    Why does NSW use garden hose nozzles on their trucks? That is the lamest, most supported grass fire 'defence/attack/flank....... shamozzele i have ever seen' From SA with love.... mostly contempt though!

    How do you stop anything with those twinkie lines

    • @bluenoodles2566
      @bluenoodles2566 Месяц назад

      Grass fires spread rapidly and are typically located within an area that have little water sources for supply, where the presence of firefighting appliances are crucial no matter how large the diameter of hoses they use. This means that you need to ensure that the amount of water you are using does the job to prevent further development of the existing fire, while still ensuring you have enough in case of any other major scenarios may arise. Mop up can be dealt with by the crews following your shift. There’s nothing wrong with using a 19mm/25mm live reel for the sake of easy manoeuvrability for the truck without needing to add additional lengths of hose, whilst considering conservation of water. 3500L of water in these Cat 1s go quicker than you would expect considering the scope of the fire. Notice as well how they are doing 2 things - extinguishing any existing flames, whilst wetting the surrounding vegetation to prevent spread of fire. Grass fires are easy to extinguish however spread quickly, compared to fully developed bushfires which have dead tree cores that can smoulder for days thereafter. Considering this fire ended up as successfully extinguished, I think watching the video and the tactics of the firees answers your question.

      @@bluenoodles2566 😂😂😂 i guess my dumb American real world fire experience. That garden hose they are using aint doing nothing but wasting water. 3500liters is like 850gal? 1"1/2" hose, 3/8 smoothbore tip pumped @60psi gives roughly 70gal a minute depending on length of hose. That like 7X more water a minute then what hes producing. Wind? That weight of water @60psi would probably reach 50ft with extreme penetration at 30feet. Either you have the tools to attack and manage a head fire or you get out its way until you do.

      @@shanestamball1886 I don’t understand the first point you made - I’m not questioning your experience, nor have I called you dumb. I appreciate any form of criticism as that’s the only way firefighting methods can improve, and have improved over the past century to get to the point where we are at today. Apologies as I don’t understand the conversions too well - we use L for volume and kpa for pressure. 1.5-2m flame heights do not require extensive amounts of water to put out. I do not disagree that you would be extinguishing the existing flame and any smouldering remains much quicker and more effectively using a 38mm line, however I do believe it would be overkill and inefficient considering the below points: When you consider the anavailability of water sources (both dynamic and static) to utilise in this area (I understand you would be unfamiliar with Australian/Sydney geography and locational knowledge) and the need to stay constantly on the move, the main way our tankers get refilled is via a relay from other Cat 1s or Cat 6 bulk water carriers. This can take out a substantial amount of time from a crew on the fireground, where with grass fires such as this which are spreading rapidly, that time would best be spent trying to eliminate the primary threat (existing flame, whilst lightly wetting surrounding vegetation to minimise, not prevent, spread) with little focus on the mop up. That 7x more water a minute is going to make us run out of water 7x as fast. The way grass fires are normally fought in Australia is with 1 truck leading a direct attack around the head and flanks, with the truck actively moving around the sides with crews on a hose line (majority of the time being 19mm or 25mm) whether it be on the deck, or as in the video, on foot. They rotate the lead truck as per need to refill. Very rarely do they use a 38mm canvas line on a grass fire. From there, there may be 1 or 2 more trucks behind clearing and existing fire missed, re-ignitions, or smouldering remains with a chance to relight. We do this because, as I’m sure you know, grass fires are one of the fastest moving fires except for crowning fires.. which would just be dealt with via backburning/indirect attack instead. Unfortunately, if we decide to use a 38mm piece of canvas to fight grass fires and are directed to move elsewhere or have another crew take over due to running out of water (SOP for RFS is to always have a quarter tank remaining in case of overrun) we would then have to disconnect the couplings, roll up the hose, stow it on the deck alongside the nozzle, where we could otherwise hold down a button for 10 seconds from the pump then piss off. Not to mention the additional weight of lugging the hose when you’re on the move constantly, where energy conservation over 12 hours of firefighting, as I’m sure you would agree, is crucial for the safety of our firefighters. It’s not the matter of having the tools to conduct a direct attack, it’s more so making an informed decision considering the variables and limitations beyond the equipment we carry, such as water supply, a rapidly moving grass fire, potential directional changes in strong winds, the need for mobility and manoeuvrability, and energy conservation. Out of curiosity, where abouts in America are you based?

    • @denzz8687
      @denzz8687 10 месяцев назад

      The older pump in the video would most likely be a reserve appliance. Im not that versed with the workings of FRNSW but i know as of the last few years they have been acquiring more new fire appliances as well as my local fire service (SAMFS). But one thing to note, Australia unlike our international counterparts like major departments in the US and some services in Europe, Australian fire services dont have the budget to acquire new vehicles on an often basis like some departments in the US for instance. From what i know the fire appliance life span for the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service is around 10 to 15 years, i think it is a similar vehicle life span for Fire Rescue New South Wales, someone can probably correct me on that. i know that Fire Rescue Victoria are still using appliances that are 20+ years old and theyre showing more then their age, they're probably the only metro fire service in Australia using the oldest frontline fire appliances today.

    • @joshuahill6153
      @joshuahill6153 10 месяцев назад

      I live in New Zealand and we are still running appliances on front line stations from the early 90s. We get all our money from our insurance levies so I don't understand how we can't replace them. All our volunteer and rural stations run appliances from the 2010s and actually from 2023+ whilst the appliances doing the most work are still from the 90s. We are slowly replacing them but we don't have enough ladder trucks or stations for our growing populous. Leading to deadly and devastating fires.

    The unfortunate fact is that such protests are controlled opposition. Not all who attend, but at the top with agents in the lower ranks. If they were not they would have got hold of enough of the globalists and done at least an Iceland 2008, but properly and permanently. Such demonstrations are designed to have people think they are doing something whilst taking their time and energy to prevent a real overthrow of the tyrants. Even the French revolution turned out to be bankster controlled to replace the royals with others of their own choosing. Most people really are unthinking. That they think demonstrations work is proof of that. Such events only appear to work when those in control want to allow it to be so - except in very rare instances such as both times the pole tax was imposed here in the UK. Part of the protest was that so many couldn't pay and so many who could wouldn't pay. Also, if the organisers were serious they would advise people to wear helmets and protective clothing.
