    Hi Alan, thank you for posting great content! I am currently trying to learn to create machine control models. I do create models for takeoff using TBC but I can't seem to know the difference between the two when it comes to processes. Would it be possible for you to create a video of creating a machine control model from scratch? What kinds of lineworks required, what to elevate, create surface and stuff. Looking forward to it. I appreciate your work!

      Hi, if you are bringing in line work data from a CAD file try saving the CAD file as a 200-2003,2004 DXF or DWG it might be that topcon office isn't recognising a newer file version

      Yes. That will come down to the version of software that is running on the excavator or dozer. If newish then import DWG with triangulation straight in. If import DWG isn't an option that you need to convert to topcon .tn3 (tin)

    • @machinecontrol
      @machinecontrol Год назад

      Hi Frederick, if you have the triangulation you can flip it via Trimble file flipper. If you don't have a triangulated model you can create a flat or sloped one in the dozer alternatively you will likely need to pay for modelling software. I use n4ce quite a bit, bricscad,civil3d etc

    Thanks for the demo. How do you go about editing the surface. For example, if you were building a berm, and the only point they supplied was the centre line of the berm, but you needed to make the berm a certain width with slopes on either side. Thanks

      Hi Devin, do you have access to the topcon software? Personally I find it easier to design via n4ce, AutoCAD 3D or TBC. The software I use here is a stripped back free version.

    • @rakso5754
      @rakso5754 Год назад

      @@devinsheremeta1513 Hi! It depends on what data you have available and what is the geometry of the berm you are constructing. If it is a straight line, then topcon onboard program allows you to create points and lines between the points. So in this case i would create a second point for centre line and then by selecting both points create the centre line on the screen. After that you can extend the line to make it correct length. Then you can select the line again and add either a cross section to it or a profile and choose to implement it on right / left or both sides of the axis.

    Hi, I wanted to ask, does Leica has an option similar to Lane Guidance on Trimble?

    • @machinecontrol
      @machinecontrol Год назад

      Hi, yes they do. When linework is imported, on the dig screen just hold your finger on the screen. The second option (two horizontal arrows) is to select what line you want to use as a reference. Autosnap will automatically select the line closest to the blade or bucket, alternatively select the line you want. When selected it will appear in Blue

    Hi Alan, Do you have any knowledge on creating model designs on cad before uploading them to the machine? If a 2d dwg with coordinates set simply pop up on the GPS? Thanks

    • @machinecontrol
      @machinecontrol 2 года назад

      Hi Blaine. The system demands a triangulation either as an XML or DXF. You can't do this via standard CAD it would need to be done in Civil3D or similar. I use n4ce to do mine, other programs like LSS or BricsCAD would also work. The triangulation is the same as what people refer to as a model or surface. Leica call it a DTM. Imagine you uploaded your current drawing to a handheld GPS or total station controller, you would only get heights compared to design level if you clicked on a specific point or line. Creating a triangulation draws lines between all the known heights and interpolates values so if you were to upload the triangulation into your handheld GPS or total station you would have a cut/fill value anywhere you walk on the site without selecting a specific point, very very handy. This is what a dozer or excavator needs so it displays cut/fill values anywhere on the job.

    • @machinecontrol
      @machinecontrol 2 года назад

      Once you have a model (triangulated layer) you need to create a folder on a USB and call it Projects. Inside there create a new folder with your job name and put your file in there along with any localisation you may or may not have. If you do then ideally a .LOK file. If you are working off national grid then don't worry about that it should be predefined.

      Basically the free HCE version you have will be looking for you to import a triangluation either as a dxf, DWG or LandXml. If it is a AutoCAD format then prob best to save it as a 2000/2002 version or similar. Import that into HCE then go to export and export under the tab Construction - Machine Job Site Design Exporter, that = surface/model and saves the file as .SVD this is the same as a Topcon tn3 file. You can then export your linework via Machine Site Map Exporter, that saves as .SVL and is the same as a Topcon ln3 file

    • @machinecontrol
      @machinecontrol 2 года назад

      When you have the files they need to be placed in a specific file path. The first folder will be called, Machine Control Data. In that folder create another folder called ALL. in the ALL folder create 2 more folders, the first one should be your project name and the second one should be called GeoData. Place your SVD and SVL in the project folder. Your coordinate system files go in the GeoData folder, usually a .ggf .sgf and .cal file. You may need to reach out to someone to supply you with them, alternatively when inside HCE look for the CSD (coordinate system database) and see if you can export your files from there. I hope this helps
