how is your neck today? mobility? all around? thanks
appreciate the video. I had same surgery. My doctor has me wearing this brace for 12 weeks. Sleep without brace after six weeks. I am five weeks in. Good luck, Mike
I've watched all your ACDF videos. Thank you for taking the time to make them. No doubt life is busy, catching up on all you missed with the pain before the surgery, but if you have a moment, I'd love to hear your thoughts looking back on the experience from a year of recovery. Best of health to you and yours...
They told me that they test for MRSA.
Thank you for this - I'm 2 weeks from surgery (c5/6), and 1 week from all my pre-op stuff. I really appreciate that you have documented your journey. It is helping me to put a list of questions together and to prepare for post surgery.
Thanks for video I’m about to enter my third week of recovery for ACDF C3-6 surgery on 7/16/24 . I accidentally tilted my head the wrong way on today. Afterwards I been experiencing spasms at the base of my neck and between my shoulder blade. Along with a headache. I took my pain med’s and have been laying back. I also been drinking more water. As my surgeon stated the drinking more water can help with reducing the muscle spasms.
Thanks for the encouraging comment!! ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
I am currently in the recovery period after my C5-C6 ACDF surgery. I still experience pain that starts at the base of my neck and radiates down into my left shoulder, arm, and the pinky, ring, and middle fingers. Additionally, I have days when the pain in the back of my neck becomes unbearable, though it’s not a throbbing pain. God bless brother and recover. 🤦🏽♂️
I said it before and I’ll say it again. A drummer can never have too many drum keys. You wouldn’t think it considering how small they are, but those little guys love to grow little feet and run away. And if you only bring 1, no matter what you’re doing whether it’s recording or playing a gig, may God have mercy on your soul.
Interesting. I’m doing C5/6 and C6/7 acdf in a little over a week, and my doc has me in a brace for 2 weeks. Do you know why yours wants 6 weeks???
Good question! I think it just comes down to the surgeon and their best practices. Not sure if wearing it for 6 weeks has any better results that just wearing it for 2 weeks… one problem it did cause was the muscles took longer to recover because I wasn’t using them..
Michael...I see that you play guitar. My band took a hiatus for my surgery. I an at week four now and finding it diifilt to play with the brace. Staining to drop my chin to look down. I was always a physical player with lots of movement. I nod when I play, move my feet, etc. and How long after the collar was removed did you feel good playing for more than a few minutes?
I think i was able to play after 6 weeks. But still for limited time
Thank you! Just watched your week three and week five. I am at week three today and was discouraged the pain seems to be getting worse instead of better but will keep the faith. :-) I had four levels done.
So many more new techniques. Artificial disk replacement is the best
Do not get fusion. Get artificial disk replacement and you are released to full duty in 3 weeks amazing
I had my surgery last week and have problems with the arm and shoulder that was fine. I’m watching your video and it sounds like what is happening with me. Can you give an update on your status please.
Hi, I had ACDF surgery C5/6 3 weeks ago. I have had pain in my shoulder blade, shoulder and neck for the second week. Everything on the right side. is that normal. I also had the pain before the operation. Does the pain last until the cage has fused? Do I still have to be patient?
Man get a cart…. carrying that stuff is backbreaking!
Got halfway through the video and I realized you're a left-handed drummer! Can you make another video for right-handed drummers cause I can't use this information
What are the exercise when you are the operation of spinal cord
George mphande am Zambian i had cervical c5c6 surgery on Thursday 25 last month now am not feeling like fever dizzy am feeling breathless anywey for can i get better.
Killer chops man!! ❤
This is really helpful, I had the same surgery in the UK, now at week 4 but not collar at all.. Weirdly have indigestion issues and fatigue. It certainly is a roller coaster.
I see you're a guitarist, me too. Did your spine issue affect your playing and did the surgery help that?
How about showering?
How about showering? It seems like one bends when showering and drying
Was it worth it... getting ready for same one as you next week...
