Seaside Snuggles Quilts, Patterns & Crafts
США
Добавлен 8 фев 2021
Hello and welcome to Quilts, Patterns & Crafts! My name is Sheila Pressley and I'm the owner of Seaside Snuggles QPC on Etsy. I also have a store on Etsy featuring my designs on various apparel, a store on Spoonflower that features my designs on fabrics, a store on Redbubble with my designs on many other products, and finally, I have some products selling on Amazon. This channel is a way for me to share my creative process and to help people to create their own quilts and crafts using patterns I sell in my Etsy store as well as me learning any other craft that may tickle my fancy. I find the process of learning to make something with my own two hands to be life-enriching. I hope to encourage others to find joy in learning new crafts with me as I do while learning from so many other RUclipsrs.
The Running Diamonds Block
Thanks to the success of my last video (and a mathematical error), I'm back with a second block that I used along with the Open Diamonds Block and a center medallion to finish my quilt top. This block finishes 16" x 6" but was trimmed down to finish 15" x 6" for use in the quilt top without losing the diamond points.

Spinning 5-Pointed Star Paper Pieced Quilt Block Tutorial - Part 1
I really like this and thank you so much Sheila for teaching it! I’ve subscribed as I like how you explain everything.
Thank you so much for subscribing, Terri! Welcome!
A very detailed tutorial. Thank you for the ironing instructions.
My first rotating mat wore out. I loved it. Bought another.
So far everyone agrees with you, Carol. I’m going to have to get one. Thank you!
Beautiful. RUclips recommend your channel. I’m happy they did you’re awesome keep up the great work. I’m not making any videos because of life and health problems but God is good I will be back soon. I had to sent your video to my friend. God bless you and your family Happy Thanksgiving.
I follow you! I hope you get well soon and are back to making videos. Thank you so much for the encouragement.🙏🏾❤️
You are very good at making a block with so many seams. Your accuracy is commenable. Lovely!
Do it ad one video and save yourself the extra work of splitting it up.We can pause and fast forward if we need to.
Thank you, Carrie! I’m going with that. 😁
Thank you for the tutorial. You are so calming and easy to listen to. You don’t rush thru the blocks and it makes it easy to understand. I just found your tutorial and definitely will be following.
Thank you, Janet, and welcome! :)
You just popped up in my feed so happy it did I subscribed to you ❤
@@guesswhonancy9028 Thank you so much! Welcome!
Make two videos please! I have trouble with medallions
The next video will be a single; but, I promise to do more as separate videos so you can see all the details. Thank you for your feedback, Brenda. You’re going to have medallions conquered in no time!
thank you
first time I see your video gotta say your institutions are wonderful along with the picture WOW so helpful thank you so much been sewing for a while but your calm voice and distractions ty my spelling bad so google helps but if you don't know how to spell hard to pick the right one lol again ty for your teachings
Thank you very much, Deb. I’m so glad you like the video. I hope you’re here to stay and that you’ll give the block a try. ♥️
That is awesome
Thank you so much, Betty!
Thank you.
You're welcome!
I love sunflowers. Thanks for this block
Thank you, Melanie! I do too!
so glad I found you. I love that you explain the math behind the cuts you make. It is an intriguing glimpse into the mind of a designer. What fabric did you use ?
I'm glad you found me too! :D This fabric in from the discontinued "Velvet" collection by Boundless Fabrics. There's still some out there but it's becoming more difficult to find.
@@SeasideSnugglesQPC Thanks. I checked out your Etsy shop, nice. I see you're in the PACNW too. Ilive in Medford OR and my Brother and 2 nephews are on the Kitsap peninsula and in Seattle proper.
@@Litknits We're practically neighbors! lol
WOW!! That is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! BEAUTIFUL WORK!!! I want to make this but it is sooo above my level of expertise!! Maybe in the future!! WOW!! STUNNING!! Congrats!!
Thank you so much, Lena. One of my favorite sayings is "How do you eat and elephant? One bite at a time." It's weird I know; but, the point is you can do this! Look at its individual components, not the quilt as a whole... then take small bites. :) You've got this!
This was a great video, thanks ❤❤
Thank you so much, Dianne!
