This is not the scene of actual Salt Satyagraha by Gandhi. This is Darshana Salt Satyagraha that took place in May 1930 after Gandhi's arrest for his Salt Satyagraha on 6 April 1930. Darshana Salt Satyagraha was led by Sarojini Naidu and Abbas Tayyabji. The journalist was Webb Miller, an American journalist whose report on the event brought international criticism for the British government policy in India.

Yes my friend,every human being will respond the same way as you have told. But these people were trained by gandhi himself in the strict discipline of satyagrah,which at times takes a lifetime to learn & execute. satyagrah awakens your mind and gives you control over ulterior passions. The film was a milestone. Mahatma Gandhi was revered figure in India till the release of the film (he still is) but he remained an enigma, a father figure, a national icon. Never like a bro or friend like Azad, bhagat singh or Patel or Nehru. But his portrayl in the film brought his real life story, his traumas in the open for everyone. Generations of 80s, 90s learnt about Gandhi more from this film as compared to our entire text books, film division documentary, govt archives put together.
Then you should be proud of them for being able to continue feeling that pain without fighting back. It takes a lot more strength to continue being beaten than to fight back.