I will be 3 months post opp on the 18th.. 3 level ACDF.. still experiencing pretty bad burning in the back of my neck, shoulders and upper back. The nerve pain is pretty much gone but now there is lingering numbness in my thumb/fore finger and muscular discomfort. Still doing PT 3X a week so keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck in your recovery journey.
Great!
First video of yours that I am watching. I go next month for a four level, C3-7, ACDF.
Great video. Thanks!
Excellent!
No driving for 4 weeks. Uber
How is it playing guitar? Is it difficult to look down and left? Can you strap the guitar over your shoulder? In 4 days I'll be having a C5-C7 ACDF. I've been playing guitar for about 35 years and I'm a bit concerned at some level.
Did you get a bone stimulator by chance? Supposedly they help accelerate the healing.
Thanks for sharing! Had mine done Dec 4, 2 Levels. Main issues I’m having. 1. Numbers and tingling in left arm (not an issue prior to surgery) 2. Sleeping in recliner, yet only getting 5-6 hours as I continue to wake up due to soreness. 3. Came off pain meds, may consider going back to muscle relaxer meds 4. Using a Bone Growth Stimulator Any ideas and suggestions appreciated 👍🏽 Coach Tony
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s almost 3 wks since my ACDF surgery. I use the same collar but after 1st week I stopped it at night since I wasn’t sleeping.
if you watched my last one i didnt know how many months or weeks . memory loss and brain fog with the deafness hope it comes back soon
Tinnitus is hurting me
thank you
make another video so we can now how you are doing Today
Hey Micheal. Would love to hear an update 😊
Hi Michael I had c4-c7 acdf cervical fusion surgery on 11-26-23 .I continue to have tightness in my trap, and tingling in my arms, little shooting pIns to back of my neck, my ankles, feet and wrists get cold all the sudden makes me nervous. But listening to your videos makes me feel alittle better thanks for the videos. I have a crazy question but we're not supposed to bend so how are we suppose to wash our lower legs and feet when we're shower?
That’s a good question. I question a lot of stuff we are not suppose to do. I have my 3 week follow up this Tuesday and I have a bunch of questions. Have shooting pins in my shoulder too.
Nobody ever talks about the neck area. Like I had c2_ c5 something like that and it was very painful and I even had Halo and they didn't tell me I had one. I found out by overhearing it I'm feeling blood scabs on my head, plus they shaved me too. When all they needed to do is just put my hair up. It was terrible the pain worse than having a child. I took over a month for my severe pain to go away. The hospital I was in they treated me like crap. I had to go to the bathroom and the guy told me well lots of people can hold their pee you know. I'm on an IV bag here that stuff goes right through you. And the one won't even give me a tissue so I can blow my nose so horrible and when they finally did give me food which I wasn't hungry anyway I opened up the lid and there was just one piece of bacon on the plate who's been eating my food I thought to myself. It was a terrible experience all the way through. The drive was 4 hours away to get back home and the driver went and put on his brakes real hard once and it really jolted my neck. Of course I have to go back in February and I don't even want to because they made me feel less than a person.
4 months post op for me , I finally got in to Physical Therapy . doing the exercises are a must . neck pain goes down through to the mid thoratic knots as well as rining in the ears and headaches with dizziness Still... the tennis ball in a pillow case trrick from my therapist works great. i am aabout to feel better !
I'm getting my 2 level ACDF (C5, C6, & C7) on November 27th. I see the guitars in the background. How long was it before you were able to get back to playing? I typically do more fingerstyle, not a lot of strumming. My acoustics are a hair more than 5 pounds, plus I have some lighter electrics (SG, LPJ). Maybe It would be a good time to learn keyboard.
Ditto on the fan and playing in Tx.
Never mind…you answered it on the video right when I posted the question lol
What are those circles? Where can I buy them???
Hey Micheal how are you doing now, over 7 months post-op? I had c6-c7 acdf in March. You were about 2 weeks ahead of me. My Surgeon told me that I was fused at 4 months. I feel good. Hope you're doing well.
Great video! Excellent explanation for what is a gigging drummer. Am taking a tip to mark my carpet for the next one. Yes, it will reduce time to get things into place. Thank you very much Michael!
And which hospital ? Thanks