Sheila, I too think that your sound is a bit muffled. I frequently lay in bed and watch RUclips, so one ear is on a pillow. Then I thought about it, and I listen to other videos without that issue. When Rose mentioned it, I felt I had to as well. Now, you are a very talented woman. Your piecing is so precise, and you know which way the seams need to lay 6 blocks ahead. Wow. You said you made a mistake in the size of the medallion, but I am a firm believer in everything that happens is for a reason, and this is no exception. The added design element was meant to be. I will be honest, because frankly I am a horrible liar, I was watching the free block video and I didn't get very far because I have seen that block before, but I guess that is bound to happen. But when the next video popped up, I watched it all the way through, and that is when I subscribed. When I was watching and you were talking about the trapezoid and the parallelogram, I thought, "Oh, we have a math geek on our hands." LOL, I mean, this is the best way. Thanks for your content. In answer to your question about the video on your medallion, I am not really sure if it should be one or two parts. My initial thought was one, then you talked about how you drafted it, and I thought maybe it should be two. And that was not helpful at all was it. Sorry. Thanks again, Tracy in Idaho
Hi Tracy in Idaho! What a gorgeous state! You are absolutely right about the sound. It sounds a bit like I'm under water. My next video will be better. I am TOTALLY a math geek. I had amazing math teachers who fostered a love in me for problem solving. Quilt designing puts me right in my element. It's a bit of a downer to think you came up with something original only to find out it's been seen before. You're right though, there is very little that hasn't been done in quilting. Most of the "new" part is fabric choice and methodology. Still, I'm glad you enjoy this video. I hope you'll come back! :D
@@SeasideSnugglesQPC Seminole That Work was named after the native American Women from the Seminole nation. They used the pattern on clothing a lot. You can notice the pattern resembles some of their weaving.
Yes! That's why I am careful to refer to the technique properly. Credit where it's due, right? Thank you again. <3
❤❤❤
Backatcha, Colette! <3 <3 <3 Thank you!
An echo-y sound to your voice...made it hard to follow, glad for the pictures...that sashing is impressive
Thank you, Sandy. I apologize for the sound. I tried AI noise cancelling and failed. My video editing skills are far behind my sewing skills. :( I promise to do better on the next video.
I’d rather you do two videos so we can get those tiny details and you can take your time to do so. Beautiful work btw
Thank you so much, Paula! I think I'm going to do one video for this medallion with timestamps so you can just to the parts that interest you. I've lost the footage at the sewing machine so the construction portion on this first medallion video will be abbreviated. I will be making more medallions in the future though, so you'll get all the details. :D
My mother was a expert hand quilter did a lot of Semiole Piecing. I haven't seen anyone else on You tube use them! When you started the video I thought, that looks like the quilting my Mom used to do and I was right, and I was excited to learn how to make them. Thank you for the excellent instructions. I wasn't much interested when my mom was still with us.
My mom taught me to sew when I was very young. She passed away when I was deployed. I hadn't sewn anything in so long. Quilting and cooking have been my ways to still feel close to her. I'm sure your mother would love that you have found an interest in her passion, Jean. <3 <3 <3
I'd like to see how you make a thread cutter, I haven't ever seen one. I guess maybe use a one-sided razor? I have to say I enjoy hand-sewing and use that little square ruler for that a bit. It's fun and I love it too. New subscriber, sure glad you came up on my feed today. Happy Thanksgiving.
Welcome, Denise! It's lovely to have you. :D The thread cutters I've researched look like they use a rotary blade sandwiched between two decorative parts that only allow a small part of the blade to be exposed. The "sandwich" is held together by some sort of screw and nut, just like on a rotary cutter. The whole thing then sits vertically in some sort of stand. That's how I plan to approach it when I get around to making one. Wish me luck! lol
@@SeasideSnugglesQPC Good Luck maybe you'll video it to share. Sounds interesting
It was beautiful well explained great job ❤
Thank you so much, Leticia!
Thank you! ❤
Thank you, Mary-Anne!
That medallion looks scary to make lol. I am a novice quilter. Love your video, only now found you.
Zorine, you are who I'm here for! I want to make you confident enough to try it. I was intimidated by curved piecing at first and now I absolutely love it. Making medallions makes me feel like a wizard! :D You will too!
You do what works best for you 1 or 2 parts I never mind long videos. I can break it up if need be. Your quilt is so sooo BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thank you very much, Denise. <3
I love your quilt. Beautiful. Thank you for the free pattern and tutorial on how to make it. Your instruction is so easy to understand. I look forward to more videos. ❤️
Thank you so much for the compliment, Merrilee! I think your name is beautiful. :)
Yes. I would love to learn more Seminole piecing; and, I want to see how you made that beautiful center block in your quilt top. I don't care how long it takes to watch your videos. I pause the video, back up, and watch it again until I understand what you are doing (that's the advantage of watching RUclips videos). The Running Diamonds Block is beautiful and is a wonderful way of adding more pattern into a quilt. This block (if made longer) could make a beautiful border on a skirt, tunic, quilt, and many other items. Thank you for the free pattern, video, and lesson. You showed us why we need to save those off cuts (scraps).
