    I'm new at Anki. I'm trying to lears Spanish. I've created multiple decks, each containing more or less 20 cards. But I wonder if it wasn't better to just create one deck and gradually adding al the words to that one deck? Or how does Anki function best?

      Hello! I personally like having 1 deck per language. Unless perhaps you have a billion cards and want to separate them by level or something. On the desktop when you browse it's easy to drag and drop cards around if you decide you want to move decks. Happy language learning!

    Hi, Genevieve! I have a question regarding decks, cards and topics. Should i separate the decks for the languages i am learning like (Language 1 /Language 2/ Language 3) and create cards for each topic within these languages using tags to separate them or do like (Language 1 - topic n / Language 2 - topic n/ language 3 - topic n ) being one deck for each topic, for example "english - verb to be; english - asking for directions"?

    • @BreakOutandSpeak
      @BreakOutandSpeak 2 месяца назад

      Hello! Some options for ya: - Use a shared deck and delete or ignore the parts you don't want (also sometimes different shared decks have different features) - Import from a text file like a CSV if it's easier - Add word manually as part of practicing them - Use a browser extension to allow you to create cards from webpages (although I haven't tried this last option yet) I'd likely import or use a shared deck, but it's your call! Happy language learning

    Well done! I've just downloaded the app, and looking forward to upping my Korean level. Question: When adding tags, do you need to separate tags with commas, and is there a maximum number of tags that fit in the field?

    • @BreakOutandSpeak
      @BreakOutandSpeak 2 месяца назад

      Nice! Enjoy it. Hope it helps with your Korean. You can create separate tags just by writing a space, and Anki will create two separate tags. If you want a tag of multiple words for that one tag you can use an underscore, like this (example_tag). There is no explicit maximum number of tags!

    Before getting demotivated, I was using Busuu a lot for Japanese. I learned so much. I also love the fact that it gives you context to what something means. Of course its not perfect. Because later on in the Japanese course, the talking speed of the bot makes it where you simply can't understand. That was one reason why I kind of stopped. Although I'm doing it again

    I would like to share my experience and add my two cents to it. I am currently learning Spanish (my 4th language) i find that the best way as you said is to find people who speak the target language and just try to have conversation/ interact with them. I'll use the same analogy of the gym, learning words without having real conversation is like learning about lifting theoretically without actually practising what you learn and put it to test. Also like learning musical notes without actually practicing playing an instrument. Language is just a tool to communicate rather than just knowledge. That's the reason why i find the most fun part about Duolingo is when you have to record your speaking, because it's the closest thing to having a conversation. Maybe they should develop an Ai bot that can mimic a conversation or make it possible to speak to others. In my case, I am very fortunate because my wife speaks Spanish (she learned it through Duolingo and Mexican series ) and I sometimes try to have natural conversation with her and she corrects me and I find that it's very efficient especially that she's a French teacher so she already has pedagogical knowledge. In fact the main reason I chose to learn Spanish is the fact that I will have someone to practice with on a daily basis. So it's like Spanish chose me 😂 also the fact that I know french, it helps tremendously.

    Everybody keeps talking about the fact that Duolingo is free. I tried the free version and frankly I am astonished that anybody manages to make good use of their time. You get unreasonably punished for mistakes and spend most of your time looking at ads that take over your phone and blast the speaker unless you keep turning it down, then back up again to get back to some limited learning. The pay version seems okay.
