    I'm just now trying the single round combat within the framework of the A&A classic, only amphibious ground units attack until victory or defeat. I was also experimenting with a unit "promotion" concept, compairing highest dice (only units scoring a hit) much like the RISK games do,

    I'm 30 and only recently got into the games. My wife and I found 1941 at Walmart. I liked it and learned that there was another which was the 1942 2nd edition. We played that a while and then I found out about 1940 Global 2nd edition. It does take a LONG time to learn and play while learning but if you can get into a rhythm it's not too bad. The complexity and number of units and IPCs make that my favorite.

      Thanks for your comment. 🍻 Yeah, it takes quite some learning - you really have to accept you will make mistakes and misreads, and maybe find blind confusion during the first couple of go's - then, once rested, you misremember or forget stuff and it may seem like you are back to square one. But each time you play, it gets easier and ever yet more fulfilling. I'm closing in on 2 years of enjoying this game now and still find myself thinking, 'The next playthrough, I'm going to concentrate on this aspect... oh, and I promised 2 or 3 plays ago to try this or that with the Ottomans... but I also quite like the idea of...' It's a sandbox that gets under your skin, itching to be gotten out again only a short-while after ending each marathon.

    What did you use to make flag platform stands?

    • @2orLess
      @2orLess 12 дней назад

      Very simply made from paperclips. The feet are sandwiched between sticky felt pads. Top tip if you're making your own, use good quality stainless steel paperclips - if you use cheap plated ones they shed confetti all over the place. 🍻

    Great video! Just one rules comment: 4:25 - The attacking sub can also be seen by the UK Fighter, as multinational defenders work together. See blue box on page 21 of the rulebook. Need more subs for this attack! Now some strategy advice: A few attacks being made are leaving units behind to defend. For example, at 47:39 you are leaving 2 Italian infantry behind in Mareth. Better to attack with everything! If you are worried about leaving Mareth undefended, you could retreat a couple of units after the first round of combat. In this case, no need to, as you have plenty of Italian infantry in Tripoli that could move into Mareth if the Allies retreated. Tripoli is not under any threat. Looking forward to part 3!

    Awesome video! A few comments: 10:47 - The Italian infantry in Benghazi decides whether to retreat or to spend supply and fight before the attackers roll. I see by the screen crawl that you intended to defend. 18:41 - The Italian defender spent 1 supply from Tobruk, in case anyone is wondering why there are still 2 supply in Benghazi. 26:04 - USA cannot buy air units on Round 7. See scenario rules and the USA setup chart. 40:51 - That attack should have been made from adjacent zones. Attackers don't move into the zone unless they capture it. The Scout Car should have flanked! The Scout Car never advances into the zone after capturing, but can noncombat move into the newly-captured zone if it wants to. 50:43 - The USA air units should have moved into KPass. Germany should have seen the KPass attack coming and moved the 88 in. And some of those Mareth defenders should have been in KPass as well. Mareth is not threatened yet. Looking bad for the Axis right now, but I can't wait to see how it turns out!

    • @2orLess
      @2orLess Месяц назад

      Many thanks for taking the time to make these clarifications Matt. 🍻 I did mess around with the order of when to spend the Italian supply, that’s me getting ahead of the game: predicting attack and defence in trying to maintain the video’s flow. The U.S. air purchase, very clearly is written on the set-up card: Round 7, you cannot requisition air unit… Doh! I completely forgot that one. 😮 The errant, over the border placement, was because of the narrow border; I could have/should have moved the remaining infantry back and left the attacking units on the Mersa Brega side: it’s good that you point that out. 👍 And I was cutting corners with the Scout car Long range patrol… possibly not the best thing on a how to play…. Blush. Air unit’s at the, not in the, Kasserine Pass were really just for space and ease of viewing. I’ll pin your reply: for sure it will help me and others. P.S. Spoiler alert: It’s not looking good for the Axis in the next round either. 😆

    Can you please do another series of videos on the axis and allies 1940 vrs alien? I love that series however i think the aliens (even with all the buffs ) were destroyed. I have a few suggestions. 1 maybe make the aliens capture a human after 3 or even 2 infintry artillery or aaa are killed. 2 make the aliens go 2 spaces(they are pretty fast). 3 stealth, tcould move into enemy territory (only 1 space at a time) and their is no battle and the enemy cannot kill or attack them. Maybe planes can try to spot them on a roll of 1 or somthing. And lastly the aliens need to start with more and attack from multiple places. I suggest 15 preatorien and 8 drones, with 3 hives (one in Mongolia, one in brazil or a neutral and one in the congo or south africa somewhere). Oh and if you dont thats fine (im going to try to do the same on my channel lieutenantgaming57) i just wanted to give you some ideas. Oh and the queen needs to be more powerful, maybe making 4 or 6 preatorien and sending up to 4 or 6 drones out, or maybe there is a major queen and two or three smaller ones. Thanks for reading! Please consider this offering!

