that everyone eventually crashes but this is false. There is a cost - benefit where the cost is garenteed but the benefit of gear is not always realised. For me, helmet, boots and gloves is a no brainer on just about every ride. I also wear a jacket all the time but it is a sacrifice when it is hot. Riding jeans i wear most of the time but sometimes i don't if i want to wear dress pants at my destination. I think ATGAT is over simplified. There is a big diference between buzzing down to the park at 20 mph in shorts t-shirt and running shoes (which i admit i have done half a dozen times) or riding on a highway at 70mph without a Jacket.
Very true! Dress for the ride you’re taking. Risk is a part of life. But always try to make good decisions.
I am very very grateful I wore a full leather when I had my accident. I've never rode a motorcycle since, cause in rehab I saw people who had lost both arms or had other serious injuries.
Very good to hear that you wore full leathers. I hope the recovery goes well! All the best 🙏🏼
Really interesting video, surprised it doesn't have a lot more views!
Much appreciated ❤️
I am torn on whether to go for an 1100GS or 1200GS. I used to own an R850R but sold that and bought a Triumph Thunderbird 900 which is too nice to ride in the winter. What made you buy the 11?
For me the 1100 was the perfect choice because of the price point. If you’re going to use it as a second bike in wintertime, I think the 11 is the best!
@@two-wheel-tales thanks for the info, much appreciated 😊
And also, if you go for a 1200, you should go for a 2008 and up if I remember correctly. The earlier models have a flawed abs system. Which makes the price difference between a good 1100 and 1200 even greater
Nice machines combination
One of the things I like most about my '94 1100GS is the ease it takes luggage. Full loaded up with holiday gear it still handles great and going through the Pyrenees is still a blast.
It’s a true beast. I’ll be going to the Pyrenees fully loaded in 3 weeks again! Can’t wait
@@two-wheel-tales Lucky you. Some N260 touring? Have fun.
Mooi ruitje 😂 👍
Als je dat maar weet! 🙄
Just bought one same colour here in Australia. Only gripe is the soft front suspension I’ll probably upgrade this and a pipe that’s stained beyond repair.
I can imagine, for me the front suspension is set up perfectly.
He sounds like ictimus prime
Sport bikes don't take away from the journey. It's the rider who takes away and gives back. All on hownto ride and what your looking or at
You’re absolutely right, for me sport bikes just didn’t do it anymore. I’ve taken my cbr600 on multiple holidays so I know that it’s possible from my own experience.
I've put 50k on mine (it's at 90k)...for me its that no road/track is out of bounds. Couple that with the telelever and the comfort and you just don't need to stop (does anyone want to stop a good thing). Nice film work (and enthusiasm)👍👌
The telelever was an eye opener 👀
I think this is one of the best power to weight ratio retro bikes in this cc class. If there is one better let me know.
It’s the best 🥇
I was also looking for a Kawasaki W800, A Triumph Speed Twin 900 and a Royal Enfield 650 interceptor but while they may more have the retro vibe they also weigh more and and have less power. The Kawasaki is lighter and more power. And if you don't look after these mentioned motorbikes the chrome will look very nasty.
Schön da im Rothaargebirge…wenn mal in der 🇨🇭bist melde dich…Grüsse von ner 98er GS
I’ll come by next summer 🫡
@@two-wheel-tales dann fahr mer n paar schöne Strassen ab. Grüsse aus Vitznau am Vierwaldstätter See
do you think it could make it to 190kmph? I'm trying to decide between this and the xsr700
It will do! But you don’t buy this bike to go 190 in my opinion 😅
@@two-wheel-tales Yeah I'm not necessarily planning on going 190kmh all the time, but maybe something like 160kmh every once in a while. i'd hope that it can comfortably do that, yknow just to have fun and do a little pull for a couple of kms or to pass a car or something like that. do you think it'd do that comfortably or should I look for something with some more pep to it?
It will do! You don’t need a bigger bike. Let me know what you’ve bought 💪🏽
Well handschoentjes aan he #OmeRobbie
Just came across your channel. I like your style
Thanks! Really appreciate it 🙏🏼
That's a great tribute to your R1200R! 😎 Sorry to hear you've sold it,but I hope you enjoy the GS. I'm about to move to a new city, and I'm glad my R1200R is coming with me! 🙂
Thank you!🙏🏼 it’s the best companion to bring. Good luck moving to your new home!

@@two-wheel-talesit was the home on the road bit. I rode an 80/7 for many years and at times it was my only home❤ Thanks for reminding me it’s about time to get back on a Boxer❤
I have a old 96 model and the handling is still great
Great choice! How long do you have it?
@@two-wheel-tales I have owned it for nearly a year 👍🏻
We have a saying in Greece....:at the end we all get a GS "
Greeks were always known for their great thinkers, seems you are right again with bikes 😜
@@two-wheel-tales i have the 94 model, after many years without a motorcycle.....2 thing's to notice: first is the hall sensor, replace it with a water proof one (about 120 e)and second the bearing's on the Shaft (about 200 e) and you re done! I hope i wrote everything correctly 😂
It is International, in Poland we will have simillar end ;)
It's hard to find good riding videos about Z650RS. It's a wonderful bike, I love it. Thank you for the video. I really like to start recording my own videos with my Z650RS, but IDK where to start or what to buy.
It’s great to hear you enjoy the videos! I use an insta360rs. Great little action cam. I record my audio with an old school zoom h1n. You can start with a free video editing software like davinci resolve. Let me know if you’d like to know more!
Love the soundtrack music. I bought the 50th anniversary edition, Red and Brown. Love just looking at it. Being in my 60s, the style is what attracted me to this bike. Reminds me of my dad's motorcycle he rode in the 70s. Perfect power and handling for me. Just wish my knees would love the bike as much as I do. Thanks for making the review,
Thanks for watching and commenting! The red/brown model is absolutely stunning. Enjoy the ride and stay safe.
Hallo...
Hi There! Personally I use engine blipping for more spirited riding. I've never had any problems with it. But to be fair, I'm not a mechanic!
Giuseppe Plaza
The r1200r is the 5th bike i had, so not many, but I think it's the best one i had and i will keep it as long as i can.
Enjoy the beast and ride safe!
Specs all say the fuel tank is 25 litres but mine seems to be 18 .
That's strange, how did you figure out you only have 18 litres?
Older plastic tanks were bigger by 2 litres afaik. The standard steel one is 21 me thinks. Problem is you can’t sip all of the fuel out.
@@motooilermotooiler9597 earlier in the year I put diesel in the tank by mistake when I was touring (Doh ! 😖) , a van came out and completely pumped out the contents of the tank , when i refuelled I looked at the receipt and it said 18 litres , the tank is the standard item , weird 🤔 , mines a metal tank btw .
Has your bike got the standard silencer ?
Yes it's bone stock!
