Ball on Ramp in Slow Motion
Physics students can use this slow motion video of a ball on a ramp to investigate the energy of the ball-Earth system or simply study the motion of the ball as it travels along the ramp.
The mass of the ball is 0.177 kg. The centers of the two orange indicators on the meterstick are separated by 0.80 m.

12:00 the supposed relationship between F and r goes like that? Huh? That's like the graph of F = r

Wait why wouldn't mgh=1/2mv^2 + fL if initial energy is greater than final energy?

i noticed that too, your correction should be correct lol. gl on the exam if you’re taking it!

the initial energy the block starts out with can be given as mgh, as it moves down the ramp and that energy is converted to kinetic, the ramp does work to the block in the form of friction, so the kinetic energy it has at the end of the ramp is LESS than the gravitational that it started with. This means that the original gravitiational energy can be set equal to the kinetic energy minus the energy that friction takes out. hope that made sense! good luck tomorrow :)

For the EM wave at the beginning of the video, E and B should be swapped

The last equation presented in this video is incorrect due to Kepler's third law "the squares of the orbital periods of the planets are directly proportional to the cubes of the semi-major axes of their orbits"(t^2 ∝ r^3). The equation can be "T^2=4π^2r^3/GM" or "T=2πsqr(r^3/GM)".

I am doing first year physics at age 76,at University, after 25 years teaching secondary Chemistry. Should have really learnt this long ago but I hate to say that we teachers are not always the best teachers. Thanks for the linerization explanation. Now I hope I can find something that you have done on unc ertainties. I am having total concept loss about all the ucertainty calculations, absolute uncertainty, fractional uncertainty and how they link to these linear graphs. I can doo all the error lines with Excel but confused about linking the actual uncertainty of the ruler I use to measure to the final equation for the line of best fit and then using it to determine a value using the slope of the linearized graph.
