    Interview questions. Break down the $50k? cost. That’s a huge chunk. How much of it is actual equipment, versus labor, versus…? Decisions regarding yaw dampener? 45 iterations, how does 45 look compared to iteration 1 and 10? When you go with a company like Stein what is included? What do they do versus you do? (I had a frustrating back/forth conversation with another vendor about the definition of plug-n-play maybe I was using the wrong terminology). Do they give you material on how to configure G3x or is that done by them and you just attach wiring harnesses? What are some examples of add-ons (panel PTT? Additional battery backup), maybe some that you opted out of?

    • @N14VE
      @N14VE 2 дня назад

      Vans does not allow deletes on Kits anymore. But firewall forward is an exception to that rule because it is actually not a Kit, it is handled through the parts team. We deleted some Fuel Hoses and Throttle/Engine Control Cables because we are doing some custom things like the Center Console.

    I have beautiful discreet switches and CB's. Very simple, reliable and not expensive. How much information do you need? It is information you don't need. Volts and one or two current ammeters is all you need or already have. Switch is on, it's On. Landing light? if dark I can see it or look at the main ammeter. I have aircraft CB's. Short? It pops out. You still need switches with VP-X. CB's can be replaced with fuse panel under panel "clean". Wiring? Yawn, my RV-7 was easy, bus bar, switch. load, done. VP-X more sub-D's and pins, serial wires and more. Simple? Not really. $2,400 VP-X pro not including switches. OK. My mil-spec witches and klixon fuses (granted bought 10 yrs ago and some surplus) a few hundred.

    The fact that they are hiring a new design engineer at this late hour and messaging that this will be managed by an entirely new team does not bode well for this project. I'm guessing that the prototype's manufacturing cost is way over budget but truly it's anyones guess at this point. All I can say for sure is that if things were going well, they wouldn't be trying to pawn it off on some green engineer.

      Stunning how a 500 horsepower muscle car, with advanced electronics, GPS, and even self-driving cars cost 1/3rd the cost of a simple GA plane. A Cessna 172 new, now costs half a million dollars, 5x the price of a CyberTruck, which has more advanced technology. There's really no explanation for this other than the 'rich' protecting their airspace for themselves.

      None of these companies are trying to do that. There is just a major lack of economy of scale in aviation to allow for the prices to come down, combined with these companies getting sued all of the time, they have to charge what it takes to run a business. Trust me, no one at any of these companies are getting rich. We need to do two things, and only doing BOTH will help reduce the cost to fly: * Get a lot more people flying. 3x to 5x more active pilots. * Innovate on new technology built specifically for General Aviation.

      @@1hornet1 Have you considered finding partners on your 8? As part of my other business @pilotpartner, we believe in Shared Ownership (Flying Clubs/Partnerships) is another great way to keep flying. Very few people really need a plane all to themselves. For an RV-8, I'd look for a 3 or 4 person partnership (including yourself). It would dramatically drop the price for you and you get to keep flying an amazing airplane.

      The RV-14 in the video is the prototype airplane, there will be a lot of subtle changes for the actual production version of it. And every high wing I know of, the Strut is right in front of the door. I don't see it as "In the way"

    It's still is a question on when will you have a full kit, and what price will it be. I would love to build the plane, however too many questions and risk remain. I considering building a Rans S-21 Outback in a tricycle gear, for the simple reason of low build time and a quicker delivery time.

      If your goal is to build quick and get flying Quickly, the RV-15 isn't the right choice right now. But if you are wanting to take your time, enjoy the journey and end up with what I think will be the best Airplane in its Category, the RV-15 is looking really interesting. I suspect in another 3-4 years the RV-15 will be easy to get, available in Quick Build, and will be the one that you will want. I don't want to be in the early wave of RV-15's anyways. I want them to work out the kinks in the build process and plans before we start.

      Thank you... I spent most of my Media Career behind the camera. So I watch me doing these interviews and think to myself, "Boy, what are you doing in front of the camera..."

    Another great interview Ken. It's nice to see the man behind the grips. Sounds like a great guy.

      We met Kevin through ordering out sticks and then saw him at several events at Oshkosh over the last couple years. We instantly became good friends and I love hearing his stories. Aside from having a great product, I like doing business with great people. And he checks both boxes.
