Dan The Plan - Alan Hull
This song is by the very talented Alan Hull of Lindisfarne fame, who died in 1995 of a coronary thrombosis, aged 50. It comes as a bonus track on his re-issued album Pipedream.
I'm not sure of the origin of the song but it may have been prompted or influenced by the notorious Poulson affair that occurred in the UK in the early Seventies, concerning building plans and corruption in local government. T Dan Smith was one of the principals involved. The affair also appears to have been the inspiration for the 1996 BBC television drama series Our Friends In The North.

I Only Want To See You Smile - Kevin Coyne

Kevin Coyne could, perhaps, only have come out of the Sixties and Seventies British music scene. His sad, savage, thought-provoking songs, delivered in a unique voice were unlike anything else around. He had the power to draw raw emotions from a deep subconscious well. Kevin's experience working in a psychiatric hospital and with alcoholics left an indelible mark on his life and songs. In later...

Kevin Coyne's songs often dealt with the night side of nature and struggles against extreme states of mind. Here, from his album Dynamite Daze, he offers an inspirational song - as he encourages friends, despite it all, to let the sun shine through.
Are We Dreaming? - Kevin Coyne
Просмотров 28 тыс.14 лет назад
Kevin Coyne's raw, poignant, thought-provoking songs sometimes stared into the abyss and questioned all our realities as in this song Are We Dreaming? from the album Dynamite Daze. One of the great original songwriters and performers and still gigging up to the end, Kevin died in Germany in 2004.
Detox Mansion - Warren Zevon

A great funny-sad song from Warren Zevon. Black humour never sounded so good. You feel the lyrics bear the weight of experience but, as always, with his distinctive light touch. One of the great all-rounder songwriters who could craft and perform any type of song. Warren Zevon died in 2003 but left a wonderful legacy of music. This song can be found on the album Genius - The Best Of Warren Zevon.

Chicken Wing - Kevin Coyne

Kevin Coyne was known for his deep and dark songs but here shows his great sense of humour, cutting loose with a rollicking stomper - Chicken Wing from Marjory Razorblade. Catch this song now before it is snapped up to be used in an ad for a fast food chain. Kevin had many talented musicians in his band, including Zoot Money and Andy Summers - later of The Police - to name but two. This site de...

Kevin Coyne's surreal stream-of-consciousness songs got to the heart of the matter in a direct and powerful way. Another example of his art here from the 1973 album Marjory Razorblade - Good Boy.

Kevin Coyne was one of the most honest and original songwriters ever to enter popular music yet never became widely known. His passionate, edgy, spontaneous performances were and are unlike anything else around. Kevin spent his latter years in Southern Germany up until his death in 2004. This track is from his great 1973 album Marjory Razorblade.

Songwriting legend John Hiatt, slide guitar genius Ry Cooder, British music icon Nick Lowe and percussion session supremo Jim Keltner formed a short-lived supergroup called Little Village and recorded an album of the same name which appeared in 1992, containing this song.
Vigilante Man - Ry Cooder and David Lindley

There are many versions of this Woody Guthrie song but I have always liked this live version by Ry Cooder and David Lindley. Their twin guitars drain every bitter drop of poignancy from those desperate times. Magical guitar work from the maestros. The art work is from a Depression Art Gallery: www.english.illinois.edu/maps/depression/artgallery.htm

This is just appreciation for beauty: no politics, no gripes. Just understanding that this beautiful thing happened within our lifetimes.
Amazing
Drums change this song a lot (not in a good way).

Everytime Jimmy Carter gets one of those gospel moments and edges closer to the edge of the stage, it takes five years off the stage managers life.
Wow, spirit filled room🎉

Best song ever.
Lyrics See the photographs strewn around me Looks through the windows, they need cleaning See the lady by the bower Sits there for hours She is dreaming (x3) See the tram cars, see the steeple See the crumbling aged people Walk in side ways through the bushes It’s a nice place If you’re dreaming (x2) Are you dreaming? Heat the bells go, they’re always ringing Take no notice, just start singing A passing melody, a little nightmare It was nothing I was dreaming (x2), truly dreaming I don’t mind what you say, you can say it anyway You can keep on talking for hours and hours Keep on talking, it takes the time away, takes it all away Remove the sadness, keep on running Though you’re old, can’t do no running There’s a rythm stuck inside you You can’t loose it though you’re dreaming You’re always dreaming, though you’re dreaming Alleluia, we’re all rising Running through the fields It’s not surprising See the lime lights, feel the sunlight We’ll live forever Though we’re dreaming Are we dreaming (x5)
I have many vinyls and cds of this wonderful songwriter and great lyricist or poet. Kevin is a British Treasure.
Straordinari 🖖
I miss him he was the most underrated singer songwriter in the business
Each decade had its own best of but the 90's with Ben Harper and the BBOA really made everything fine.
Man's got "Soul"
brilliant....I wonder what Kevin would make of the world as it is today?...a bit of a genius was our Kev
Thanks for uploading this. So Open Blues
Who are the 25 sons of bitches who disliked this? I'll fight you in front of your family.
so they pulled him down...down in the river and they...uhh...stove his head right in
I am the trouble that finds you.
Watching this Jan 2021, this is a song that the whole nation needs. Time to end the strife and division. You don’t have to walk alone. Praise Jesus.
This one and Eilen Jewell are the two best versions ever done. And there are many
Absolute genius!!
poster is right -- best rendition hands down.
These guys should do an album every year or two...no I’m serious.
Love @Sentimental Hygiene"!
Brothers I needed this hand 🤚 of faith tonight 🎶
I love this song so much. I often share this to my friends.
I'm richer by far with a satisfied mind
True story. My parents named me Kevin Coyne. We are an Irish family. I found out about my namesake when my brother's girlfriend found one of his records and bought it for me. This was years and years ago. This is one of my favorites. Pretty cool to have the same name.
I Only Want To See You Smile. Nice song. Thanks Kevin.
This is a favourite of mine, I love the lyrics of Ben Harper but the BBOA make this song for me, gospel at it's best with these guys, unbelievable
Yeah, I saw him. He shot that kid in Florida and got away with it.
Excellent work with the visuals! Always excellence from Ry & Mr. Dave, but you are right, this one is special.
This is a great version. I enjoy the orchestration of the studio version, but there's something about the sparseness of this arrangement -- none of the lyrics get lost. Thanks for posting! RIP Warren
Ry Cooder s solos are so emotional. He’s from somewhere else I think
Indeed. Guy's totally in a league of his own when it comes to subtlety of playing amplified guitar.
One of the best song writers of the twentieth century
ça chauffe !!!!
Rakin leaves with Liza, me and Liz clean up the yard
Nice song
Funeral song. And at the end we won't know. Was it a dream? The imagery in this song is so poignant, evocative and beautiful. I got turned on to Kevin by John Peel. He was one of the greatest talents, wasn't he? (Kevin, that is! Though Peelie helped so many artists).
England's finest rock poet.
I had a dream too. God spoke and said Kevin was reborn as my friend's son. God said don't tell him. I was dreaming. We are dreaming. It doesn't make me a bad person. I don't believe him. Though my friend's kid is a good lad. From Derbyshire too. Not musical yet. God is the best of deceivers so hurry up saviour and avoid that big fat gun. Monkey needs a hug.
Death is Only a Dream by Reverend Edward.W.Clayborn is also a wonderful song
Never forget what politicians are capable of. Thanks, Alan Hull.