    I did not think I would watch most of this tonight, but I did! You've scared me away from Global 1940 because the only place I would be able to play it is our dining table, and it is not possible for me to leave the board set up for a week. The North Africa game intrigues me because it is almost another theatre like Europe and Pacific, yet I don't think it was marketed that way? There are a few other editions you mention that truly look great, too.

    • @sojourner650
      @sojourner650 Месяц назад

      I did some sleuthing on Renegade's website. Looks like Anniversary, Europe 1940 2E, Pacific 1940 2E all use about 6 hours per game. WWI 1914 is 4-6 hours, and 1942 2E is 3-4 hours. Of course, these are probably times for experienced players (of which I am not one). EDIT: But the boxes show longer times like 4-6 hours for these!

    • @2orLess
      @2orLess Месяц назад

      @@sojourner650 Thanks for your comment. The global pairing is one that requires dedicated time, but playing the separate E40+P40 halves is just about do-able in a long day, with aggressive players. If you’re keen on that scale, Anniversary might be a better choice. However, I certainly wouldn’t rule out the original Pacific and Europe-not only are they great games, they can be bought cheap on the pre-owned market. North Africa, like the other campaign games, shares many of the base A&A principles but with (very cool) enhancements to the procedure and unit abilities. It’s interesting you say it’s almost another theatre-that was my first impression, too. But, for me, it definitely sits in the campaign section. 🍻

    Great video! Rules are spot on. Just one comment: 16:43 - The Targeted Attack - Air Units ability of a scout car is best shown where there are other units in the zone with the air unit. The scout car can apply its hit to the Stuka, instead of having the defender choose the typical infantry casualty. In the video example, a lone Stuka would die to any hit from any attacker. And, of course, the Stuka does get to fire back.

    • @2orLess
      @2orLess 2 месяца назад

      @Matt_Hyra Thanks for the comment. Indeed yes, it's worth highlighting the Scout car Targeted Attack - Air Units ability happens against territories with any number of hostiles that has an air unit. Back in the day we'd call the situation in my example, +EV (positive expectation value). Both hitting @2orless and the Scout has a free choice to destroy a supply. Nowadays they say, 'winner winner chicken dinner'. 😆

    Thanks for doing this video! A few clarifications: 31:35 - The Attacker MUST move in if they capture the territory, up to the Stacking Limit. Must not "can." So in this case, 10 victorious German units must move into Tobruk. 38:14 - Should be: "The Allies could have placed Sea Mines into this sea zone, as there are no Axis SEA UNITS present." You CAN deploy sea mines if there are just enemy land and air units there. You do mention this later during the deployment phase. 51:37 - The Self-Sufficient ability only allows a unit to DEFEND without supply. French units are Self-Sufficient, but they must pay supply to attack. Scout Cars have Hit & Run, which allows them to attack without supply. 47:29 - A little confusing for the viewer as to why the German Scout Car is attacking an empty Sirte, but your explanation is otherwise correct. The Hit & Run ability text is what forces a Scout Car to retreat after the first round of combat. This means that Scout Cars can never capture a territory. They can move in with their additional move post combat if other units do manage to capture it. Glad you are enjoying the game! Thanks, Matt Hyra

      Many thanks Matt, I will pin this reply for others to take note of. Yes, I absolutely should have made a clear distinction between the Scout Car Self Sufficient and its Hit and Run ability, and should have left no room for confusion with French units Self sufficiency. 🧐 The Sirte attack was just to show the movement--other errors are me tripping over my tongue. 🤐 Congrats and thanks for a very interesting game. 🍻

Land mines mechanics need to be changed they can't be detonated at players choice. Etc. Not radical changes, I will experiment wen I buy mine.

