As a Singaporean, I have been looking into the numerous conflicts happening around the world and how close some of them are. While I am content with the good governance and security provided by our government, I cannot help but notice the verbal skirmishes now and then between Singapore and her neighbors, as well as the radical Islamists trying to take advantage of our naive minority. The constant thought in my mind is when will Singapore have no choice but becomes forced into a full-scale war. While I do not advocate for it, I have somewhat prepared myself mentally over the years if it happens. As I grow older, I have come to love my country even deeper and appreciate my nation even more and have come to a point where I know I will not be able to just sit back if my country calls for me to defend her, for the sake of our motherland and the self-sacrifice of our forefathers in Singapore. Even if a war spells the end of Singapore, our lives and deaths on the battlefield shall bring meaning to the sacrifice and hard work of our forefathers, who gave their sweat and blood to our present and future. Every man in Singapore is trained to incapacitate the enemy from the age of 18. We are not afraid. We don't want trouble, but we are not afraid of it either. Singapore is strong militarily as of today but in case of total war, Singapore will not last long. Singapore does not have the manpower, the strategic space to maneuver, strategic resources such as food & water, & ammunition production facilities to sustain combat in 1 year. Singapore can easily be besieged to surrender, bombard with missiles & artillery from neighboring islands, and the people’s love for money and order can easily force their government to surrender.
