Triozeiro
This composition came out of an idea to make a percussion ensemble-style piece for 'tonal pandeiros'. The rhythms throughout are inspired by the Forro and Baiao music of Northeast Brazil. A million thanks to Jason, Ryan and Rob for turning an idea into a living piece of music!

Rhythm Math = Fun! in this video I talk about the cyclical nature or rhythm, and how the 2 over 3 relationship is so important in what we do as musicians. Using graphic and grid notation, I set up the idea of duple and triple subdivisions. Shoutout to David Penalosa for the kind permission to use some of the graphics from his book 'The Clave Matrix.' This is an amazing video. I played in a Bateria here in the US in the late 80s. I spoke no Portuguese and had zero musical training, but I managed to learn the Tamborim and Agogo parts to several Enredos, thanks to the amazing, welcoming Brazilian artists who led our group. To this day, those remain some of the best times I've ever had.

    Nice job, One thing I am finding to do in the slow tempo is the "carreteio" 2x1, but in the fastest tempo, I can achieve the 150 easier than doing the "carreteio" 3x1. The other thing I notice is I grave the "baqueta" with 3 fingers and let bounce back instead of using the hole hand

    Hi Amy! Is there a brand of Repique you have found that has a shallower rim that works well for playing stick and hand?

  • @robertma6068
    @robertma6068 9 месяцев назад

    Thanks for the tip on going easy to avoid those muslces in the hand that aren't used to be used in the way a pandeiro demands. I tend to go easy when I feel that my hand is being made to move in a plane by an instrument that isn't the usual, but the reminder was really good to have! I hope to have a new skin put on my smaller 8 inch pandeiro. I got a new 10 inich panderio to replace the old one for now, but I prefer a smaller size for pandeiro, as I prefer the punchier sound that smaller drums give in general, and pandeiro is a fast playing instrument, especially with some of the styles it's involved in, and I like to have a smaller drum to accomodate that.

    Very good. Interesting if you can explain how the design of tamborins is done in base of the melody presented by the "puxadores" and thogeter with the rest of the batucada enssemple, that eventually is also determining how the passistas dance

    Hi quick question: why do some repique sticks have a conical tip rather than round? And Are you supposed to hold the conical end or strike with it? Thanks so much! Love your videos!

    • @amycadle
      @amycadle 11 месяцев назад

      Great question! Traditional Repique sticks in Brasil do not have a bead at the tip, they are the same diameter from top to bottom and are slightly shorter than your average drum stick. I find it makes it easier to execute all the rim shots in the basic pattern, and also it lasts longer. Allegorically I have also heard that the lifecycle of a stick in the bateria starts with the caixas, when they break the tip it gets sawed off and the newly shortened stick gets sent to the repiques. So here in the states people will just flip the stick backwards and play with the butt end, or saw of the tip themselves. Thanks for watching!