      Thanks for your thoughts: I thought all infantry Attack at 2 or less (3 with artillery support) - Italian infantry defend @ 2 but cost less to purchase? I'm not next to the game right now. I'm going to see how the base game plays-out with mine detonation - Often it's easy to see things at a unit level, where as I feel, any A&A unit/token represents a whole array of equipment and personal and commitment to that type of effort: in this case mines represent wider 'covert' actions. 🍻

    Having a question, that's about age. Have a boy of 10 years old, really is interested in everything what is having to do with WW2. Do you think he will be able to play the game? And if so, what would you suggest, can just imagine he would love to play with me and his best friend and it would not matter it take some weekends and they are patient enough, looks like an amazing game for during the winter break. We have a spare guest bedroom (kingsize bed) where we could play without my wife go crazy over the time we abuse the dining table.

    • @2orLess
      @2orLess 3 месяца назад

      Great Question: At 10 years old, I suggest one of the shorter versions, Classic or 1941. There aren't too many pieces, rules or unit classes. The 1941 is the easier rulebook to read. It might be another year or two for your son to be play with more independence though. Other than that, perhaps D-day: it's card driven nature makes it easy to follow and the two additional card sets (for Tactics/Fortune) allows for some growth with the system. However, bear in mind, D-day and the other 3 campaign games while they are Axis and Allies, they do not follow the exact same game mechanics. Good luck making memories. :)

    Axis and Allies AAA rule (technology levels) 1. OOB rules, I prefer the Global '40, up to 3 dice for each gun, fire first round only + free flyovers 2. Up to 4 dice for each gun, first round only 3. Same as #2 but no more free flyovers, they get fired at now 4. Same as #3 but now fire every round of combat 5. Same as #4 but now hit Armor on a roll of 2, multi role gun. 6. Selective Anti aircraft / Targeted planes...owner no longer gets to choose. * As per normal, no more than one dice per attacking unit. * More interesting, add a $5 minor air unit ($5, attack 1 & defend 1, move 4) to the game, it's basically a half fighter ($10 fighters) & 1/3 bomber ($15 bombers). Now any air hit is reduced by $5, forced to retreat from this battle and a hit fighter now becoming a minor air unit while a hit bomber becomes two minor air units and all are forced to retreat immediately. Spending $5 and having two minor air units in owners factory, a bomber is built, also spending $5 and adding a single minor air unit, a fighter is built. Bombing raids need some recalculating as do fighter interceptor rules * AAA guns cost $5 and can be taken as a casualty * Aircraft carriers hold up to 4 minor air units ($20 total) *Bombers hit and turned into minor air units temporary keep the bombers range until they land (landing must be done before any more dice are rolled) * Defending transport hits against aircraft are only minor air hits...half hits compared to normal rules, same effect as taking damage from AAA fire. * Single round interception combat, all hits are treated as anti aircraft damaged. Fighters defend @ 2 (jets @3), attacking/escorting fighters attack @ 1 (jets 2). Bombers and minor air units only ever hit on a 1. * Tactical air, treat all minor aircraft as tactical air units, paired with a fighter at sea, minor air units hit (attack only ) on a 1 or 2, the "2" hit being attackers choice. Minor air units paired with a tank unit also hit (attack only) on a 1 or 2, the "2" hit also being attackers choice...targeted hits. *$15 bombers can carry one infantry, non combat only, up to 6 spaces. **Late game unit, Fighter bomber, ($15, attack 4, defend 3, range 6 and can land on aircraft carriers, no transport abilities).

      @2orLess 3 месяца назад

      Wow lots of good stuff there.🍻 I may have to adopt/adapt...? 🤫erm, okay 'steal' some and try them in a future game. 😁 I particularly like the minor air units idea - not %100 on board with them being tactical-paired and have to see they don't cause a naval battle that blocks amphibious assault bombardment, but as I.C. bombing raid interceptors oh-yes. 👍

      @@2orLess thanks, I been working with my smaller A&A customized board and am having crowding issues, I'm adding several unit types, still want my 3 different infantry types but probably not on this board. I had quit using the tactical bombers mostly because of space, but I'm keeping the minor air units and figured I'd have to try combining the two unit types, I haven't tried this $5 tactical minor air unit yet. A $4 (1/2 destroyer) patrol boat becomes important when using the $5 aircraft, attack & defend & move 1, transport technology allowing 2 patrol boats per transport, now the patrol boats keep up with the fleet. (always free technology, one per turn basically, but with lots of technology, buying the technology "tokens" can be incorporated in a couple ways.