You're a woman after my heart. I totally want to incorporate piecework into clothing items! I'll be sure to have timestamps so you can jump to where ever you need to in the video when it's finished.
Beautiful quilt!!
Thank you so much! I followed you! :D
It's gorgeous 😍
Thank you, Mona!
Enjoy your easy to follow tutorial--thank you
Thank you so much for watching, Judy!
Your video was offered to me by RUclips. I clicked on and was hooked by your video and skill. I first tried to figure out how you made that block, then I watched you make it. You are a great Skills Teacher. My daughter's name is Sheila. You do beautiful work. Your quilt is beautiful. Thank you for just being wonderful you.
You are a sweetheart, Arvetta. <3 Thank you!
Beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Veila.
Love the colours, great work! Yes, I agree some of the sound decreased at some point.
Thank you so much. Yes, you are absolutely right. I will fix that sound issue in the next video.
Please don’t take this as criticism but only a suggestion. Your sound is a little muffled and it’s not that it’s not clear enough for most people it’s just not clear enough for me because I’m just a little hard of hearing it 73 and there’s a lot of us that do watch these videos. I hope you can rectify that. I truly love your videos.❤
You are right my dear and I will. I explain more in response to your first post.
OMG, you are so gifted! I accidentally ran across your video, and I am absolutely intrigued. Your teasers about do I do it in one video or two and you made your videos on seminal piecing made my mouth water. Whatever you say I’m sure it’s gonna be wonderful and I am now a new subscriber! You explain things very clearly, and I appreciate that and I cannot wait for the video on how to design that medallion piece. Amazing! And the fact that you’re willing to Share.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Rose, you are such a sweetheart! <3 You make this an absolute pleasure. You're absolutely right about the sound as well. I don't know what I did but my mic sound was completely unusable so I had to use the audio recordings native to my cameras. I tried using AI to clean it up but it didn't work well. I think I figured out the mic issue though so my next video will be better. If the mic sound is still bad, I'll just do a voiceover so you can understand me better. I welcome constructive criticism. It's the only way I'll improve. Thank you so much.
@@SeasideSnugglesQPC You are a wonderful human being, and I absolutely will watch, like, subscribe and share. Thank you for your consideration.. and
Thank you for sharing! Your Quilt is Lovely!! You are a gifted sewist and teacher. Your online persona is reachable and outgoing. Keep up the great work!! OH yeah, about the medallion... whatever works for you... but you could make one video with timestamps for those who just want to skip ahead!!! Me, I'd love to see how you draft your pattern! And, of course, how you sew it!! Many Blessings
I think you're right, Patricia. The time stamps will help. I'll try to remember to say exactly where to jump to if you want to skip the drafting portion. Thank you for the compliment as well!
I love that beautiful quilt! I would enjoy watching any of the other videos needed to make it, no matter the length. Hopefully there's a pattern for the entire project, too!
Thank you for the compliment, Linda! I love drafting medallion patterns by hand. Digitizing them are a bear when they are this size; but, I'm trying to think of a way to make it so you won't have to tape a lot of pages together. If i can do that, I'll make a pattern for the store. :)
I love making small blocks and use my 2 1/2 square ruler all the time! Very useful tool. Yes, I would love to see a video on seminole piecing techniques.
Thank you and I am definitely going to do a couple, or three, or more Seminole piecing videos. I hope you'll join me, Peggy.
Beautiful quilt!
Thank you! 😊
I know it wasn’t your plan but I love the additional sashing!
Thank you so much. I'm considering this a happy accident. :D
You are just so easy to listen to and love detail explanations! Thank you for sharing your talent!
Thank you so much, Alyce! I worry about over-explaining sometimes. :D
Sure going to try this pattern. Great job
That makes me so happy, Kathrine! I'd love to see what you make! Tag me!
Love the pattern
Thank you so much, Dwanna!
Just found your channel!! Love this block. I can't wait for the pattern to be on your etsy. I would definitely purchase this!! Love it. Love the reds and cream colors you used in the video!! Beautiful!! Well done.
Thank you so much for your support, Lena! This pattern is free for you right here. All the measurements are in the description or you can pause the video where the measurements are on screen. I did finish a quilt top using these blocks around a medallion. I may make a pattern of that. If I do, I'll be sure to post it. <3
I have two rotating mats. One is 7" square, the other 17" square. I use the 7" one much more. The 17" one is just too big and in order rotate it, you need a bigger space than what I have.
I didn't even know they made them in the 7" size! That would be perfect. Thank you so much, Ann! Now I know exactly what to look for when they go on sale.
rotating mats are wonderful when you are trimming like in this video... Watch for sale or special discount bundles
Thank you! I’ll keep a lookout for a sale.
Great Block. Thanks!
