Having always wanted to learn to fly but concerned about the extravagant costs I then discovered the wonderful world of microlight trikes. Follow me on my journey from first solo to flying to flying around New Zealand's highest mountain.
Winter Trike Flying
The plan was to fly to Arthurs Pass, which is nestled amongst the Southern Alps and just over half way between the South Islands east and west coasts.
Reaching heights of just over 7,000 ft it didn't take long before the cold started to impact my Ipad (navigation) and EFIS displays (atltitude, speed).
When the hand started to go numb, I knew it was time to turn back. The joys of flying a trike in the middle of winter.

Turbulence in a Trike
Просмотров 858Год назад
I really enjoy flying trikes as it's one of the most basic forms of powered flying there is. Feeling the wind on your face is just like riding a motorbike in the sky. The only downside is their sensitivity to turbulence and the number of days you're unable to fly as a result. In this video I fly into a gentle nor-wester where I experience both down and updrafts. Is a Gyro the answer?

A very quick flight into the Southern Alps which take on a completely different appearance during summer. Will need to return again once they get their first snow of the winter.

Ultralight Trike around the Christchurch Gondola and onto Sumner
Let me ask you something why would fly with those when its windy? Those trikes are made to fly with them on nice weather there is no point doing something that is unsafe and potentially crash, beside this they are very safe to fly with them and funny just like riding motorcycle 🫡
Beautiful!
Beautiful!
Atmosphere looks really stable too.
Nice!
I want to buy it ❤❤❤
I need help sir place 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Hello sir I want to buy this please reply, it is my dream that I too can fly
Man that looks rough to the point of not being much fun anymore. But I guess you have to learn to fly in those kind of conditions. Nice landings.
Here in So Cal, many of my Flexwing friends have switched to Gyros. The reasons are several, including turbulence. But there are other factors to consider. The Gyro requires less pilot control strength input. As pilots get older or suffer from health conditions, Flexwings can cause a bit of a challenge. In any case, you do trade in a few things by switching to a Gyro. Chief among them is the price, but at the end of the day, it is a personal choice on what makes your flying experience enjoyable.
Trikes are inherantly stable. Positive in pitch, neutral in roll generally. Turbulence is hard work if you fight it too much.
This is why I fly 3 axis now! Tks
Love it buddy!
Mooi hoor
Fuck me , that came in like a helicopter!!
Another impressive video. Will be in touch once I get to do some more flying.
Очень красиво и впечатляет !
Thank you.
The first thing I notice was how strong your head wind was.
Perfect landing, extremely professional
It’s never fun flying in rough air be safe
Anything that flies is awesome. I prefer to fly trikes. I dislike gyros because of several issues. There are too many moving parts that keep me in the air. Most gyros I've seen flying, have a constant movement on the control stick. I'm guessing this is caused by imbalance. I don't like how long the takeoff roll is to get off the ground. Everyone has there own personal preferences. I wish you luck in making yours. Fly safe and take care. Keep the videos coming.

Хорошее видео! Подскажите, где вы купили эти перчатки? Good video! Can you tell me where you bought these gloves?
Here's the link for the gloves. They're very good. Warm on the coldest of days and easily detachable. www.punkinheadair.com.au/accessories/

Hello Robert - big fan of yours
Thanks Emily. Once I release my memoirs…..for a small fee……I can send you an autographed copy? And for those who don’t know….Emily is my cheeky daughter who’s just moved to Australia.
What a beautiful world we all share! I'm wondering, if you had a motor go out, are you within reach of a landing area in all that wilderness?
😁
@@RobertBargent Running on faith...I salute you and have deep fluttering in my guts at the same time. Carry on!
Spectacular!! Cheers
Thanks Patrick
My best friend, that's a great video. I will always cheer for you in Korea I'm looking forward to a great video. Have a nice day.
This is why you always get a weather briefing before flying *anything*.
Belo voou só que eu tô vendo esse rio morto so areia
Great video where did you get the bar mitts? They look very stable in the airflow, mine just flap about!
👍
I dont think these are safe in the wind. Then again iv never flowing one what if the wind stronger than the thrust can you still land ok
Been flying various Airborne Trikes since '99. Great job maintaining runway heading during departure and landing. Flying in that type of turbulence isn't done for joy, it's done to keep skills sharp..lol
What were winds that day?
Nice
Thanks for the ride
what are you filming on?
Using a Gopro Hero 6 Black shooting at 2.7K 50fps in LINR mode and A Gopro 360 Max at 5.6K 30 fps. Edited using Gopro Player and Studio 23. Output using HEVC codec 3840x2160.
@@RobertBargent good stuff, cheers👍🏻
